My daughter graduated from college on Thursday with her Veterinary Assistant Associate's certification. But...no rest for the wicked as she spent Friday morning sending out resumes/cover letter as well as physically dropping some off around town. She received a call later that day requesting an interview on Saturday and was hired on the spot. This morning, she began her first official job doing what she loves and what she has always wanted to do! This is even more exciting as my daughter has a learning difficulty but, has NEVER used it as an excuse and is the most determined, hardest worker I know. You did it, hon!
VERY PROUD DAD.

My son and a lady friend were eating at Nagoya in Perrysburg last night at a hibachi table. When they went to pay their bill, the waiter said that it was taken care of by someone that shared their table and wished to remain anonymous. In hindsight, he thought the guy looked familiar and then it hit him. It was BGSU's football coach Mike Jinks. In the course of the night's discussion they talked about the summer classes they were taking at BG.

My niece got married on Friday. I'm glad she met a good guy to get hitched to. The reception was at The Acacia in Beachwood, which was a great place to have it. Food was catered by Dino's (I don't know which one). The food was awesome, and I'm a tough critic when need be. It was probably the best food I've had since I moved back to Ohio, 20 plus years ago. Loved it. P.S. I'm glad it didn't rain during the wedding & reception.

Also the alma mater of our beloved club president Scott Bacon.

There hasn't been a 7/11 in the Youngstown area for 40 years.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Great summertime food. With malt vinegar. Some tartar sauce. I usually get extra lemon wedges.

I seem to remember an Arthur Treachers on rides back from Ohio to Connecticut on I-80 in Pennsylvania.
Right off the highway close to the Ohio-Pennsylvania border.

I/we get to go to Findlay on Friday and Saturday to watch my daughter's volleyball team play a total of 12 games.
Home Sat. night, and Sunday evening a birthday party for my last living grandparent. Grandma will be 95.

A year or so ago, I replied to a thread in Everything Else that was created by PDR (Anyone remember or heard from him lately) about his struggle with addiction and how he had recently started using again. In my response, I had commented that I was pretty much a full-blown alcoholic who did my job during the day, but drank until I passed out on the couch on a nightly basis. After my post, I received several direct messages from various members of this board. Some of the messages were of encouragement, advice regarding ways to seek help and links to AA meeting in my immediate area. Today, I would just like to thank all of them for their support (I'm sure they will remember who they are). After a stay in an intensive alcohol detox program, I have been clean, sober and alcohol free for 40 days now. I receive counseling once a week and have been some prescribed some medications to help keep me on the right path. I don't mean to bust up Swish's new puppy thread . I just had something good I wanted to share...

Hey WV,
Thanks for sharing. That certainly counts as good news.
Remember:
About 1/3 of American adults drink regularly. About 1/3 of American adults drink occasionally. About 1/3 of American adults don't drink.
Jump in. The water's just fine.

Well, this is nothing compared to WVDawg54's post, I know.
But, this "tournament" the team my daughter played on this weekend, is actually a dual purpose tournament.
And it's not a "tournament" in the true sense.
It's used as a fund raiser to assist volleyball coaches in Ohio that are experiencing health issues and the financial issues that are associated, AND, obviously, it's a way for teams to get game time action.
64 teams were involved. $200 per team. That's $12,800 in entry fees, of which each dollar is given out to a volleyball coach - this year it was 2 coaches in Ohio - that are experiencing health "issues".
Games consisted of 40 minutes. Get in 2 games, 2 1/2?, 3? whatever.
For the players, it was game experience.
Places played: University of Findlay, Van Buren H.S., North Baltimore H.S., Liberty Benton H.S., and some h.s.'s that Archbold wasn't playing at. (can't name them, as we didn't attend them, obviously).
64 teams!
Some of the gyms were so hot that even as spectators, we melted. (Imagine the players.....) 1 gym was so cold I was shivering and actually put a blanket on to stay warm.)
Kind of a cool idea. Been going on for a few years. Since this is the first year my daughter was a part of it, I wasn't aware of the ramifications, if that's the correct term.
I know it's a small thing, but hey, it IS a thing.
Benefits others, team bonding, and obviously, playing competitively.
64 teams. Did I mention that?
And, 1 girl on the team that ........well...."Mr. Arch, my dad couldn't make it down today (saturday), can I get a ride home with you?" I could give more details, but I won't.
Yup, you can ride with us, no problem.

