Ok, it's gone from their main page now, so they took it down because it is broken, or there was a problem with the signing.

Knowing how those people over there run the website nowadays,, I don't doubt for a second that the problem is the site, not the signing...LOL But that's just a guess

Actually 6 to go. Unless you don't want us to sign one of the draft picks.

Good to get the ball rolling today, 8 days to get the rest, we should have at least 3 more by the end of the weekend.

I think Friday afternoon you will see most of them signed up except of course J.T. and B.Q. I feel Wright will be on board in time and be one of our starting corners by game 3. JMHO

I like Pittman....one of those high energy guys who won't back down from anyone.

He was a good player on a good LSU D...I think the guy was a steal in the 7th.

Pittman becomes first draftee to sign
07.18.2007
The Browns signed the first of the their draft picks Wednesday, inking seventh-rounddefensive lineman Chase Pittman to a four-year contract.

Pittman (6-foot-5, 275) was the first of the Browns' two seventh-round picks during the 2007 NFL Draft (213th overall) and the second defensive lineman the team selected. Melila Purcell was taken in the sixth round.

Both Pittman and Purcell will compete for roster spots and playing time at defensive end when training camp opens next week.

Pittman appeared in 25 games at LSU, starting 24, and managing 61 tackles (14.5 for loss) and 8.5 sacks, including 27 tackles (6.5 for loss) and 5.5 sacks as a senior. He played at LSU for two seasons after transferring from Texas.

They'll probably use the format of his deal and get Purcell next. I expect to see most of the second day picks signed through next week. Then we'll have to worry about getting Wright signed literally right before TC. Thomas might hold out a couple days and I think Quinn will be the last or 2nd to last first rounder to sign.

Quinn wanted to be the first pick in the draft, that didn't work out, he expected to be in the top 5, that didn't work out... and just the way things unfolded he fell and it was a very uncomfortable day for him... Now he wants to be the starter, surely he understands that whether or not that happens hinges on him being in camp on time... no camp on day 1, no start.... even if he does show up day 1, it's certainly not a guarantee... but he needs to get his butt into camp and tell his agent that that is his goal.... I don't buy the "It's between the Browns and my agent" line.. it's your freakin' life, if you want to get into camp, make it happen.

I fully expect a holdout, and not just because these guys are greedy or their agents suck or whatever. I'm not sure what the numbers were last year, but quite a few of the first rounders held out at least a little bit. And, we have to remember that the team needs to make fair offers, too.

I'm not overly concerned with the holdouts. I do get concerned when they last too long, and I think that holding out really puts them at a disadvantage, no matter how long it is.

that's because of a couple reasons.. one being that a lot of people hope he'll compete for the starting job, which he has no chance of getting if he's late by even a couple days..

And two, he poses a quandry, he was a projected top 5 pick who fell, and he's a QB... so there is a lot more uncertainty as to the kind of offer the Browns will make and the kind of money he might expect...

I don't buy the couple of days late theory.

It may work out that way because of Romeo.....or Quinns lack of ability to get it down....but a few days isn't going to put a guy so far behind he can't catch up.

that's what I had in mind.. Romeo doesn't seem opposed to biting off his nose to spite his face... Even if Quinn were to "win" the job, in my opinion, it's not going to be by much, so a couple days could make the difference if it's a really close race.

Spoken like a fan.
Put yourself in his shoes. Say you're offered $17M guaranteed. Your agent says a weeks holdout will likely yield $18.5M guaranteed. What would you do?

Obviously, it is VERY important to get to camp on time. But if you feel you are truly being slighted; and you know an injury may be as close as the first play of training camp; then you just might sit...

Maybe I am just a fan... and those are numbers I can't relate to... I'm sorry, that extra 8% increase isn't going to be enough for me to hold out... If I suffer an injury, never play a single play in the NFL, and can't live comfortably for the rest of my life on $17,000,000 then there is something wrong with ME.... Would life really be any better if I had $18,500,000? I think not.

Maybe I'm a throwback, maybe I'm old fashioned, maybe I'm just downright delusional... but foregoing that extra money is worth it if I earn the respect of my teammates, my organization, and my fans...

Ok, stop looking at it as only 8% or whatever... look at it as $1,500,000 for doing nothing for seven days.

If you sit on your butt and do nothing for seven days, we can increase your salary by $1,500,000... OR, you can go to work now and get that much less.

Take your pick.... and "I can't relate to those numbers" isn't an option, because this is a kid right out of college.... that number is as freaking huge to him as it is to us.

But what happens if the agent is wrong? What happens if the team balks at that $1.5M? What happens if one week turns into 2... or 3... or 4?

Refer to my comment above...... So let's not say one week, let's say 4... So great, you've got your extra $1.5M in the bank.. but now you have no chance of starting game 1, or possibly until midseason or beyond... you've lost some of that goodwill you had from the fans from draft day, the organization has a mild distaste about the way you handled things... Then you get your first start and you don't do well, then in game 2 you don't do so well and the talking begins... "For this we paid an extra $1.5M?" and "If he'd have been in camp he would have been more prepared." .... I'm telling you, Browns fans are among the MOST fickle people on the planet, it will not take much for him to go from savior to horses butt... and holding out would start that process.

With all due respect, no it's not. He has been seeing this day coming for 2+ years, he has had time to mentally prepare himself for that kind of money. It would be like me telling you that in 2 years you are going to win a huge lottery in excess of $10M... you would begin to adapt mentally to it.... you'd start to look at homes and cars you could not possibly afford today, you'd talk to accountants and money managers... you'd be much better prepared to deal with those kinds of numbers than somebody who just bought a lottery ticket yesterday and found out they were a multi-millionaire today...

"respect of my teammates"... ... maybe a couple, but I'd guess most are more understanding of a rookie contract issue since they too have been through it. I would think it would be more difficult for a veteran refusing to play out a contract he signed....ala Lance Briggs.

"respect of my organization... "... hmmm, not much of that left in the NFL, or the world for that matter. It is of a symbiotic relationship where the employee uses the organization and the organization uses the employee. We one has had their fill... BOOM, they move on.

"and my fans".... True... unless he is successful. Then the player could have had a prior press conference stating the team sucks, the city sucks, and even Bernie sucks; and if he just helped us win the superbowl; he'd be loved by most. I guess that goes with your "fickled" comment.

I see a good argument for both sides.

I don't know about you guys, but personally, I wouldn't know the difference between $17 million and $18.5 million.

It would be much like on my level as having 17 cents or 19 cents.

It doesn't really matter. I can't tell the difference.
