I voted for "This question is stupid."
Here is what slays me. Hue Jackson has been a coach before. He was .500 at Oakland. He has been an OC for successful teams.
Yet, Sashi Brown is a lawyer who never had experience in personnel matters and we have a baseball guy assisting him. No polls about them "being over their heads," but we have questions about an experienced football man "being over his head."
What's even scarier is the fact that 6 posters actually said Hue is in over his head.
I don't think our fans are all that smart.

I agree with you in principle.
But I think each can be evaluated independently of each other and neither has been very good.
But Sashi and Depo have been worse for sure. Their philosophy does not work in the NFL. And passing on Wentz and Watson were egregious oversights. They've done some good things like letting Pryor walk, signing Collins, extending Bitonio, etc. But those things in totality don't come anyone near erasing the lack of attention to and pure stupidty regarding the QB position.

I respect your view Vers.
I think at this point, the best solution is they somehow have to change Hue's duties on gameday.
Ok, Ok, trying to explain a lot of things and deleting it because it keeps going nowhere.
I know the Gm group is , was a big mistake, 2 years ago, and I'd say they messed everything up.
But at this point, the teams screwed, because they allowed Sashi, and all to changeover 19-25 players in one offseason, (by that meaning making that huge number of changes so quickly, more quickly than a traditional GM which might change about 8-9 players a year)
that at this point, the only way out, is get someone in here which will be able to changeover a large group of players, 19-25, again, if need be. and who's most likely to do that? The current group.
Now, Hue, sure, if you believe he completely has, had, no imput on who's on the team, and it's all them shoving these guys onto him, in spite of his objections.
maybe so, I'll say, I don't know. I don't know how , whomever got chosen to be, or stay on the team to this point. I don't know.
But I got to believe, Hue had some imput, and I got to believe, even Sashi, and depodesta had to consult and listen, on some level to what Hue wanted.
Hue may be the best guy to help these (all positions) for the 6 days of the week they aren't playing, and he may be doing everything.
I could believe, if someone told me Hue is Hamstrung by some of these guys inabilities, like inability to line up under center, or grasp more than a microcosm of the playbook/playcalling language, I could believe that.
.... --- New thought. ( And I don't know anything about football except to watch it for 30+ years.) Every other poster is and was a coach and player, fine.
I say, the Gm's didn't do anything to hurt the team from the Pittsburg game week 1, until the game yesterday week 6.
I'll say, if you sign superman GM today, he's not going to be able to do anything to help the team win between this week and the end of this year.
the coached games, all look the same.
None of the games this year have been close. the 18-21 game wasn't a possible, almost win, there wasn't enough time to come back.
the 17-14 game wasn't an almost win, there wasn't enough time to come back.

I think Hue's in a little over his head....he's never had to coach a team with so little experience and so devoid of talent with no qb, and call plays while doing it. I think the FO are WAAAAAY in over their heads.

Jerking the kids in and out of games.

As Hue says, it's a bottom line business. If you believe that, the answer is obvious.

The whole team is over it's head. Stupid question. Put us out of our misery and relegate the Browns to the CFL until they win a grey cup.

Are there 8 teams in the CFL? What? Do you want 8 more teams that can slowly lose respect for the Orange and Brown over time as they dominate.
Was thinking today, as Ohio State had a good game, 3 games ago, then a devastating loss, then a good game today.
It's just like Hue Jackson's tenure with the Browns, he has a 30 point loss, then a close loss, maybe 6 points, then another devastating loss by 30.
Those close games, (not in doubt but where the Browns score late to pull within 6 or so), I've begun to think of them as the Hue Jackson win.
Still a loss in the loss column.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

I've been in his corner the whole time. It's getting harder and harder to defend him.
I don't think were as talent-starved as most think. I think there are some players on this team.
I just can't stand the cockiness of this team. They act like they've been to the playoffs the last few years. Never mind that they're 1-24 since the beginning of the 2016 season. It's like they don't even care. You would think that you would play harder and more disciplined since the whole sports world is laughing at you. You're the worst run organization at the major-professional level, and that probably includes overseas soccer and other sports leagues.
I don't really care about botched trades, or IRS scandals. I am only talking on-the-field stuff, and it's horrible.
This team constantly shoots itself in the foot. Unforced errors EVERYWHERE. A lot of that is coaching, but a lot of that goes to the players as well.
Hue Jackson was considered as the top guy in the search 2 years ago. Were we all wrong, or is it understood that he'd be a lot better in a different situation. I go back and forth on that. He's 1-24, has botched several games due to dumb mistakes, but for the most part, I think a lot of these wins can be attributed to lack of playmakers, as well as having either a rookie at QB, or some washed up vet (McCown, Griffin, Whitehurst)
I only ask, because I know the media is circling the wagons on firing him, and I totally understand. You can't really argue against 1-24. But do we really have a good replacement? Keep in mind, the on-fire coordinator always seems a lot better when they are coordinating their current team.
Obviously, if someone like Harbaugh wanted to leave Michigan and for whatever reason, came to the Browns, I'd have Hue gone immediately.
I just don't know if replacing him with some OC or DC will really do anything.
I really want Hue to be the guy, but man the constant flow of mental errors, and stupidity makes it really hard.

