Decent article, but Pluto left out the part about Pryor reaching out to Cleveland to match Washington's one year deal.
That's pretty big, in my opinion. It should not be ignored. Was it reported by a reliable trusted reporter and source?

I'm not surprised I've read some posts where people are trying to spin this into an inept front office thread. Pretty laughable.
In my comment in the what the front should do thread, I almost commented about either trading for Pryor or re-signing him in the offseason. However, I thought people would lol and turn it into saying the front office screwed up. Which they didn't. Unbelievable.

While Pryor has not been good for Washington, this trade attempt makes a lot of sense for us. Pryor and Jackson know each other very well, they should have never been separated. On top of that our wide receivers have been so bad that bring Pryor back would hopefully allow Kizer to develop a bit more.

I agree and I think it was a good move by the FO [if the report is true] to try and trade for Pryor. They made a mistake. It happens. They tried to fix that mistake. I applaud that.

It wasn't our fault we lost TP in the first place. They made more than a fair deal to him and he didn't want it or thought he could do better. This ones not on our FO. home...when you consider the fact that Pryor gave the Browns a chance to match the offer the Redskins made and Sashi wasn't interested..and now we find out the Browns attempted to get Pryor back...after they paid Britt $17 mill guaranteed, the Browns would have been ahead if they had just locked Pryor up to a 3 or 4 yr deal.
The Browns made a mess of the WR deal in an attempt to save a few bucks. Putting on my hip waders and walking back into this crap yet again. Britt signed a 4 year 32.5 million contract with 10.5 million guaranteed. He was NOT guaranteed 17 million He does not collect the other 6.5 million you are talking about unless he is still with the Browns on On the third day of the 2018 league year. TP Signed a ONE year contract with Washington with SIX million gauranteed He is not on pace to collect a single dime of his 2 million in incentives. There are three separate incentives that Pryor can reach, each of which has different levels, with a maximum incentive of $2 million. Receptions: This is the most attainable incentive, worth up to $1 million. He will get $250,000 for 60 catches, $600,000 for 70 catches, and the full $1 million for 80 catches or more. So, if it’s late in the season or if he’s dealing with a nagging injury, you can understand why he’d be motivated to still gut things out. Receiving Yards: He will get $150,000 for 750 yards, $300,000 for 1,000 yards, and $500,000 for 1,250 yards. Touchdowns: He will get $100,000 for 6 TDs, $300,000 for 8 TDs, and $500,000 for 10 TDs. To summarize, in order to get the full $2 million in incentives, he needs to have an 80-catch, 1,250-yard, 10-touchdown season. If he does that, he’s definitely getting paid next year too. Clevelands final offer to TP was for 34 million over 4 years with 17 million gauranteed. So it's not the Browns fault TP left it is his own, and I called him stupid when he did so, and he looks even dumber today. The Browns did the right thing with Pryor so get over it bro.

And, I still think TP could come back here ... there's a chance at least (if Hue is back too)
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Kenny Britt signed a 4 year, $32,500,000 contract with the Cleveland Browns, including a $6,500,000 signing bonus, $17,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $8,125,000. In 2017, Britt will earn a base salary of $4,000,000 and a signing bonus of $6,500,000, while carrying a cap hit of $5,625,000 and a dead cap value of $10,500,000. link

The full, year-by-year contract details for Cleveland Browns WR Kenny Britt are now available, via multiple sources. We will take a look at the structure of his contract, such as his base salary, guaranteed money, and cap hits. Britt’s deal is considered to be 4 years for $32.5 million with $10.5 million fully guaranteed. WR Kenny Britt’s Contract, Cap Hits Per Year Year Base Salary Signing Bonus Roster Bonus Workout Bonus Total Cap Hit 2017 $4,000,000 $1,625,000 $0 $0 $5,625,000 2018 $6,500,000 $1,625,000 $0 $0 $8,125,000 2019 $7,750,000 $1,625,000 $0 $0 $9,375,000 2020 $7,750,000 $1,625,000 $0 $0 $9,375,000 Total $26,000,000 $6,500,000 $0 $0 $32,500,000 Britt has $10.5 million fully guaranteed at signing. That includes his $4 million base salary in 2017 and his $6.5 million signing bonus (pro-rated to $1.625 million per year against the cap). On the third day of the 2018 league year, Britt’s $6.5 million base salary will become fully guaranteed. If Britt is considered a bust and they want to cut him early next offseason, they’d only carry $4.875 million in dead cap space. It gets even cheaper to cut him in 2019 or 2020, when his higher base salary is not guaranteed. Overall, this is a semi-big commitment to Britt, but they’re really only tied to him for a year or two. If he’s productive, the team can keep him around and will be willing to pay the price. If he’s suffered a decline, or if there is a better wide receiver on the market who they’d rather pay, they can cut ties with Britt and allocate that money to the new receiver. https://www.dawgsbynature.com/2017/3/14/...with-the-brownshttps://overthecap.com/player/kenny-britt/1723/

The Browns did the right thing with Pryor so get over it bro. GM...The Browns did the right thing?
Do QBs like big targets? Obviously you are in love with being WINLESS!
I say Sashi Brown, with his lack of football experience screwed up by letting Pryor leave.
In Sashi's Harvard educated brain and his understanding of analytics...a wr with 1002 yds is just as good as a wr who had 1007 yds for your team (the Browns). Simply put, Sashi's brain calculated, there was no difference between Pryor and Britt.
Sashi failed to recognize that Pryor's talent and play fit into Hue's offensive scheme quit well and Pryor produced when he played in Hue's offense.
A target like Pryor can be a valuable asset for a young Browns QB, such as Kizer, Kessler or Hogan...but Sashi's Harvard educated brain might not think about the value of a wr in such "football" terms.

