I honestly don't believe these races are as indicative of the change some people perceive it to be. Is it a step in a different direction? Maybe. I just think the Dems are making a lot more out of this than it really is.

It matters that the people who tried to run on Trump's platform of racism were soundly rejected. Had some of them won, the GOP may have doubled down. Let's take Virginia for example. A large majority of Virginia voters are in favor of leaving confederate monuments in place. It simply wasn't the most important issue to them. So while you may be right on the result of the vote, I think you missed the motivation of why they voted that way.

After catching heat for saying the state's drug problem was due to "guys by the name D-Money, Smoothie, Shifty. These type of guys that come from Connecticut and New York. They come up here, they sell their heroin, then they go back home. Incidentally, half the time they impregnate a young, white girl before they leave", he made a claim that he had a three-ring binder in his office of every drug convict in the state and that it was "90% blacks and Hispanics".
Asked to see the binder, he melted down, yelling at a reporter "Let me tell you something: Black people come up the highway and they kill Mainers. You ought to look into that!"
A reporter filed a FOIA for the binder, and it turned out the binder, did, in fact exist. It was overwhelmingly white. 60%.
