https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-making-u-weaker-says-122220333.htmlPresident Donald Trump promised to make the U.S. stronger on the world stage, but under his administration top diplomats are leaving at a “dizzying speed” and making America vulnerable, says the president of the American Foreign Service Association. “Were the U.S. military to face such a decapitation of its leadership ranks, I would expect a public outcry,” wrote Ambassador Barbara Stephenson, president of the Foreign Service officers’ union in a preview of her December column in The Foreign Service Journal . The Department of State has lost 60 percent of its career ambassadors since January when Trump was inaugurated, Stephenson points out. “These numbers are hard to square with the stated agenda of making State and the Foreign Service stronger,” she said, detailing just how many people have left the foreign service. “The rapid loss of so many senior officers has a serious, immediate, and tangible effect on the capacity of the United States to shape world events.” That means countries like China, Russia, and others will fill the vacuum, she said. Stephenson’s warning arrives as Trump touched down in China during his trip to Asia seeking help to curb North Korea’s nuclear weapons program. On Tuesday Trump left Japan without a concrete deal to fix what he called an unfair trade imbalance with the country. When Trump was asked last Thursday by Fox News host Laura Ingraham about the impact of more than 100 senior State Department positions that remain unfilled, he said the positions weren’t needed. Don't miss: This Tiny Animal Could be One Solution to Cleaning Up City Rivers “The one that matters is me,” Trump said. “I'm the only one that matters because when it comes to it, that's what the policy is going to be. You've seen that, you've seen it strongly.” Read more: Trump is endangering U.S. national security with vacant positions, cuts at State Department: career diplomats, experts “We don't need all the people that they want,” Trump said. “Don't forget, I'm a businessperson and I tell my people: 'Where you don't need to fill slots don't fill them.'” Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has even struggled against the White House to fill senior posts under him. He is working to implement Trump’s plan to reorganize the State Department and slash $10.1 billion from its budget, a move that could put 2,300 U.S. diplomats and civil servants out of work. Most popular: Hundreds of Dead Sea Turtles Discovered Floating in Pacific in Mystery Mass Death In the absence of a strong foreign service, Trump has worked to drive foreign policy with Iran and North Korea on his own. This has heightened nuclear tensions with Pyongyang and alienated American allies who back the nuclear deal with Iran that prevents it from securing a nuclear weapon. Diplomats, experts, and America’s allies have been critical of the president’s approach, saying it makes the world a more dangerous place. Trump insists that before him the “entire World WAS laughing and taking advantage of us.” Stephenson called trends at the State Department “disturbing” and that a hiring freeze is driving young people away from the foreign service and into other professions. Less than half of the people who took the test to become a foreign service officer last year, applied to take it this year. “Nine in ten Americans favor a strong global leadership role for our great country,” Stephenson said. “Where then, does the impetus come from to weaken the American Foreign Service? Where is the mandate to pull the Foreign Service team from the field and forfeit the game to our adversaries?” _________ Thanks, conservatives. Everything you claimed Obama did, Trump is ACTUALLY doing, like making us weak on the world stage.

How many diplomats do you need? "There are more U.S. diplomats posted in New Delhi than there are Indian diplomats in the entire world" link I imagine senior diplomats are also paid the most. The budget's not going to balance itself. It's a nice sensationalized headline, but what does it really mean?

I don't doubt that there is some bloat in the DoS, but this quote reads as if Trump doesn't exactly know what those people do all day.

diplomacy is crucial in peace and security, and for the US, who is *supposed* to be the leading in peace and security around the world, then a strong state department is an absolute must. maintaining alliances and relations around the world is absolutely necessary, and a weakened state department signals to our allies that we are not completely committed toward a more peaceful world.
we are the number one country in the world. of course our diplomats will outnumber a country like india.

Trump told the country how he wanted to end these endless wars. intentionally weakening the state department is the direct opposite of that message. diplomacy is VITAL!

Meh, more Obama appointees losing their jobs. Bye Bye.
I did like the part about "If the Military faced such decapitation", as Obama fired Generals and Admirals at an alarming pace.
Can't wait to hear the tears next year when President Trump eliminates 50 percent of the Executive Branch.

Nope, although I was working 80-90 hour weeks for most of the Obama admin. I didn't think the President had the authority to court martial/discharge a member of the armed forces, hence my asking for an article talking about this purge you mention

I put in "obama purge" in the obama hate site known as fox news, and had zero results.