Have you ever considered that our incredible lack of experience leads to these mistakes? Have you ever considered that when a FO places more importance on measurables than on guys who are football players that you might end up w/some really dumb, inconsistent players.
I hate to be mean...but look at guys like Njoku. Tremendous athletes. Dumb football players. Makes spectacular plays. Allows a guy to blow right by him to kill his qb and then tries to help qb up. LOL Guys who can jump a mile high but can't catch a pass that hits them in the hands.
I think we have a lot of guys w/good Sparq scores but also a lot of dumb football players.
But, it's all Hue's fault.

But, it's all Hue's fault. There's definitely some truth to that. Although, Duke Johnson has proved in the minimal amount of times that he touches the ball, that he's a playmaker. He's special. We can all see it from our couches. Yet, they wait until garbage time to really get him in the game? Look, I wouldn't fire Hue, based on 1. I don't think we're getting any game-changing coach to come to town, and 2. he has yet to be handed anything close to a good quarterback. We can argue all day about whether or not he was behind bringing in Griffin, Kessler, Kizer, etc. Either way, it's really hard to judge how he is with crappy QB's and rookie QB's. And even if he did sign off on any of those QB, that doesn't mean he can't coach, it just means he should probably stick to coaching and not trying to run the team. I think we can all agree we lack playmakers. Aside from the aforementioned Duke Johnson, we offer a steady diet of 3rd and 4th option type guys, and literally almost nothing at the TE position. I agree that Njoku is still very raw, and has bad hands. DeValve wouldn't see the field on a really good team. I'm already sick of Corey Coleman. It's been 2 years and we've heard a lot more negative press about him, than actual good plays he's made on the field. Bad pick. Speaking of that bad pick, I really don't want to bang on Wentz either. It's over with. We had our face rubbed in it. Can we all move on? Man the media loves to bring that up. I get it, christ. I do think Hue's over his head. I don't think that means he should be fired, but he clearly is lost, just like the rest of the team and organization is. Since I'm already ranting, I really wish football fans would stop talking about the draft class after the current one. I see it all the time. We have an upcoming draft, and they're talking about the one AFTER that. Like, hey, you have a whole college football season to play, guy.

Sperg, I think you are a good poster and I generally like your posts.
I like how you presented you argument, but I just disagree w/some of it.
For example, Duke is already an integral part of the offense. I don't think he is an every down back and would soon wear down and injuries would shelve him if he received almost all the reps. I also think that most people on this board severely underrate Crow. I think he is a much more complete back than Duke and that is not a knock on Duke. I think the two of them make a damn good tandem and that if we could ever have a good passing game, those two guys would perform at even higher level. I think that one of the reasons they both had such a good game against Detroit is because we got off to a good start and we were able to work the running game in.
I also disagree on ignoring Wentz. Pit brought up a good point right after the draft. He said the FO would get fired if they were wrong about Wentz. A bunch of the usual FO homers went off on him, but he was right. Maybe not about being fired, but he was right about receiving a ton of criticism. You simply cannot be wrong in your evaluation of a qb staring you in the face when most people had the guy ranked so high. I didn't have him ranked that high, but this is not about me. It's about the decision the FO made to pass on Wentz. It has turned out to be a huge blunder and they should indeed be held accountable for that move.
I also don't think Hue is in over his head. I think his game plan was masterful the other day. Yet, the "fans" ripped him. I also think that the players believe in him and are playing hard for him. It's almost amazing that he has been able to keep the team together despite the tremendous amount of losses. Look at what is going on w/the Giants.
But again, these are only my opinions. I have no problem w/us disagreeing and I really liked how you presented your opinions w/out resorting to personal insults.
I've enjoyed the conversation.
