Man who raped woman when she was 12 now awarded joint custody of her child

A man who raped a girl when she was 12-years-old has now been awarded joint custody of her child, despite being convicted of rape and sexual assault of another child.

Christopher Mirasalo, 27, from Brown City, Michigan, assaulted the victim nine years ago, getting her pregnant in the process. A judge awarded Mirasalo parenting time and joint legal custody after a paternity test concluded that he was the father of the child.

Since being convicted in 2008, Mirasalo has been convicted of another sexual assault of child, and served four years in prison for it.

The victim, now 21-years-old, is seeking protection under the federal Rape Survival Child Custody Act to try and halt Mirasalo's access, according to The Detroit News.

According to the victim's attorney, Mirasalo forcibly raped and threatened to kill her client in September 2008. He was sentenced to one year in prison for that offense, but only served six and a half months.

Another extreme example of the systemic sexism, misogyny, and any other fancy name you want to give it, that is still so prevalent in this country and in this world. Just like the Harvey Weinstein story, Bill Cosby, Bill Clinton, Donald Trump, etc. The same people who express outrage over discrimination against minorities, pretty much ignore this real and ancient treatment of women, and speak rarely about this issue.

When I read this message board I rarely read anything about women and these issues, in fact, most of the time I see men on this board disparaging women by calling each other "a girl", "Nancy" , etc., as a derogatory term in making fun of a fellow poster. Most of the time when there is a female reporter, announcer, referee, or any other woman daring to make their way into the manly man's world of sports, quite a few on this board proclaim they suck because they are women. When they complain about the horrible male reporters, announcers and referees, which is constant, gender never gets mentioned. There are other reasons women get mentioned around here, like when they have "lied" about getting abused by athletes or when y'all want to drool over them, so it's pretty clear how the majority of men here view women, by their posting, or the deafening lack of posting in many instances.

We used to have a dozen or so regular female posters on this board. These were actually really good posters for the most part. It is now down to one. There is absolutely a reason for this fact. I guess congratulations should be in order, because I'm quite sure that makes a lot of you very happy.

I know I have called several posters "middle school girls." And I can see how that might offend you. I do so because they "gang up" on one poster. I taught for years and believe me, middle school girls are guilty of that.

With that said, middle school girls are way more mature than middle school boys. Middle school boys are typically extremely immature and confused.

What I'm saying is that every group has their issues.

Hey Vers, I'm not a person who gets offended. And I don't get crazy about that kind of stuff because I can find humor in almost anything. I do see the things that I mentioned on this board and in society, and that is why I feel the need to talk about them.

I don't feel in any way like a victim because that is the real downfall of a human being. I will speak out when I see abuses happening, but I will never let anyone make me believe that I am inferior or that I am a victim. I think it is the most detrimental message that society and the government are pushing on certain segments of our country.

Do I think some of us have a much harder road? Absolutely. We all need to fight against any oppression of any people. But should we use this as an excuse and lay down? Hell no. Screw those people. We can't let anybody stop us from what we were made to become. It's all part of the fight and the journey.

I have a successful wife and I am very proud of her accomplishments. She is Hispanic, but she has overcome a lot of stereotypes.

I have a son and a daughter and have always taught them both that they are in control of their destiny.

I recall atomic dawg as being really funny, which made me hot because a woman with a good sense of humour is, well, hot!!

Joking aside Jules, they was a nice post. I admire your honesty there. But I don't recall any male poster taking a female poster's opinion less seriously than that of a man. Not in football talk or anywhere else. Maybe it happened, but in my 14 years on DTers I don't recall that being an issue, I don't recall getting that impression. Then again, I may not be as attuned to that as you might be.

We lost posters because the Browns suck to bad for many people to even stomach to talk about. I don't see many posters insulting women for being women.

I will say one thing though. I see two judges and a criminal that both need to be shot in the head!!! How the hell does a judge give so light a sentence for raping a child and then another judge give parenting rights to a serial child rapist.

At some point citizens need to take things into their own hands. They will riot over a thug that gets beat up by a cop but not when a little girl gets raped and then has to share custody of the child with the father who is a serial child rapist. Why won't they protect the poor girl who got raped. It's a miracle she decided to have the child in the first place but now they want to use that child as a way to force her to relive her trauma by putting that baby in her rapist's hands.

WTF!!! WHEN IS ANYONE GOING TO STEP IN AND PROTECT THESE TWO FROM A SERIAL CHILD MOLESTER?!!!! Someone, anyone in that city needs to put that mad dog DOWN at the very LEAST. Then seriously get both those judges removed from the bench and disbarred. If that fails then bury them too for failing to protect that poor innocent child and bring justice for the weak.

Yes, you would be the poster I would turn to for the definitive opinion on why those women don't post here anymore. I'm sure your in depth conversations with them on why they left and their opinions about the conversations on the board were riveting.

Your discussions with them on their role in the world based on your self-proclaimed vast biblical knowledge makes them long to return, but alas, it is all the sinners here who keep them from retuning......and, oh yeah, the Brown's record.

People make their own choices. I'm not holding anyone back. For that matter I'm pretty liberal on women rights and equality other than abortion. Of course the way some people prefer to use insults instead of dialogue lately I'm sure doesn't send people running at all.

I still contend the main reason their are fewer posters is all the negativity and funk everyone is in from flat out horrible football games. I mean very few people want to log in just to hear people whine and complain or listen to people insulting each other all day. This is not the only Brown's forum with a growing number of inactive posters.

I can only speak for me personally.. I've taken several self-imposed breaks from the boards and it has always been, every single time, out of frustration with the political bickering more than the fact that the Browns suck.

I tried once to limit myself to football and tailgate.. but couldn't do it. I was too weak, politics kept calling me back.. like I just had to see what dumpster fire of hate conversation was going on.. it was like not wanting to look at the car wreck but justifying it by wondering if you knew the person or if you could stop to help.. in reality, I just wanted to see the destruction.. I need help.

LOL, I think we are all the same in that regard =)