You really do just pull up the first result from a Google search and post it without reading it, don't you? From, the article: Yet what has happened to our officer corps since President Obama took office is viewed in many quarters as unprecedented, baffling and even harmful to our national security posture. We have commented on some of the higher profile cases, such as Gen. Carter Ham. He was relieved as head of U.S. Africa Command after only a year and a half because he disagreed with orders not to mount a rescue mission in response to the Sept. 11, 2012, attack in Benghazi.
This is a complete lie. He finished his 24-month tour of duty, and retired the following year after its completion. Rear Adm. Chuck Gaouette, commander of the John C. Stennis Carrier Strike Group, was relieved in October 2012 for disobeying orders when he sent his group on Sept. 11 to "assist and provide intelligence for" military forces ordered into action by Gen. Ham. Another complete lie. Gaouette was formally censured by the Navy. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/27/us/rear-admiral-charles-m-gaouette-is-disciplined-by-navy.html Other removals include the sacking of two nuclear commanders in a single week — Maj. Gen. Michael Carey, head of the 20th Air Force, responsible for the three wings that maintain control of the 450 intercontinental ballistic missiles Complete lie. Disciplined for drunk and disorderly behavior while on duty, later retired. and Vice Adm. Tim Giardina, the No. 2 officer at U.S. Strategic Command. He was caught counterfeiting casino poker chips. Demoted by the Navy, and later retired. I'll stop there. This entire article is completely made up.

i found this politifact article with some of the claims you conservatives have made about this: http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/...ls-retired-ear/way to change the topic, by the way. regardless of your chain email nonsense, the FACT is trump is weakening our diplomatic efforts around the world. Trump is making us weak.

You are quite snarky for a guy who is completely wrong on a constant, daily basis. This article is also complete nonsense. The latest two to fall from grace, Navy Vice Adm. Ted “Twig” Branch, director of naval intelligence, and Rear Adm. Bruce Loveless, director of intelligence operations, were stripped of their security clearances last week, effectively ending their careers. Complete lie. Branch and Loveless both had their clearance temporarily suspended while they were investigated for corruption. Once cleared, they maintained their positions and later retired.

Well I found some testimonials...
Consider the following quotes from some very highly decorated retired officers: -Retired Army Major General Paul Vallely:The White House protects their own. That's why they stalled on the investigation into fast and furious, Benghazi and Obamacare. He's intentionally weakening and gutting our military, Pentagon and reducing us as a superpower, and anyone in the ranks who disagrees or speaks out is being purged. -Retired Army Major General Patrick Brady: There is no doubt he (Obama) is intent on emasculating the military and will fire anyone who disagrees with him.
-Retired Army Lt. General William G. Jerry Boykin:Over the past three years, it is unprecedented for the number of four-star generals to be relieved of duty, and not necessarily relieved for cause. -Retired Navy Captain Joseph John:I believe there are more than 137 officers who have been forced out or given bad evaluation reports so they will never make Flag (officer), because of their failure to comply to certain views. A Pentagon official who asked to remain nameless because they were not authorized to speak on the matter said even young officers, down through the ranks have been told not to talk about Obama or the politics of the White House. They are purging everyone and if you want to keep your job just keep your mouth shut. Now this trend appears to be accelerating.

hmmmm Major General Michael Carey – As commander of the US land-based nuclear missile program, Carey was responsible for three units of ICBMs. He was relieved in October 2013 for his conduct on a July trip to Moscow, where he went on what news reports called a “drunken bender,” fraternized with local women and made inappropriate comments disparaging the Russian military. As a result, he was reassigned and made Special Assistant to the Commander of Air Force Space Command in Colorado. Vice Admiral Tim Giardina – Giardina served as chief of staff of the US Pacific Fleet and was the number 2 officer of US Strategic Command (StratCom) until being relieved of duty in September 2013, following an investigation into his use of fake casino chips in a poker game. This is a class D felony in Iowa, where StratCom is located. He was already due to leave StratCom, and his bio currently lists him as “assigned to the staff of the vice chief of naval operations.” Lieutenant General David Holmes Huntoon, Jr. – Huntoon was serving as the Superintendent of the United States Military Academy in West Point until June 2013, when a report of an Inspector General’s office investigation was released, which found that he had misused his position and forced subordinate officers to perform personal tasks. Huntoon was given a letter of reprimand, allowed to resign from his post and took his mandatory retirement the next month. Major General C.M.M. Gurganus – This was one of two generals asked to retire early by the Commandant of the Marine Corps after a September 2012 Taliban surprise attack on a Marine airbase. Gurganus was found to have “not taken adequate force protection measures” at Camp Bastion, which led to the death of two Marines and the destruction of six Harrier jet fighters. Major General Gregg A. Sturdevant – Sturdevant was the other general asked to retire in the wake of the Camp Bastion attack. Brigadier General Bryan Roberts – The former commanding officer of Fort Jackson, the largest training post in the US Army, Roberts was suspended in May 2013 after an investigation into adultery and a physical altercation with a woman described as his mistress. Adultery in the military is punishable as an action that can bring discredit upon the armed forces. Major General Ralph Baker – Baker was removed from his post as commanding officer of Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, as well as fined, after an administrative hearing into alcohol abuse and sexual misconduct charges in April 2013. Rear Admiral Charles Gaouette – Gaouette held the position of commanding officer of Carrier Strike Group Three until a reprimand from the US Navy led to his removal. He was found to have used profanity in public and made several racially insensitive remarks. The origin of the complaint might have come from the captain of the aircraft carrier assigned to the Strike Group, who alleged Gaouette had humiliated him in public. General Carter F. Ham – The commander of US Command Africa, Ham retired in the wake of the September 2011 attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya. Though the attack itself generated enormous controversy and blame on the Obama administration, Ham himself was never reprimanded and served the entirety of his two-year posting in Africa, retiring as scheduled at age 62, after a 40 year career. Obviously, the context of these nine “firings” puts the entire validity of the list into question. Many were removed for misconduct or violation of military protocol. Several were near or at the Army’s mandatory retirement age of 62. None were simply sacked willy nilly by President Obama. More than a conspiracy or purge, it speaks to a renewed lack of tolerance for behavior among senior officers that brings disgrace or embarrassment on the military as a whole. https://skeptoid.com/blog/2014/03/24/president-obama-purge-military/i'm skeptical of the list as well. when you have context of all 197 firings, let me know.

It looks to me like many were given a choice between retiring with their pensions or facing trumped up charges, risking losing everything.
I do remember this stuff being discussed on here years back.

I've already debunked several of these that are on this list in this very thread. At least 9 names on this list were never fired, and actually retired.
I can't tell if 40 is just being duped by lies or actively lying himself, but basically the argument he's trying to make is that anyone censured, punished, demoted or retired under the Obama administration were somehow "fired" by Obama. For example, if an officer was tried for rape and found guilty by military courts, they were "fired" by Obama.
It's a pretty obvious lie anyone with half a brain and a 5 minute Google search can determine is complete nonsense.

Well, I guess I end up with what you spew in one hand and the Quotes and comments by a bunch of highly decorated Military Officers in the other hand.
Guess which hand I am currently washing clean.

Guess which hand I am currently washing clean. Actually, the majority of the officers in the articles you posted admitted their guilt.

Go back to sleep now, watch some CNN and remain ignorant to the real world around you. When you post things like this directly after falling flat on your face, having your obvious lies refuted by an avalanche of evidence, do you just plow through it, or is there ever a tinge of shame and embarrassment?

Yea, like I made it up. Educate yourself then open your eyes to the truth. And then tell the Washington Newspapers they made it up too.

That fact that you were duped into believing obvious lies does not negate the fact that they're obvious lies. "President Obama holds a military coup" is clearly something that no one with half a brain should believe. The first immediate thought should be "yeah, this is probably nonsense".

You work in Media and I can tell from your posts exactly how Media twists and deflects on everything. You prove that fact.
The King of Fake News!
What is that line you like to use? Oh yea...
I am laughing at you.

The King of Fake News! This is coming from a man who just claimed "Obama fired Generals and Admirals at an alarming pace", citing it with an article describing a military coup, and listed a group of men, none of whom were fired by Obama. Upon being pointed out that this was a laughaby untrue article filled with lies, you posted another article listing men, none of whom were fired by Obama. After being pointed out that this second article was nothing but blatant lies, you proceeded to copy and paste a list of officers fired or demoted under Obama, a list that included 12 names that had just been pointed out to you as not having been fired. You then claimed you took the word of military officers over the hard evidence in front of you (despite most of these men admitting guilt to various crimes that led to suspension or demotion). Don't try to project your own gullibility to get duped by obviously made up lies onto others.

Our enemies would be wise to pounce while we discuss.

Our enemies would be wise to pounce while we discuss. You think a good time for an enemy to pounce is while unfettered decisions on nuclear weapons falls to a sociopath with a child-like understanding of the world and a disposition so weak that he explodes in anger if he's called a mean name?

No, I think an adversary who knows our need to launch has to go from the Military to the President to the Senate and back to the President before the button can be pushed will have the advantage of a first strike on our Capital, taking them all out in minutes.
Now if they want to say what the Military and the President should consider before they launch, that still leaves it so we can launch on a moments notice. That is deterrence. That is what its all about. Keep the other guy from having an advantage in a first strike.

Name one adversary willing or capable of nuking D.C. Now if they want to say what the Military and the President should consider before they launch, that still leaves it so we can launch on a moments notice. That is deterrence. That is what its all about. Keep the other guy from having an advantage in a first strike. Deterrence isn't lost by removing sole decision making power from a mentally ill man who can't comprehend the ramifications of them.
