During the recent calamity in Berea during the Bye, did the Browns forget to bring in a kicker(s) for tryouts or are they going to keep trotting Zane Gonzalez out there?
A decent kicker would fall under the category of helpful. Well this answers that..... Nate Ulrich @NateUlrichABJ Hue Jackson said #Browns have not brought any kickers in to compete with rookie Zane Gonzalez. "He's got to go get it done," the coach said. Link

I guy is a rook....you let it play out this season.
I would have kept Parkey, but it is what it is. No sense in cutting him now.
It's funny how some complained about not developing our own players, and now that we are, they complain about that. LOL

I agree. Phil Dawson bounced around the league for a year before he found a home with us. Matt Bahr was with 2 different teams his first 3 years in the league before he stuck with the Browns. It seems like it takes young kickers a year or 2 to get adjusted to the NFL stadiums.

And correct me if I am wrong but don't they use a different ball in college than the NFL? I think the college ball is rounder and the NFL ball more oblong, in comparison to each other. If that is the case, of course it is going to take a kicker time to adjust. If that isn't the case then forget everything I just said and cut Gonzalez now
Am I perfect? No Am I trying to be a better person? Also no

See KC’s and even Phili’s rookie kickers ...
AND THEY WERE BOTH CUT THIS YEAR ... their respective teams picked them up off the panthers andbungles practice squad ...
They didn’t need no developing .... although dude from Phili has missed some extra points ... hes also kicked more than pretty much anyone else also ... bet he’s attempted double of our boys ...
And like Dawson and Bahr they “bounced” around the league ... the fact u had to reach back that far proves my point .... how many wins did TB cost themselves “developing” dude they cut this year ...
And i’m pretty sure the Harvard Boys could stash Gonzo on the practice squad and wouldn’t have to worry about anyone poaching him while we “develop” him ....
Kickers aren’t QB’s, WR’s ... there not players ... U DON’T HAVE THE LUXURY OF DEVELOPING THEM ...
This DUDE STINKS ...
Between our kicker and Britt ... these guys not being willing to admit mistakes is BECOMING A CONCERN ...
There’s no reason either of them should still be on this team ....

I believe your corrrect ... there also allowed to kick off a flat tee in college i believe ... not positive ... they used to be able to .. not sure if that rule was changed ...
Dudes been kicking an nfl ball off the ground since January ... if he hasn’t figured it out yet ... chances are he never will ...

I said I would have kept Parkey. I think Gonzo has a chance to be a better kicker than Kizer does of being a good QB.

Is Phil available? Back to the mode where he is only offense and it takes nine GGs to win a bloody game.
G has not been there when called on. Got to be better.

Are u saying we should keep Gonzo and cut Kizer ..... I think its way easier to kick fg’s than it is to play qb in th nfl ... At least Gonzo kicks the ball towards the correct goal posts. I kid...I kid. Kickers are flaky...young kickers even more so. He was one of the best kickers in college football last year. You just cannot give up on him yet. If he continues to stink it up the rest of the year then move on. There are only two players on the roster who I am D-O-N-E with right now: Britt & Crow. I'm guessing Britt sticks until Coleman returns. You and I have the same opinion of Crow.

Wow we are now talking about cutting the kicker???
He had a bad game. Kid has talent in that leg. Every kicker gets that run where between the ears have them struggle. He's a rookie. Stick with him this year give him confidence. Its not like OH NO we are going into the playoffs and our kicker is Shaky.
We are going no where. He could end up valuable for a long long time.
Everybody is so CUT happy for the Browns - as if we have to cut people cause of our record. Let the kid KICK! jmho

You just proved my point. Elliott, the Eagles Kicker couldn't beat out Randy Bullock for the job in Cincy. Bullock, who has been on 5 teams in 6 years and like you said Elliott has struggled with kicking Xtra Points this year. Look at Janikowski in Oakland, he struggled his 1st year in Oakland and Adam Vinateri didn't exactly light it up in NE his 1st year either.

