Sounds like the Cards believe in the Ammo way of giving contracts.

That's unreal.... I wonder what he has to do to max it out... wow - 20+ million more than JT got.

I can't see him making nearly that much money. The incentives are probably so high he doesn't stand a chance. It sounds like a lot but when it comes down to it he won't make more than Thomas. Unless of course they have completely lost their minds from the desert heat.

The Arizona Cardinals on Thursday night reached agreement with first-round draft pick Levi Brown, the offensive tackle from Penn State, on a six-year contract, ESPN.com has confirmed.

The contract, negotiated by agent Joel Segal, has a maximum value of $62 million. That is believed to be the most lucrative contract in NFL history for an offensive lineman, although Brown is unlikely to max out the deal by reaching all the incentives.

"Levi is looking forward to joining the Cardinals coaches and players at practice tomorrow," Segal said. "The Cardinals stepped up and made this deal happen."

Brown, 23, was the fifth player chosen overall and the second offensive tackle. The accord leaves six first-round choices unsigned. That group includes the top two picks, quarterback JaMarcus Russell of Oakland and Detroit wide receiver Calvin Johnson.

Segal said his client was en route to Phoenix on Thursday night from his home in Virginia. Brown was scheduled to take a physical Friday before signing his contract and then join the Cardinals at training camp on the Northern Arizona University campus.

"We were a bit frustrated by the amount of time it took and didn't think it had to take this long," Arizona general manager Rod Graves said. "...The proposal that we agreed upon today was not far from where we've been the last week or so."

A four-year starter for the Nittany Lions, with 44 of his 45 starts at left tackle, Brown is expected to challenge veteran Oliver Ross for the starting job at right tackle. That is a key position in the Arizona offense, since quarterback Matt Leinart is left-handed, and the right tackle is responsible for primary pass protection duties.

Brown spent much of the spring working on the right side and, according to the Cardinals' coaches, seemed to make a good transition. Having missed the first five days of camp, he will have to catch up quickly under the tutelage of line coach Russ Grimm to still have a chance to start on opening day.

Although he arrived at Penn State as a defensive tackle, Brown was moved to the offensive side early in his first camp. He is blessed with a big upper frame and his size (6-feet-5 ½, 323 pounds) allowed him to engulf opponents at the college level. Brown has long arms and big hands and, while his 40-time (5.40) is not impressive, he moves his feet very well in pass protection situations.

He will have to work on not setting up so high, and losing leverage, when pass blocking.

In his final two years, according to Penn State coaches, 60 percent of the team's rushing yards came in part as a result of his blocks.

Brown was the second offensive lineman chosen in the draft. Cleveland selected tackle Joe Thomas as the third pick overall. Thomas has signed a five-year deal reportedly worth $42.5 million, with $22-23 million guaranteed.

Well Leinart's a lefty. So are you saying they'll regret spending that much for a LT (in Arizona's case) or do you recognize that Levi Brown is going to be a starting blindside tackle in the NFL.

Either way, seems like a lot for a guy that was overvalued when he was picked anyway........ The NFL has gotta step in and stop the giant cap increases and these NFL rookies from getting these rediculous contracts before they've proven a thing. I don't want to let the NFLPA ruin pro-football by making the cap so high that only large market teams can reach it, nor do I want them to ruin it by continually letting rookies get rediculous contracts.

Levi Brown holds out, yet he's one of those guys who needs to be in camp the most. From what I know, he's physically gifted but has shown less than what he's capable of on the field. Bet they wish they could have gotten our guy.........

Really I could care less what side he's on..he never was a dominate force at PSU...slap him at RT ..it doesn't matter he doesn't have the skills to be a premier OT...he lacks the footwork and laterial moveemnt to be that good.

He might be average in run blocking but he doesn't excel at pass protection..
Doesn't matter if the QB is left/right handed, U want the OT for either type to be solid and a good pass blocker.

Haha, I recognize it. And if you read the lower parts of my post, I agree with ya. Levi Brown is an average OT whom has potential but hasn't shown it. He had no business being picked where he was, nor does he have any business demanding a contract like he did. Guess there just weren't that many 6-5 320 pounds out there whom could move like he did, cause they surely didn't draft him based on what he showed at PSU

Johnson was regarded by some as the best player in the draft after catching 78 passes for 1,202 yards and 15 touchdowns during his All-America junior season at Georgia Tech. He won the Biletnikoff Award, given to the nation's top college receiver.

The Lions, 3-13 last season, in April made Johnson the fourth receiver taken with their first pick in the past five drafts.

"He's going to be a big part of getting us to where we want to go," Lions president Matt Millen said after Johnson was drafted.

The Lions are 24-72 and have missed the playoffs every season since Millen joined the front office in 2001. The soft-spoken Johnson figures to get ample opportunities in offensive coordinator Mike Martz's pass-happy scheme.

On the surface, it looks like Thomas' contract is less than the second best LT in the draft.

I refuse to critisize these guys for holding out...looks like Levi did ok for himself.

Thats why I made my comment..I know ltheir QB is a lefty but they still should want a OT who is exceptional at what he does to be drafted that high and for that much money..
We'll see..well actually they'll see..

Hey, it's a good thing that they let go of Leonard Davis to draft this guy.

Total worth of the contract would include incentives.
He might have a good amount in pro-bowl money/other incentives he might never reach.......the total number isn't always the best way to evaluate a contract.

Actually, it's the opposite. The more money a contract is worth, the more likely you'll get cut faster. The more in guarantees, the more likely the guy won't get cut. Thomas has more guaranteed. Thomas has, likely, a better contract. And I'll bet you just about anything, that five years from now, Thomas will have earned more on his contract than Brown.

Theyre going to be VERYYYY fun to watch this year, and the first test for our CB's in preseason.

Oh good now lets sign Brady to the same deal and get him in camp!
