yea but it's increasingly seeming as if you're on the wrong side of this argument.

These situations are why I usually hate bipartisanship in Washington. It usually just leads to laws that benefit those rich enough to donate significantly to both parties.

In the CFPB’s massive study on arbitrations, the agency examined more than 400 class-action lawsuits. The attorney fees ended up being just 18% of the money recovered on average — a far cry from lawyers-take-all. this parsing words 18% of 10,000 lawsuits is more than 40% of one lawsuit And that is there ATTORNEY FEE, they then take out of the awarded amount supposed "expenses" "fees" "travel" "food" etc. Its not just the 18%

I came to see you like a son and took you under my wing, teaching you of life, showing you the way. Back then you were a radical Lefty, yelling about racism at every turn, talking from a Liberal point of view when it came to politics. Today, you uh, well, oh, gotta go, home invasion!

That is utterly and absolutely incorrect Fair enough. I don't remember where I got the information that I wrote, but if it was wrong, then I was wrong. You seem to have first hand knowledge of the small bank market, why are they struggling? I mean, other than the obvious that small companies have always struggled against large companies.

I think class action lawsuits are good for some things such as in medical drugs/procedures/situations that cause illness, disability, or death. If you are maiming or killing people, then consumers deserve to be paid.
Other situations, its just a money grab by attorneys. Sometimes I get a letter in the mail about a class action, and if I bought that product blah blah. I could care less about that and will never see that money. The last letter I got was about leather cleaner I used on a couch. Who cares!

Sorry, wasn't trying to come of as jerk - I have just heard that from so many as to excuse the regulations and rules that was the main culprit. The biggest factor was Obama Admin regs - Barney Frank and such. Now, don't get me wrong, this isn't an attack on Obama (for once). I think they did a lot of that stuff to try to prevent what happened from doing so again, however like I said before, it added an absurdly cost to small banks, that they just couldn't not afford. Added guidelines means a larger audit department, added regulations means more training for employees, constant oversight, fines slapped for not meeting regs, legal fees to draw up new disclosures to make sure they met the new laws, added cost in supplies to mail out disclosures and postage (which put more an emphasis on online banking systems), etc. etc. It just became too costly. Some will say, well how much does postage cost? A LOT. A small branch is considered to have maybe 2-3-5K customers. say half of them do online (you would be surprised how many still do not) you have to mail each month a statement, marketing (which required added disclosures to go with it) envelopes, printing material, etc. The smaller banks started to fold, and then the larger banks came in, bought them up and took over their clients. I worked in some smaller towns over the years, and it is much a monopoly there now. 1 bank in the entire town. That branch had different rates on products than the same branch of the bank 20 min away in a larger community. So what happened was the opposite effect of what was intended, they wanted to curb the large banks by making so much money off consumers, which technically they did, but what happened was their net profit percentage / customer decreased, but the amount of customers they obtained because of the closures increased astronomically. So if they lost 15% per customer, they added 30% customer base, which increased their overall profits.

Republicans, were the root causes of regulatory pressure on small banks.
Truth be known.....Frank supported a 2013 initiative to exempt smaller banks from the Volcker rule, a piece of Dodd-Frank that limits banks from making certain investments with their own accounts, but said that Texas Rep. Jeb Hensarling prevented it. The beat goes on. The swamp gobbles up the small fry.

Bro if conservatives support this, let them.
I only ask that they stop acting like they actually care about the deficit and national debt.
Cause that’s clearly a lie.

Business 101...
To expand your business it may be necessary to borrow the needed funds in order to pay for expansion. Thus showing a temporary deficit.
Once your larger business begins to produce, you will pay off your deficit and move higher in profitability.
This ain't like Obama borrowing 10 Trillion for nothing but living large and feeling good.

Running the country like a business is exactly why your policies suck.
But I guess it’s gonna take another recession for you to realize that.
But probably not because conservatives and the gop have made it clear you are incapable of learning from past mistakes.