3 years ago my friends 13 year old daughter was diagnosed with a brain tumor. That summer there was a children's cancer fundraising bike ride event. At the event, there was a board where the riders would write who they are riding for. A woman, unknown to the family(a friend of a friend of a friend), wrote she was riding for their daughter.
Fast forward to yesterday. My friends daughter is cancer free and participating in the event herself. She got to meet this woman that was praying for her 3 years ago.
It's supposed to be hard! If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great!

I got a Rick Vaugh jersey today for 25 dollars! The best part about it? There's no Cheif Wahoo on the jersey!

Good news/bad news.
What a day.
Went to a Hospice care center today to visit my aunt. Doctors say maybe a week. About 5 years ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Had all the ups and downs for 5 years. Just 1 month ago, pretty much most of my extended family on both sides went on vacation. She was there and had a good time.
Fast forward: Bam. Hospice care now.
When my wife and I walked in the room, my uncle was, of course, right beside her. Not crapping you here: She looked up, and the first thing she said was my name, then she got a huge grin on her face. I noticed my uncle look at his daughter (my cousin) and mouth "are you seeing this?" (she also asked my wife "who are you?")
I guess she hasn't smiled in a while. (side note: contrary to my persona on here, I'm fun and can make people not only smile, but laugh, sometimes uncontrollably - believe it or not). Spent some time with her..........not a fun thing.
Wife and I went home, then headed over to watch my 8th grade nephew play soccer. I don't care for soccer. At all. I like my nephew though, and he loves me. Many Sundays, instead of going out to eat with the rest of the family, he asks if he can come over and hang out with me. (I don't go out to eat on Sunday)
And as I sat there, watching him run all around (he did have a goal) for 70 minutes I couldn't help but think: Man - you just left your aunt and all her sickness on what will be her death bed, and here you are watching your nephew that's on the complete other end of the health spectrum.
It's weird what life can hand you in just 1 day.

the important thing is that you're showing support, bro.
so many people end up in hospice or nursing homes and kind of just get...forgotten.

So, one of my games was slowly dying.
I decided to run some ads.
We were averaging about 60 signups per day.
The ads were wildly successful!
Now we are getting 130-160+ signups per day.
Wow! Mind blown!
That's what I'm talking about. So much better....

Son was flying back from Florida this morning and over the planes intercom came "If anyone on board is a doctor or nurse, could you please come forward."
Son went. A person had passed out, I guess.
Son said he was nervous as could be. But, he IS an e.r. nurse.

Son said he was nervous as could be. But, he IS an e.r. nurse. It’s different when outside of a work setting. I was grabbed at a party one night because a friend passed out, non drinking related, in the backyard. When I saw her laying in the ground I had a moment of “what do I do?!” Which is weird because in a nursing facility setting I’ve seen so much worse as an emergency yet had no hesitation. Tell your son he’s not alone in that initial reaction.

Yes, those thoughts went through his head (and mine when I heard about it) He's used to stuff like that - but not on an airplane - like you, in the back yard.

Hate to bring this thread back up. But, as I said somewhere else, can't find it, my son graduated from Ohio University a few months ago with his Masters in Nursing.
He didn't want to take the state test to be a Nurse Practitioner right away. He wanted to study more.
Well, he called me this afternoon. "Dad, I passed. I'm now an FNP-C" (family nurse practitioner - certified)
I knew he'd pass, but I did get just a little emotional on the phone. Proud of him might be the best thing to say.

Dude, that's great news! Congrats!
Speaking of sons, my first is due in -2 days. I told him that he should hold out one additional day and be born on Halloween, but he didn't listen to me. I guess I should get used to that.
