Now, if you would like to have an actual discussion....

you made the statement that republicans do not care for life (with absolutely no evidence or links bolstering that claim)

I refuted, with the FACT that most gun violence in America are from democratic controlled cities. You then (and predictably) tried to change the subject.

Care to elaborate on your FALSE claim?

You aren't going to take away my guns. That's a nonstarter for me and millions of other law-abiding gun enthusiasts.

I believe every responsible person who is so inclined, should own at least two handguns for personal protection.

1. A mid-sized handgun that is big enough to have significant capacity and good shootability, but small enough to be concealed with a reasonable amount of effort (where legal, with a valid permit.) A Glock 19 perhaps, but it's not the specific make or model that's important here so much as the idea. There are a lot of quality options. This could potentially double as a home defense gun instead of, or in addition to, a long gun.

2. A smaller handgun that you can carry with a minimum of fuss, effort, or printing. This will vary even more than the above but I'm thinking of something along the lines of a 5 shot snubbie in .38 or .357, or a single stack pistol in 9x19 or .380 ACP. I'm fond of a particular pocket .380 but that's about as small as I'd go, and others find those platforms to be too small and the caliber insufficient.

It makes for a good discussion. Frankly I'd rather have that discussion than whether or not I should have the right to make that decision in the first place.

A long gun at home-- safely secured-- is a good idea as well. What do you go with: 12 gauge shotgun, AR-15, or something else? Well... I don't think it matters as much as having advanced notice of a break-in in the first place, such as an alarm system, motion lights, or a barking dog.

That’s because the NRA looks like a klan rally.

Is that the blonde hair thing that you used to rant about?

Your boys in DC are setting you up for a big surprise. They're taking away your freedom of speech and press now so when they take away your guns you won't be able to protest or write about it.

I think that's an exaggeration, if not completely made up.

A little background on what inspired this post, as it did come a little out of nowhere:

Before writing this post, I had written a more passionate rebuttal to PDX that I thought better of and then deleted. This post contained a number of events from PDX's native United Kingdom. The one that I had in mind when writing the above post was a recent story where a woman was sexually assaulted 3 times in one night in East London, on 3 separate occasions by 3 different men/groups of men, just a really horrifying story.

It made me think about Rep. Blackburn's recent ad where she mentioned purse carry, and EveDawg's friends' who favor bra carry. Maybe the discussion will prompt others to seriously consider their own situation and whether or not CCW is something they're interested in.

Hey where’s all those guns that you conservatives claimed Obama was taking from you?

Or are you just fear mongering like normal.

I didn't say anything about Obama, did I? What fear mongering are you talking about. I just tried to steer the thread in a direction that many fine people here would enjoy.

PDX openly insinuated that we shouldn't have guns. The forceful objection that nobody is going to take my guns is appropriate.

The government was neve gonna be able to pull it off anyway.

Just because a poster says you shouldn’t have them means what?

And that’s the problem. Your and others irrational fear of having your guns taken away is exactly that: irrational.

If the government was gonna forcefully take guns then that ship sailed way back in 1776. But guys like you always want to make declarative statements that end up ending any common sense regulations because the moment you hear “gun control” you start rambling on like your post directed at PDX.

Wish you defended civil rights as much as you do the 2nd amendment. But I know I’m asking a lot.

This entire forum is full of ranting and arguing. You realize that, right? All I ask is that you apply it equally to both sides.. nobody is accomplishing anything meaningful by posting here.

All I said was civil rights. You do realize that covers a variety of topics not just race, right?

Never mind. Apparently you don’t seeing as if you did you wouldn’t had made such a ridiculous comment.

All this talk about Republicans respecting life vs Dems not due to gun violence in places like Chicago or voting pro choice. Yet, the same folks all seem to get angry when we talk about guns. Guns kill. How is owning a machine designed to kill respecting and valuing life?

Yet again so much passion and vitriol about your right to bear arms. Yet, willing to overlook the 1st amendment when it gets in the way of your weekend entertainment, basic affordable health care, affordable education and civil rights.

Once again, your ignorance is astounding. No one unless you have a special type of license owns a "machine gun". You really are making it harder for yourself to be taken seriously. No one on the left is even agreeing with any post you make, that is how utterly ridiculous they are.

Are you going to tell us for the 4th time how your Sunday entertainment is more important than the national dialogue about race?

Or, how you are the "Pro Life" party but you want to own an arsenal and keep the death penalty?

Your analogies once again miss the mark. I would put money on shaq hitting a free throw before you using a correct analogy. . . .

The difference in the idiotic analogy again is that we respect INNOCENT life. Our "arsenal" is protect us from criminals (mostly democrats btw), and those who have committed heinous crimes is what the death penalty is for. Once again, you have been defeated - just like 1200 democrats that have come before you in the last few elections.

I own guns and have never shot anybody. I hope I never have to shoot somebody.

I believe those who take gun safety seriously and actually think realistic scenarios through are in a position to reduce risk to themselves and loved ones compared to not having a gun. So yeah it kind of is about respecting and valuing life.

It's marketing. If you can scare people into believing silly things like this, gun and ammo sales will fly through the roof.

This gets perpetuated every time a Dem gets elected into The White House. If anyone wishes to bother to look the sales of weapons in the time line bring this out. I guess you can call it fear mongering, but many businesses use the same marketing model.

What he and others fail to realize is that by owning a gun, I respect MY and MY FAMILIES life, but ways of protecting them.

Yes, kicking tens of millions of people off of healthcare has nothing to do with anyone dying.

Oh you can have it, if you can afford it. Otherwise? Nope! Denying people healthcare because they're poor. The GOP way.

No, poor people don't work? Those jobs don't provide healthcare? Try again. I had a health insurance option the day I turned 18 for myself, making 8 bucks an hour.