So let me get this straight... If a bank commits widespread fraud, consumers can't sue as a group and instead would have to go individual by individual?
Wowza... That's about as pro-business, anti-consumer as you can get. I mean, if they are worried about frivolous litigation, at least replace it with some kind of ombudsman structure that can derail lawsuits without legitimate cause. But to just yank it? Yeesh.

I took it as you having information that I did not have. Thanks for the well reasoned explanation. Makes a lot of sense. It does appear to be a very common issue with industry regulations.... how do you impose regulations that keep the big companies from running amok without having those same regulations strangle small companies and stifle growth and entrepreneurship..... Oh well, something to think about. Thanks.

That’s because we got people who will go above and beyond to deregulate business while simultaneously wanting to legislate individual rights and morality. In America, god isn’t worshipped. The dollar is.

That's a good question as well, I never understood why it has to be blanket regulations - make regulations based on the size of the bank. let smaller banks opt out of certain things or have lesser regulation.

We never had the country run like a business before, so how do you know they suck? Makes no sense, as you can quantify that. So that is basically a complete opinion that cannot be proven, which makes you suspect in you analysis at least. Do you know why we went into a recession right? Clintons regulations on banks to lend sub prime mortgages was the main root cause.

the fiscal year ended sept 30. we are now under Trump's economy.
i shouldn't have to explain that to someone, but i've been having to explain a lot of common sense things lately.

Once again, the country has never been run like a business, has it? Never, so you cannot say that "those policies suck" as they have never been implemented, now have they? The market however is a direct response to daily factors, and show it LOVES Business policy Winning!

The country was ran like a business under Reagan and he wrecked the economy to the point he had to raise taxes because he knew he screwed up.
Why is it that you seem to be uneducated on American history?
I was intentionally not responding to your post hoping you’d do you your own research. But now I see I have to hold your hand just like Vambo.

Last I checked, RR was an actor, not a business man :0 Why are you so uneducated that that you only believe the filth you hear from Rachael Maddow instead of realizing that we have never had a President that ran the country like business. And FYI, a lot of historians disagree with your assessment on RR. But Maddow told you so!

And trump is a Hollywood realty tv star.
And yet you conservatives voted for him anyway. So it’s hilarious that you conservatives whine about Hollywood elites, yet are the ones with the track record of electing said elites in the WH.
Blatant hypocrisy on your part. Fact.
I don’t even watch Rachael Maddows, but it’s funny that you seem to know a lot about her.
Are you a Closet liberal feminist? If the shoe was on the other foot, someone like Eve would have an absolute field day trolling your ass.
I know my history. I know that “pro growth policies” is a conservative term for trickle down economics.
Trickle down is running the country like a business. And it had been tried and failed. But of course you conservatives are incapable of learning from past mistakes.

And trump is a Hollywood realty tv star. You realize he was like 60 years old before he ever had a TV show right? Well established billionare already, but go ahead, keep spewing smirk talking points you hear form Ms. Maddow......Seriously, do they send you guys a daily email from the Soros foundation or something, "Say this over and over today, tomorrow we will say this" And yet you conservatives voted for him anyway. So it’s hilarious that you conservatives whine about Hollywood elites, yet are the ones with the track record of electing said elites in the WH. You obviously just don't understand the actual meaning of "Hollywood elite" I have no problem with anyone in Hollywood that is rich, famous, or wants to get political. The problem is when those want to run their mouth yet are the most hypocritical on earth...see HW case we have unfolding now Trickle down is running the country like a business. And it had been tried and failed. Based on what, the fact the economy was great when those policies were in effect? Again, historians disagree.

I get what you are saying about running the country like a business to see if that can fix things. My biggest problem with this reasoning other than it won't work is why would you elect a business man that failed at every business he ever had? A business man with 6 bankruptcies, incredible debt, numerous complaints and lawsuits from people he did business with and outright fraud on his record! It's like putting a fox in charge of the hen house, except foxes are smart.
The government is meant to do the things that we as individuals can not do for ourselves like protecting us from other nations/actors that would do us harm, providing infrastructure and systems so that we may prosper, resolving conflicts/aggression among our own people, and in general providing anything we are unable to do for ourselves but that is required for the general welfare of us all.
This does not mean they are responsible for anything that we CAN do ourselves or for our burdens, This does not mean they need to give handouts to the wealthiest among us. This does not mean we should be a nanny state!
Our contract with the government is that we allow them power over us in the form of law making and taxation SO THEY CAN DO THESE THINGS! However, when they fail to deliver, it's incumbent upon the people to change the government. So the ongoing failure is not the GOP or the DEMS, it's US. And this is why you can not run the government like a business. Businesses aren't run to care for people or lose money, or break even. They are run for profit and gain only.

My biggest problem with this reasoning other than it won't work is why would you elect a business man that failed at every business he ever had? A business man with 6 bankruptcies More election time talking points..... First, I will address you stating he failed everything. He turned a million dollar into billions. If gave you a 1000, could you turn it into 100,000? I don't think so, that's the equivalent. I only hope to be a failure at business and be a billionaire. You obviously know nothing about bankruptcies, do you realize warrant buffet has filed companies for bankruptcy? how about mark Cuban? 6 out of thousands PROVE actually that he knows what he is doing. Incredible debt? His net worth is billions. Do you have any ACTUAL cases he was found guilty of that and spent jail time? No, so you are the fraud posting incorrect and false information. numerous complaints and lawsuits Show me a billionaire that doesn't happen too. people like to sue, a lot. all those complaints and lawsuits...yet he still received awards from Jesse Jackson and others. Wasn't until he ran for president he was a bad person.... Because one side has taken that contract and spit on it in the face of Americans by trying to enact more power than ever before, trying to control our thoughts, our feelings, trying to control what we can and cannot do inside and outside of our homes, THAT IS WHY YOU HAVE a Donald Trump.

Why is it that you seem to be uneducated on American history? Reagan raised and lowered taxes many times during his presidency but the net result was a fairly significant reduction.. he also eliminated some deductions, simplified the code, and did a number of other things. I'm fairly certain that without Google, you would have a hard time explaining what he did and why and what the net impact was.. So I won't ask you.. I'm sure you can type Paul Krugman as quickly as anybody else. And it's funny because, for as evil and destructive as Reagan allegedly was.... no democrat since (except Bernie) has really tried to undo it. He took the top rate from 70% down to 28% over a few cuts.. Bush I took it back up to 31%.. since Clinton took office it has bounced between about 35% and 39%... Democrats try to raise it 2% and republicans yell "SOCIALISM".. republicans want to lower it 2% and democrats yell "CUTS FOR THE RICH"... But in the end, it bounces up and down in a fairly narrow window... it's really kind of comical to watch the hysteria.

well you're kind of making the entire point for me.
once it the taxes were lowered by reagan the moment people tried to raise them back, it was a crap storm.
thats a major reason why Bernie didn't win the popular vote in the primaries was him wanting to shoot the tax rates up.
thanks for assisting in making my point? bravo.
and it's also funny how the rates were up pretty high way back in the day, yet the country was perfectly fine.
but you and other conservatives say it all the time with liberals and benefits: once people have them, they don't want to give it up.
same thing is with tax rates, once you conservatives have it, don't want to give it up.

thats a major reason why Bernie didn't win the popular vote in the primaries was him wanting to shoot the tax rates up. that, and the DNC cheated him, but semantics.....:)

but it's funny.
we gotta give the DoD more billions, even though they got trillions missing.
we gotta fight north korea and possibly iran.
we gotta fight the opioid crisis that Trump just declared an emergency.
we gotta reel in spending cause we are 20 trill in debt.
and we gotta build a wall.
i'm trying to figure out how cutting taxes for the wealthy is gonna make any of those situations better.
it seems like conservatives only want to be fiscally conservative when liberals are in power.
other than that, it's always time to make it rain with conservatives/GOP
DC and Columbus needs their yachts built faster.
