Offer Peyton Manning or another football guy the gig, with the "suggestion" that they retain Hue and the coaching staff for at least the following season.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
I would stick with the Plan the Browns are using. I would invest a fortune in hiring the very best Scouts in the NFL. Hell if we can spend all the money we spent on Britt we can pay the NFL's best scouts 1 or 2 million per year.
Go out and get a GM. Tell Sashi he's getting a demotion for being an idiot, but he has the privilege of following this guy around and learning from him.
Don't get rid of Sashi, but scope down his role to his strengths, and allow him participation on the football side. Have him learn from a crusty old football guy.
I still like the plan, but it's painfully obvious that, with where the franchise is right now, we can't be having folks learn on the job. It was an admirable thought, but let's take it as a lesson learn, and make a correction.
DO NOT BLOW THIS UP!!!!! As tony has shown us, all caps and lots of exclamation points mean it's true.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

I fire Sashi Brown and make it clear that insubordination, on any level, will not be tolerated. I hire an interim GM and make it clear that HJ has all say over which players take the field on any given Sunday. I have a sit down with Hue and find out whether this is still in his heart, let him know that if he decides it's not - please be kind enough to let me know before the season ends. In return, I try to assure him that I will do everything in my power to place a GM in position that will keep him as head coach. Let him know what I like and dislike about him and things that must be corrected. Don't sugarcoat, be direct. Insist on an OC next year and let him know that his game management has been average at best. My posture would be far from kissing his a$$ while still pledging my support.
I seek outside help in finding out what is wrong with our ability to evaluate talent and overpay the proper scouts etc to start changing this fact. I make it clear that "analytics" will be a small part of a decision process to be handled by people with solid experience in choosing talent.
Then - I start planning. I'll need a new GM and everything I just said to Hue is based on the quality of candidates I'm talking to. If Hue coming or going is a deciding factor - Hue is gone. I try my best to charm Peyton Manning into the front office because he is one of the few faces that will actually attract other talent regardless of our situation. I'll probably need a new HC so the search starts now.
I get angry and take control of my team - it's my billion dollars. I'm blunt with staff, blunt with players and don't sugar coat anything for the fans or media.
I court the best head coach and pay him double what the top coach in the NFL makes - that will cost me a whole 10 million (more) per year. I'm actually paying nearly that much to past HCs that aren't even working here anymore.
I open my checkbook on every level. FA's, coaching staff, front office. I'm in a place where my franchise is a laughing stock and money might be the only cure. I give long term season ticket holders an extreme discount for the next three years and tell them I will do everything in my power to turn this thing around.
I make it clear to all involved that we have no choice but to go all in on the consensus pick at QB in next years draft and over pay for vet WRs that can actually catch the ball - at least two.
I stay the course and bust my butt to make sure any past mistakes in judgement are never repeated. I never sit on my hands and let my staff know exactly the way I feel about any perceived change of direction. I quit talking the talk and start walking the walk. "Excuses" are a thing of the past for everyone from me down through the water boy.
The only thing I don't like about getting a new GM is that I don't want to replace Hue... and most GMs will want their guy in as HC. I also don't want a Holmgren-Mangini situation where the HC gets kept on for a token year before being canned anyway.
The GM is not here it install a brand new plan. The GM is here to save the execution of the current plan. There's an ocean of different between the two.

Nobody will come worth a darn if forced to go down a path mapped by the former group. If the plan included slamming your junk in the door twice a day do you say, I'm all in"!
Keep everything the same -except give Hue final say on the roster.
Ride it out for 2 more years
I think we're WAAAY beyond that! The geniuses wouldn't stay if Hue is above them and apparently the entire staff isn't happy that they don't have more say and may walk if the FO stay.
This group seems to have NEVER been on the same page.
Let Sashsi and Depodesta run the salary cap, bring in Manning or another football man to be GM and run draft and roster with the coach, and keep Hue for 1 more year if he agrees to having an OC, otherwise hire a new coach ..
John 3:16 Jesus said "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
At this stage, I'm willing to move on from the front office. I want a general manager who is willing to work closely with the current coaching staff, however.

I think if that's something you want, you'd have to promote one of Jackson's allies from the current front office. I don't see anyone coming in from the outside and taking on Hue Jackson.
Stay the course, learn lessons from the good and bad decisions, wait out the draft, get another QB (or pay Cousins) and try again. Firing anyone at this point seems shortsighted. We knew we were going to be bad and we were starting over empty.
Would it matter if we were 2-6? How much better would we think of our FO?
“...Iguodala to Curry, back to Iguodala, up for the layup! Oh! Blocked by James! LeBron James with the rejection!”
Tough because it'll be hard to hire credible people, people worthy of the positions given all that we are and given we (if we fired people) have a proven track record of not even giving people a chance.
Career killer, this environment is.
But, I say we keep Hue and his coaching staff. Tell him he needs an OC, one that can play his style of offense if so desired. He needs to coach on the sidelines.
Sashi, Paul are gone. Their out of here. Berry hopefully hangs around but we find a GM capable of handling the position and selecting talent, taking the word of others who may be more suited for the selection of a specific talent position *cough QB cough* and getting a QB. Capable of not being an idiot.

Hue Jackson is respected in the NFL. How do you know that no one will work w/Hue Jackson as our HC?
I think it is much safer to say that no coach would want to work w/Sashi.
I know a lot of guys on this board are emotionally invested in this FO, but man, the stories that are coming out are unbelievable!
Sashi has to go. Insubordination cannot be tolerated. And if it wasn't insubordination, it was pure incompetence.
I like the ideas of either bringing in Manning or giving one of Hue's supporters the GM job.

I doubt it. Hue is widely respected around the league. He was an in-demand coach who could easily get on half the rosters in the league. There are a lot of talented general managers who would happily work with him.
I understand fans are frustrated with him, that's fine, but the league doesn't feel that way.

Hue Jackson has actively undermined his bosses through the media. Not many good GMs will want to sign up for that (if any).
I've said that I would fire Sashi Brown along with Hue Jackson.
I'd sit back and roll in my millions and millions of dollars. Maybe play a round of golf. After that, I'd drive a really expensive sports car to a nice resauraunt for lunch. I am, after all, a billionaire. I have a life of leisure, and not a care in the world. It's great being me.
Has Hue? Or was it his daughter and one his assistants? Did you read the emails? Sounds like Gregg Williams to me. Sure doesn't sound like Hue.
Mike Silver is Hue Jackson's mouthpiece. Which reporter was Jackson's daughter talking to? Silver. Who did Jackson complain to during his Oakland tenure? Silver. Who had all the access to the Browns and their plans over the past two off-seasons? Silver. This is not that hard to figure out. Silver literally calls Hue Jackson his brother from another mother.
I'd like to keep Gregg Williams and his defence. I don't know how that could reasonably happen when axes start falling, but I would prefer to maintain the defensive continuity, moving forward. Geez it's fun bring a Browns fan, isn't it?