Might be nice if he could hit on more than 60% of his kicks ... He’s also missed an extra point ... thats not uncommon today ... in his case its compounded when u look at the # of them hes attempted .... 1 bad game ... ... Them must be some pretty powerful drugs bro ... He needs to be replaced ... PS. No one would claim him so we could put him on the practice squad to “develop” him PSS. ALL nfl kickers have good legs .. what’s between his ears is what counts ...

U mean like Parkey couldn’t beat out Gonzo here .... ... GREAT POINT ... If u “develop” kickers then why has Bullock been on 5 teams in 6 years??????????? ... Thanks for pointing that out .... And if u polled all 32 gm’s the only one that would pick Bullock now MIGHT BE the Cinci gm ... Gonzo is the 7 for 11 ... with two misses under 40 yards .... THATS HORRIBLE ... Jano is a good example ... been waiting for someone to bring him up ... i have no defense for that one ... *L* .... Just curious .... were those guys hitting on 60% of their fg’s in their rookie years or were they in the 70’s or 80% range .... Elliot has struggled on extra points in his last two games .... hes also been pretty good on FG’s .. hes missed less than our boy with more than likely TWICE AS MANY ATTEMPTS ... Keep defending our low 60’s% FG kicker cause hes a rookie ... BRILLIANT ... There’s a place for him to develop ... its called the practice squad ... PS. U may want to tell me theres no one out there worth picking up .. that may swing me over to the lollipop clubs way of thinking ...

Kicker isn't one of our issues.
Phil Dawson went 8/12 his first year.
Our kicker had a much higher percentage of made kicks in college than the KC or Phi rookie kicker. In fact, Butker only had 60 FG attempts in college and missed 17 of them, yes, that's 72% of made kicks. Our kicker made 83% of his kicks at ASU and kicked twice as much.
Kicking in Cleveland is a challenge. If you don't believe so, ask Phil Dawson.
We don't have a kicker issue.

Just look at the Kickers in the league a majority of them bounced around the league the 1st couple of years because they struggled. Heck, even some them whose teams stuck by them struggled their 1st year. Dawson was 8 out of 12 his first year with us after bouncing around the league the year before. Janikowski in his 1st year with Oakland was 22/32 68.8%. Gano in Carolina went 24/35 68.6% his 1st full year in Washington. McManus in Denver went 9/13 69.2% his 1st year.

Maybe our sucky offensive production just doesn't give him enough work....lol I joke but it probably is an actually variable involved in this.
One bad game meaning the multiple misses...did he miss 2 FG and an extra point...its most of his negative stats isn't it.
Also if I recollect he has not been responsible for one loss that I can remember. But I can recollect a pressure kick where he kept us in a game.
Just the kicker thing is important if we are in playoff contention so I see it as a none factor right now and don't see us losing games over it to make a move. Unless the kid lost all confidence and I wouldn't know that unless I'm a coach at all the practices.
Parkay...didn't he miss an important FG this weekend???

What will Haslam do?
What change could Haslam make that would allow him keep the present operation together with minimal changes?
Option #1...Add someone like Peyton Manning to oversee the operation?
That would be the safest credible move that Haslam could make that would allow everyone to remain and see the plan through.
It would not have to Manning but it would have to be someone who is respected and qualified to oversee the entire plan.
Option #2...Haslam could hire a real GM to head the operation and oversee the plan.
Option #3...blow it up and bring in all new people and/or coaches.
Option #4...do nothing.
What will Haslam do?

Not bad, mac, but answer me this: What qualifications (in your mind) would these people need to possess?

Not bad, mac, but answer me this: What qualifications (in your mind) would these people need to possess? That's what I don't understand about the people who keep talking about Peyton. I mean it would get the media love and it would certainly buy us a grace period in the national spotlight. But he has no more experience running an NFL team or evaluating talent than the people we have in charge now. I know, I know. He's been successful at everything he's done so far. So had Haslam until he bought the Browns. He was a great QB. I admire the hell out of the guy. I just don't see these great qualifications that make him right for the job.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
