Anybody watch this movie as a Pre-Thanksgiving tradition? I try to watch it a few times leading up to the holiday ... IMO, one of the greatest comedies (and one of the only Thanksgiving movies) of all time. Can't beat John Candy for some nostalgia.

It's not the holidays unless I watch my favorite holiday classics ... Home Alone, Planes/Trains, Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation, etc.

I also love watching sitcom holiday episodes (Home Improvement, Roseanne, etc) ... just a dumb "comfort" thing I do around this time.

Anyone else watch stuff to get into the spirit?

I don't watch it as a tradition, but remember laughing my ass off when I watched it years ago.

I rank this as one of the funniest movies I've ever seen, its just great start to finish.

I'll watch it whenever its on and this time of year is appropriate.

Yes.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles is a Thanksgiving time tradition with me.

I have the disc and will watch it soon.

By the way.

You’re a true Trekkie if you can spot Commodore Decker from the Original Trek episode “Doomsday Machine” in the movie Planes, Trains & Automobiles.

Definitely a classic. Haven't watched it in a while.

I just read the other day that Candy was my age when he died. 43. Still sad he left us so early.

The woman who played that guy's wife was on SNL during the 90s. No way I'll remember her name.

OK time’s up.

Commodore Decker (William Windom) was the indecisive client in the opening scene of PT&A.

Keep in mind it was ~ 20 years later.

PT&A was also a staple movie in the "Kevin Bacon Game" - a late 80s - 90s adult party group game based on the fact that Bacon was in a wide wide variety of movies.

Bacon cameo in PT&A.

Bacon is in under-appreciated actor. He's really good playing the bad guy.

For me though, I get my Christmas freak on from the music, not movies. It usually doesnt start until mid-December, which is when I start seriously thinking about Christmas.

I will this year as I am not traveling to Ohio for the holiday. I usually miss the airing because of travel, or getting stuff done pre-travel.

Yes. PT&A is always a good one for that game. As are Animal House, Sleepers, and Flatliners.

The opening cab chase scene with Bacon is one of my favorites in any movie. Here it is!

Two other great Thanksgiving movies:

Miracle on 34th Street

(movie starts with the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade)

Trading Places

Both movies start at Thanksgiving time and go through December.

It was wonderful. We watched PTA. Just as the movie ended, The Goonies started up on another channel.

For as much as I rip these TV and movie channels for constantly playing the same crap over and over, they really do a god job around the holidays of playing the classic movies.