I actually agree with that. I think there was a vested interest in trying to get Pryor to Washington. Your WR gets a one-year prove it deal with Washington or Cleveland, you're going to want him to go to Washington. I wouldn't be surprised if Rosenhaus was doing something shady.

Ain't buying it, mac... 32...you believe the Browns are a better team with Kenny Britt? Do you believe the Redskins are a better team with Pryor? Would the Redskins have been better off to keep Garcon over Pryor? Do you think Pryor has a chance at EVER making what the Browns offered him last year? The agenda spin between you and Vers is laughably transparent. Of all the legit things to be critical about from the FO, you guys try and spin the FO into being the bad guys for offering two specific players BETTER deals than what they signed-for elsewhere. The FO NAILED the fair market value - or even over-estimated it - and somehow the FO is at fault.

I think the signing of Britt most certainly ended talks w/Pryor. I think that is why they didn't even contact him about matching Washington's offer.
I think both Pryor and the Browns made the wrong choices. I think both parties wish they would have worked things out because both are worse off w/out each other.

The Browns front office, when faced with a tough negotiation with one of our own players, seems to lack the ability to close a deal.
Being the HC in bastard like set up such as the Browns are operating, wher most of the power over football decisions is centered around an inexperienced GM who lacks the education and background to even be a GM in the NFL.
This is Haslam's setup..he is ultimately responsible and the teams record over the last two years is on him and those responsible for providing the talent for the Head Coach.

TP was one of the best players for us last year and he really wanted to win. Tough loss!! Agreed. I don't think it was ever stated what the original offer was, but I do recall seeing that it was apparently a multi-year offer in the $7M per-year range. Pryor, apparently, thought he was more in the $11M per year range. 5 years, $55M was floated around an awful lot, and TP just isn't worth it. If the Browns were offering more around what they ultimately gave to Britt, that's the way to go. And I think the Browns would have legitimately gave him the 4 years, $32M deal. Britt's deal has language that ultimately makes it just a 2 year, $17M deal. With Pryor, I doubt we would have included that. I can understand pushing him towards a "Take a prove-it deal with Washington and you'll get a massive pay day next year" but it was erroneous, if we're right, to think that. I feel for Pryor. I think he put his faith in someone who cares more about money than he does about what is best for the athlete.

This is Haslam's setup..he is ultimately responsible and the teams record over the last two years is on him and those responsible for providing the talent for the Head Coach. I completely disagree. I think we've done an excellent job in determining the value of our players and have stuck to their intended value. I understand the frustration in seeing players leave, but if you overpay anyone, you have to overpay everyone, and you'll put yourself in salary cap hell if you do that. We're a bad team, we frankly have to overpay, but that doesn't mean we should. To each his own, however. I'm pretty much in the Bill Belichick thought of 'You want that much? Let me help you pack." I think Hue would align with that. As desperate as we are to retain talent, we can't disadvantage ourselves by paying rates that aren't conducive to assembling a team long-term. The short-term rewards mean nothing when you're in hell in just a few years.

After the season, however, he didn't bite on the Browns' offer of about $8 million a year for four years -- about the same money they ended up giving to free agent Kenny Britt.
Pryor, represented by Drew Rosenhaus, wanted much more that, somewhere between $10 million and $14 million a year, according to sources, and was hoping the offer would increase. I wasn't aware that he wanted that much. A little surprising to me. I knew we supposedly offered 8 mill a year for 4 years. I thought that was fair. He takes a one year show me deal, and he's not showing them. Maybe we can get him back next season. Odd that washington wanted to keep him. Maybe we didn't offer enough?

1) I don't believe everything I hear. Although this makes sense.
2) Those trying to turn this into a hate thread for the front office are pretty much wrong.
3) We lost Coleman to injury and Britt hasn't panned out as expected. Pryor would know the system in place here. Chances are if we brought him back for the remainder of the season, he might stick around longer term.
4) I'm still not sold on Pryor as a WR, and I wouldn't have paid him more than we offered, even in hindsight. He does work his tail off and wants to be the best and help the Browns, I think that goes a long way.
5) The "can't get the tough deals done" is a silly argument that can't even be proved or defended, so I don't understand why I keep reading posts about it...

I don't have a source - but I remember the Browns offer being 4 years $32 million - right around there. I remember reading Pryor wanted in the $12-$14 million range which was why there wasn't any negotiation on the original multi year offer. Thinking we should have paid the guy whatever he wants just because Britt has been a disaster is flat wrong. For a team trying to build for the long term - a one year contract with a WR that wanted $12 million BEFORE his prove it year would be flat wrong. How quickly some forget Pryor's outbursts and bad sideline Karma when he and the team struggled last year. . . I wanted him and would have overpaid to keep him but lets keep the conversation real.
The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

Redskins prove to me that they have a worse owner and definitely a worse FO than we do. They bench a guy but don't trade him.
that would be like us refusing a trade for Britt
I'm not a big believer in WRs changing things much type of guy. But can't wait for Josh to get back on track. Actually I would have liked to see Josh, Pryor and Njoku out there...sure have Coleman in the slot....add Duke and Seth...all we would need is a QB...lol

I wouldn't have a problem with it. No doubt the guy is a moron and took the wrong deal....life is a learning experience.
He should have signed his best deal, but no....now he gets a fraction of that. How much do you offer a guy who is deep on the depth chart and is on pace to catch maybe 45 balls?
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong
