When did you start liking HF?? I agree though that he can be a very servicable C, and that allows us to move Bentley to LG. That way we aren't in a position where we MUST get a OG in the FA or if we finally do draft a 1st day OG then we don't have to rush them into the starting lineup. Bro if Sowells is ready to play (big IF considering we haven't seen much of him) then we would be in a position where we could actually draft and develop OL instead of spending big money in FA or rushing a rookie into starting his 1st year. I don't think Fraley is a beast by any means, but he's gotten better as the year has progressed, and is a avg C in the NFL...........which is much more than I can say about our current OGs. I personally would love to see us spend a day one pick on a RT or a OG and then let them develop, and with HF back at C and LB healthy at LG I think that allows us to do that.

Btw........haven't seen Danielle for awhile. I know she's pregnant. Hope she's okay and just sick of us posters.
Yes, hope everthing is ok with her.
...but, I wouldn't think that she'd be allowed to post on boards like this (wife of a player).

We need to refrain from being big spenders in FA. Most teams do not let their good players leave, and what big spenders end up with are average players with ballon sized contracts that in the long run end up hurting the team due to financial constraints.

I guess how I feel, if we can add a decent veteran to the offensive line we should, but we shouldn't go hog wild.

She was on Monday/Tuesday after the Kanas City game...less than a week ago. It just seems like longer with us playing on Thursday this week...

You ever try telling a pregnant wife she couldn't do something that she wanted to do ??? Hank doesn't need that kind of trouble... <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

My attitude on the deal is this....

If a player is a good player and knows he will get multiple offers, he goes with the team that will give him the best shot at the superbowl.

If he is your average schmuck he goes with the money.
Peen the only guy you left off your list is the guy who is also looking for a starting job because he's decent but his replacement has already been put in place... ... and those aren't stars, because stars don't worry about starting...

Good to hear the news about cap money. I'm sure we're going to go out and spend a decent amount of money as there are some solid players in next years class. There's quite a few guys that could help us out. Here's a few names I would like to see wearing the Orange and Brown:

RB
Michael Turner, RFA, San Diego Chargers

OL
Eric Steinbach, UFA, Bengals
Max Starks RFA Pittsburgh Steelers
Leonard Davis UFA Arizona Cardinals
Vincent Manuwai, UFA, Jacksonville Jaguars

LB
Cato June, UFA, Indianapolis Colts
Adalius Thomas, UFA, Baltimore Ravens (This is probably who I want the most in this class)

DB
Nate Clements, UFA, Buffalo Bills
Asante Samuel UFA New England Patriots

I think there are some good pieces in this class that could really help us out. Adalius Thomas is a stud and can play many positions on defense. Turner could help us out at RB. He hits the hole really hard and has some top notch speed. Clements would be a nice pick up since we are quite thin at DB and he is still relatively young. With a couple pieces, our defense could be very good. Hopefully we'll be able to bring in these two.

I think if anything... we might be able to pull Asante Samuel here... seeing as RAC made a huge impact to the Pats D. And that IMO would be a good thing... Other thing I'd like them to hone in on is the O-line... Personally, I don't care how we get good olinemen be it through the draft or through FA... we just need good players there.

What I would really like to see, is for us to use this money to get a couple of really good young players instead of 6 or 7 aging marginal players. For example I'd rather see us go all in for a guy like Steinbach than get a second tier guard and a second tier corner.....

I'm right on with you on that, DC. I'd rather see a couple quality players brought in rather than seven or eight "just okay" guys.

I would like to get Steinbach too, or someone similar... the Vikings managed to pry Hutchinson away from Seattle... maybe we can do the same with a good O or D lineman.

If all we signed was:

Asante Samuel CB Patriots
Terdell Sands DT Raiders
Eric Steinbach OG Bungles

I'd be thrilled.

I'd have to have a few beer if we signed these two, Add a CB and a DT and were pretty good,

Resign Hank and I do believe we fix the O-line and our RB & QB problems will be solved.

Just clickin'

I keep seeing everyone pushing for Steinbach. My question you all of you guys then is, remember that he is one of the eight arrested Ben-gals this year for driving a boat while intoxicated, is he a good character guy who just screwed up or a Ross Verba prodigy?

According to figures published by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the Browns currently rank fifth in the league in projected salary cap room for 2007. They have $33.3 million to spend. The only teams with more room are San Francisco ($42.1 million), Buffalo ($39.7 million), Arizona ($36.7 million) and Tennessee ($36 million).

Hmmmm, anyone else see a pattern here?!

San Fran - 5 and 8
Buffalo - 6 and 7
Arizona - 4 and 9
and Tennessee - 6 and 7.

Not one team with a winning record. I'm not so sure it's nice to be in the same boat as these teams. The only consolation being we have an owner who's willing to spend some money. Not the case for San Fran and Buffalo.

I'll be looking more forward to the draft than the free agency period this year.

I'm really hoping that by the time the draft rolls around that we have shored up at least 2 of our big question marks... (not like the whole OL, but at least one member of it) or one DL or one CB.... If we could get 2 legit players from those positions I'd be really happy going into the draft...

[color:"white"]Top Quarterbacks

Matt Schaub, RFA, Atlanta Falcons
The free agent quarterback class is light in 2007, but teams in true need of a field general may be highly interested in Schaub. He has an NFL arm and has shown flashes of possibly being a legitimate quality starting quarterback. It is likely that just a handful of teams would aggressively pursue Schaub, but if someone is willing to pay decent money and forfeit a draft pick for Schaub, he could be lured away from his spot behind Michael Vick. In the end, Schaub?s chances of re-signing with the Falcons don?t look good, as Schaub will pursue a bigger role in another offense.

Chris Simms, UFA, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The 2006 season went terribly awry for Simms. In 2005, he completed 61% of his passes and entered the current season determined to improve upon those efforts, but in just the third game of season against the Carolina Panthers, Simms was hit hard multiple times. After the game, Simms was taken to a hospital where surgeons performed a splenectomy, removing his spleen because of internal bleeding. If Simms is able to play the game again, and decides to strap on the helmet, his initial role could be greatly diminished because of health concerns.

Damon Huard, UFA, Kansas City Chiefs
Huard had fallen off the NFL map somewhat in recent seasons. After starting as the Miami Dolphins quarterback in the ?99 and ?00 seasons, he played in just four games and attempted only one pass from the ?01 season through the ?05 season. An early injury to Chiefs starter Trent Green changed Huard?s fate. Huard played in parts of nine games while Green was out, and in those nine games, he showed that he was a quite capable NFL quarterback. Huard posted a 97.6 quarterback rating with a 60.6% completion rate, and his 11 touchdown passes to just one interception had to have made an impression on someone. Huard may be asked to play second fiddle in a new town, but if he shows the same talent that he did in replacing Green, he could make a run at a starting position, if there?s a team looking to take a risk on a veteran.

Other Free Agent Quarterbacks

Rohan Davey, RFA, Arizona Cardinals
Shaun King, UFA, Indianapolis Colts
John Navarre, RFA, Arizona Cardinals
Tim Rattay, UFA, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Anthony Wright, UFA, Cincinnati Bengals

[color:"white"]Top Free Agent HB
Ahman Green, UFA, Green Bay Packers
Injuries and protecting the ball have been Green?s Achilles? heel. In 2003, Green rushed for over 1,800 yards. In 2004, his rushing total fell to under 1,200 yards. In 2005, he played in just five games and totaled 255 yards. He runs behind a suspect offensive line and takes a pounding, as do all of the Packers? backs. He fumbles more than his team would wish, and yet, a healthy Ahman Green is a pretty good Ahman Green. So far in 2006, he?s played in four games, finding the endzone just once on the ground. He?s rushed effectively in two games, and struggled in his other two efforts. The former Nebraska Cornhusker could be looking for work outside of Green Bay because of injuries, fumbles, and inconsistency. As a free agent running back who will be 30, Green will settle for a backup role with a team looking for insurance.

Michael Turner, RFA, San Diego Chargers
Turner takes a beating and keeps going. Turner isn?t well known to the general public, but the kid has talent. He gets a handful of carries behind Ladainian Tomlinson and has maximized those carries, averaging six yards per carry in his short career. If Turner continues to have success in his current role, it won?t be long before teams start thinking about making an offer come free agency. With his expanded role in San Diego this season, it shouldn?t surprise anyone to see Turner sign elsewhere, but the Chargers may look to keep their dangerous rushing combo together.

Chris Brown, UFA, Tennessee Titans
Brown might wind up back in Tennessee when all is said and done, but there could be interest from teams looking for a decent backup or desperate for a starter with some experience under his belt. A team might like to use Brown in a running back by committee scenario, if he has a good season as the main back with the Titans this season. His upright running style might make him an appealing change of pace back, and he did rush for over 1,000 yards in just 11 games during the 2004 season, but Brown?s health is a concern. In his three seasons, he?s never played in all 16 games.

Ladell Betts UFA Washington Redskins
In filling in for an injured Clinton Portis at times this season, Betts has shown flashes of solid talent. An NFL squad might give him a long look when they sit down and start looking for rushing options. He?s just 27, and while he might not get a featured role, he could make a case for one in some NFL offenses. In limited action, he has averaged 4.7 yards per rush and added 23 receptions up to this point of the season.

Other Free Agent Running Backs
Correll Buckhalter, UFA, Philadelphia Eagles
Najeh Davenport, UFA, Pittsburgh Steelers
Nick Goings, UFA, Carolina Panthers
Maurice Hicks, RFA, San Francisco 49ers
Patrick Pass, UFA, New England Patriots
Artose Pinner, RFA, Detroit Lions
B.J. Sams, RFA, Baltimore Ravens
Marcel Shipp, UFA, Arizona Cardinals
Antowain Smith, UFA, Houston Texans

[color:"white"]Top Free Agent WR
Drew Bennett, UFA, Tennessee Titans
Bennett might not be considered a special wide receiver in NFL circles, but the UCLA product has great size and good hands as a second receiving option. An uncanny connection with quarterback Billy Volek in 2004 helped Bennett to 1,247 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. With Vince Young being named the starter, it?s been up and down statistically, so Bennett could easily move on?to a team more ready to compete in the present. Several teams could use Bennett to compliment a smaller and faster receiver, and if used properly, Bennett can put up strong numbers once again.

Kevin Curtis, UFA, St. Louis Rams
It is likely that Curtis hangs around St. Louis. He?s being used more and more in the offense and Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt are only getting older. If Curtis leaves the Rams, it will be because he doesn?t feel utilized enough and another team wants his services with a nice pay check offer. The Rams may just work an extension and save the trouble of Curtis looking around in the off season, but if Curtis does hit the market, he?ll make a solid second wide receiver for a team willing to use his speed in the right way.

Patrick Crayton, RFA, Dallas Cowboys
Crayton benefits from the talent around him, but he?s also a solid option in the passing game. Terry Glenn missed the Cowboys week ten game, so Crayton filled in and caught five passes for 104 yards and a score. He?s posted more than 60 receiving yards in five games this season as the third-string wideout. His RFA status will make his move out of Dallas more unlikely, but with his potential, there will definitely be teams looking to bump him into the number two receiving slot.

TE Eric Johnson, UFA, San Francisco 49ers
The tight end free agent options are appealing. Johnson tops the list because it is almost absolute that he will be on his way out of San Francisco. The 49ers drafted Vernon Davis early in the first round, and Johnson won?t see the field once Davis proves he?s ready to start and play every down. Davis? freakish athletic ability will make that a quick process, so Johnson is going to be looking for a new place to play on Sundays. In 2005, Johnson caught 82 passes for 825 yards and a pair of touchdowns, so a team looking for a pass catching tight end will take a chance on Johnson in the hopes that he can repeat that production.

Other Free Agent Wide Receivers
Marc Boerigter, UFA, Green Bay Packers
David Boston, UFA, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tyrone Calico, UFA, Tennessee Titans
Andre' Davis, UFA, Buffalo Bills
Bobby Engram, UFA, Seattle Seahawks
Justin Gage, UFA, Chicago Bears
D.J. Hackett, RFA, Seattle Seahawks
Keenan McCardell, UFA, San Diego Chargers
Shaun McDonald, UFA, St. Louis Rams
Samie Parker, RFA, Kansas City Chiefs
Jerome Pathon, UFA, Atlanta Falcons
Willie Ponder, UFA, New York Giants
Edell Shepherd, RFA, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Travis Taylor, UFA, Minnesota Vikings
Scottie Vines, RFA, Detroit Lions
Bobby Wade, UFA, Tennessee Titans
Peter Warrick, UFA, Seattle Seahawks
Kelley Washington, UFA, Cincinnati Bengals
Alvis Whitted, UFA, Oakland Raiders
Ernest Wilford, RFA, Jacksonville Jaguars
Other Free Agent Tight Ends
Kyle Brady, UFA, Jacksonville Jaguars
Daniel Graham, UFA, New England Patriots
Ben Hartsock, RFA, Indianapolis Colts
Zach Hilton, UFA, New York Jets
Reggie Kelly, UFA, Cincinnati Bengals
Jerramy Stevens, UFA, Seattle Seahawks
Boo Williams, UFA, New York Giants

[color:"white"]Top Free Agent OL
Max Starks RFA Pittsburgh Steelers
Starks is a starting tackle for a Super Bowl champion. That?s enough in itself to get some teams a little excited about the prospects of acquiring him. The fact that Starks is young, talented, and massive in stature?listed at 6?8?, 337 lbs.?just adds to the excitement pile. Another lineman that shouldn?t be going anywhere as the Steelers will not let Starks go without a fight. The best bet is that Starks will decide he wants to stay in Pittsburgh and sign an extension. If he hits the market, there will be a team or two willing to pay a big amount to entice the tackle to relocate.

Leonard Davis UFA Arizona Cardinals
Davis is a massive tackle that the Cardinals can?t afford to lose to free agency, but it seems likely that they will. The Arizona offensive line is already suspect, and losing Davis would be a huge step in the wrong direction, but the team may have to let him go and find a replacement. Davis has shown the ability to simply be a wall of protection for his quarterback and while teams might not line up for the chance to sign him, anyone looking for a tackle will have him high on the list.

Mike Gandy, UFA, Buffalo Bills
A relatively young starting left tackle, Gandy had been blocking for Willis McGahee over the past two seasons, and this season could go a long way in making Gandy an appealing free agent. He has talent, but isn?t considered among the league?s best linemen. However, a decent starting left tackle doesn?t just drop from the sky, so expect him to garner interest from a handful of teams, if Buffalo doesn?t re-sign him before the market opens.

Other Free Agent Offensive Linemen
Eric Steinbach, UFA, Bengals
Jordan Black, UFA, Kansas City Chiefs
Dwayne Carswell, UFA, Denver Broncos
Derrick Dockery, UFA, Washington Redskins
Nat Dorsey, RFA, Cleveland Browns
Chris Gray, UFA, Seattle Seahawks
Norm Katnik, RFA, New York Jets
Ryan Lilja, RFA, Indianapolis Colts
Sean Locklear, RFA, Seattle Seahawks
Vincent Manuwai, UFA, Jacksonville Jaguars
Roman Oben, UFA, San Diego Chargers
Brian Rimpf, RFA, Baltimore Ravens
Eric Steinbach, UFA, Cincinnati Bengals
Todd Steussie, UFA, St. Louis Rams
Floyd Womack, UFA, Seattle Seahawks
Kris Dielman, UFA, San Diego
Damion McIntosh, UFA, Miami Dolphins

[color:"white"]Top Free Agent DL
Dwight Freeney, UFA, Indianapolis Colts
Freeney originally signed for seven years in 2002, but having reached certain incentive levels in his contract has voided the final two seasons, making him a free agent at the end of this season. Freeney has posted double-digit sack totals in each of his four seasons coming into 2006, and has forced 23 fumbles in that time. He?s one of the top pass rushers around. He plays with an incredible motor, but he has been hampered by an injury this season, limiting him to just five tackles and no sacks. Yet, with some of the best speed at his position, many teams will be lining up for a shot at a player that can apply pressure on the quarterback quite often.

Jared Allen, RFA, Kansas City Chiefs
Perhaps the top defensive lineman that will see the market, Allen, has posted totals of 9 and 11 in the sack department in the two seasons prior to 2006, and he?s added 3 more this season. The Chiefs will do everything in their power to keep him, but teams on the outside looking in could see Allen as a free agent must. He?s young, plays with a big motor, and puts pressure on the quarterback often, evidenced by his 7 forced fumbles last season. Teams will line up for the type of player that Allen is, and being an RFA doesn?t change that much. Allen makes the list because of his talent, but it?s difficult to imagine that the Chiefs would allow him to slip away on the market. Expect the Chiefs to negotiate a contract extension or possibly use the franchise tag if Allen has another great season.

Vonnie Holliday, UFA, Miami Dolphins
He?s been an effective defensive tackle throughout his career, and when Holliday hits the market, his experience, talent, and size will make him a desirable option for teams that need defensive interior run support. Miami won?t want to lose him, as they have a collection of veteran players who could help make a Super Bowl push in the next few seasons, but Holliday can command a decent dollar amount if he seeks a new employer. Don?t be surprised to see the Dolphins re-sign him before free agency.

Terdell Sands UFA Oakland Raiders
The defensive tackle entered his fifth NFL season without much fanfare. He was stuck behind other players, and hadn?t been thought of as an impact player by most. However, the former Chattanooga player has shined when given the opportunity. One reason that Sands has been effective is his size. Standing 6?7? and weighing 335 pounds, Sands is enormous, and difficult to take out of a play. His height allows him to bat down passes if he cannot get penetration, and he has developed a decent awareness of where the ball is. In non-starter minutes, he?s still just two tackles away from his career season high, and he is earning more and more time each week. The Raider will be well-served to sign him to an extension, but Sands might look elsewhere if Oakland won?t guarantee him more playing time.

Justin Smith, UFA, Bengals
The Bengals 2001 first round pick, Smith has shown improvement over time and become a significant threat to the opposition?s quarterback. Smith has tallied 40.5 career sacks up to this point, and already has 6.5 in the current season, a pace that would make for a career best. Smith has also been a consistent tackler with more than 54 total tackles each season of his career. Smith is a big and quick pass-rusher, and he will command a good deal of attention on the market, and he should make a good deal of money.

Other Free Agent Defensive Lineman
Edward Jasper, UFA, Philadelphia Eagles
Chad Lavalais, RFA, Atlanta Falcons
Cory Redding, UFA, Detroit Lions
Hollis Thomas, UFA, New Orleans Saints
Robaire Smith, UFA, Tennessee Titans
Bryan Thomas, UFA, New York Jets
Michael Myers, UFA, Denver Broncos

[color:"white"]Top Free Agent LB
Lance Briggs, UFA, Chicago Bears
Briggs benefits from having Brian Urlacher as a teammate, but that?s no reason to doubt that Briggs is a really good linebacker in his own right. He may be the most sought after linebacker in this free agent class, and the Bears will have difficulty in retaining all of the defensive talent they have in the next few seasons if they wish to spend more money on offensive help and re-sign other current players. The Bears could slap the franchise tag on Briggs to keep him around, but if they don?t, expect him to be leaving the Windy City and taking up residence for a new team that will try and feature him on defense. Teams needing a tough linebacker to plug holes and make tackles will put Briggs high on their list. Given the Bears history in this type of matter, it?s likely that Briggs will find a new place to punish offenses?but it will be very hard to let him go, so don?t be surprised to see him hang around in Chicago.

Na'il Diggs, UFA, Carolina Panthers
Diggs has been a steady linebacker for the Green Bay Packers since his second season in the league. Injuries forced him to miss seven games last season and he now has just a single season to prove to the Panthers that he deserves a larger contract. Diggs, while steady, isn?t necessity for Carolina, so expect to see him hit the market in the hopes that someone appreciates what he does on the field, maybe even over-appreciates what he does on the field. However, with the loss of Dan Morgan for the season, and perhaps longer, Diggs has a real chance to step up. Staying healthy will be the first step towards a successful contract year, and if he can perform like he did in Green Bay, a handful of teams should be interested in bringing Diggs into the fold. Anyone looking for a veteran linebacker to make some tackles and hold his own will show an interest.

Cato June, UFA, Indianapolis Colts
Recent legal trouble could hurt his stock, but June was a first time starter in the Pro Bowl this past season. He?s relatively young and a tackling machine, so it?s likely that the Colts will do what they can to retain his talents. There?s good chance that June hits the market, though, to see what other organizations have to offer him financially; the Colts inability to reach the Super Bowl may also factor into a decision to leave. June?s not an overpowering player, so a team interested in him will be looking at utilizing his speed as a top priority, in the same way that the Colts have done. June will be the most sought after linebacker on the market, and perhaps the most sought after defensive player.

Adalius Thomas, UFA, Baltimore Ravens
It could be difficult to keep Thomas around because of his emerging status as one of the better linebackers in the NFL. Last season, with Ray Lewis lost to an injury for ten games, Thomas shined for the Ravens defensive unit. Credited with 86 total tackles, nine sacks, and a returned touchdown on one of his two interceptions, he boosted his free agent potential and he could be one of the top two or three pursued players if he has a successful ?06 campaign. Someone will throw big dollars his way, which means he could be lured away from Baltimore.

London Fletcher UFA Buffalo Bills
Fletcher is good, plain and simple. He?ll be 32 heading into next season, but he?s still producing with 56 total tackles credited to him so far this season along with a pair of sacks. Fletcher hasn?t missed a game in his career, and he?s also tallied 119 total tackles or more in every season since 2000. If the Bills don?t get him to sign an extension, expect Fletcher to garner attention from several teams looking for a veteran presence that can make things happen on the field. Wherever Fletcher ends up, he?ll be brought in to act as a defensive leader and to make big plays. Ultimately, he could be the cream of the crop in terms of available linebackers.

Other Free Agent Linebackers
Chase Blackburn, ERFA, New York Giants
Chad Brown, UFA, Pittsburgh Steelers
James Darling, UFA, Arizona Cardinals
Randall Godfrey, UFA, San Diego Chargers
Kawika Mitchell, UFA, Kansas City Chiefs
Rob Morris, UFA, Indianapolis Colts

[color:"white"]Top FA DB
Nate Clements, UFA, Buffalo Bills
Clements should be the top target of teams looking for help in the secondary. He?s young, highly regarded, and very talented. Buffalo would like nothing more than to have him signed to an extension as quickly as possible, but his talent?he does have two Pro Bowl selections?may lead him to test the market. Without an extension, the Bills must decide if they are willing to franchise tag Clements once again to guarantee his presence on the gridiron for one more season. Since Clements has not been adversely affected by NFL officiating changes, most NFL teams will pursue the cornerback if he hits the market.

Asante Samuel UFA New England Patriots
Samuel has shown growth over the course of his three-plus years of experience, and at only 25 years of age, he?ll be a hot commodity. If the Patriots don?t sign him to an extension, suitors will be lining up to try and acquire the talented cornerback. His coverage skills have developed and some are even talking about a possible Pro Bowl invite. This season is quickly becoming a breakout year, and it could lead to a nice payday for Samuel, which doesn?t bode well for the Patriots; but, expect the Patriots to try hard to lock up the UCF product with an extension.

Ken Hamlin, UFA, Seattle Seahawks
Hamlin is a talented safety with the potential to get even better. After an injury caused him to miss ten games last season, Hamlin has rebounded mightily this season with 70 total tackles, three interceptions, and a pair of sacks. Hamlin is on pace to equal his interception high, and his two sacks are tied with his career high. The athletic defensive back could be a valuable asset to most teams, and the Seahawks will work hard to re-sign him.

Forget it, I found it....

No one jumps out at me as far as the D-line is concerned as you can forget about Freeney. Oline Davis or Steinbach would be an improvement. I'm only interested in 2 QB's if we go that route and it's Schuab or Huard. At RB I'm a huge Michael Turner fan and Green's best days are behind him. I don't see Savage going DB in Free Agency unless he gets a great deal for someone.

If anyone's interested:

Max Starks RFA Pittsburgh Steelers
Leonard Davis UFA Arizona Cardinals
Mike Gandy, UFA, Buffalo Bills
Eric Steinbach, UFA, Bengals
Jordan Black, UFA, Kansas City Chiefs
Dwayne Carswell, UFA, Denver Broncos
Derrick Dockery, UFA, Washington Redskins
Nat Dorsey, RFA, Cleveland Browns
Chris Gray, UFA, Seattle Seahawks
Norm Katnik, RFA, New York Jets
Ryan Lilja, RFA, Indianapolis Colts
Sean Locklear, RFA, Seattle Seahawks
Vincent Manuwai, UFA, Jacksonville Jaguars
Roman Oben, UFA, San Diego Chargers
Brian Rimpf, RFA, Baltimore Ravens
Eric Steinbach, UFA, Cincinnati Bengals
Todd Steussie, UFA, St. Louis Rams
Floyd Womack, UFA, Seattle Seahawks
Kris Dielman, UFA, San Diego
Damion McIntosh, UFA, Miami Dolphins

And on the Dline:

Dwight Freeney, UFA, Indianapolis Colts - Forget about it!
Jared Allen, RFA, Kansas City Chiefs
Vonnie Holliday, UFA, Miami Dolphins
Terdell Sands UFA Oakland Raiders
Justin Smith, UFA, Bengals
Edward Jasper, UFA, Philadelphia Eagles
Chad Lavalais, RFA, Atlanta Falcons
Cory Redding, UFA, Detroit Lions
Hollis Thomas, UFA, New Orleans Saints
Robaire Smith, UFA, Tennessee Titans
Bryan Thomas, UFA, New York Jets
Michael Myers, UFA, Denver Broncos

QB's

Damon Huard, UFA, Kansas City Chiefs
Rohan Davey, RFA, Arizona Cardinals
Shaun King, UFA, Indianapolis Colts
John Navarre, RFA, Arizona Cardinals
Tim Rattay, UFA, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Anthony Wright, UFA, Cincinnati Bengals

and at RB:
Ahman Green, UFA, Green Bay Packers
Michael Turner, RFA, San Diego Chargers
Chris Brown, UFA, Tennessee Titans
Correll Buckhalter, UFA, Philadelphia Eagles
Najeh Davenport, UFA, Pittsburgh Steelers
Nick Goings, UFA, Carolina Panthers

and DB's

Yes he did.

Quote
UPI Sports News Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Running back Ladell Betts Friday signed a five-year contract extension with the Washington Redskins.

The five-year veteran from Iowa has been a perennial back-up, but got a chance to be a starter when Clinton Portis was placed on injured reserve after surgery on his broken right hand.

Betts would have been a free agent in the off-season.

It's always tempting, Betts said about free agency on the team's Web site. From a competitive standpoint, everyone wants to be the man at their particular position. It was something I had to weigh. I had to weigh my value and the things I wanted to accomplish in this league. I had to consider security and being comfortable where I'm at. At the end of the day, this is the decision I feel like I'm happy with.

Betts has gained 643 yards and scored two touchdowns on 141 carries in 12 games this season. Last Sunday against Atlanta, he rushed for 155 yards on 28 carries.

When did you start liking HF??

Since he upgraded his performance.

You should know by now, that I don't stick w/a point just to prove I was right. I go by what I see.

I was not excited as most of the board when Fraley came here. I couldn't get past the fact that Philly let him go for next to nothing. They also seemed to be trying almost any other option rather than Fraley at center. I found that disturbing.

When he got here, he was struggling early in the season. Big time! I pointed that out. I did understand that coming to a new team w/out having attended QB school, minicamp, training camp, and preseason games was a "real" problem for him.

I have noticed that Fraley's play has improved dramatically as the season went on. He was outstanding against the Chiefs. He did a good job at pass blocking and in the running game, he would make contact at the LOS and then get to the second level. It was impressive.

I think he needs to lose some weight in the gut. He could actually be VERY good at the second level, which as you well know, turns 3 and 4 yd. gains into big gainers.

Another reason I want him signed is that I don't think Bentley is coming back next year. We need a center. Hopefully, Savage will take his head out of his ass and draft some o-linemen. We need a veteran presence at center.

If, by some miracle Bentley does come back, we could put him at LG and him and Fraley would be a good tandem. Our guards suck! Andruzzi needs to be replaced and Coleman will not be resigned.

Let me tell you something about Sowells. As I mentioned earlier, our guards suck and yet Sowells has seen ZERO playing time. Does that tell you anything? Bro, I will be surprised if he is ready next year. I hope he is, but I try to look at things based on reality rather than hope. I guess that is a character flaw on this board. <img src="/images/graemlins/rolleyes1.gif" alt="" /> Let me put it this way......other than hoping he will start.....what has he done on the field to make anyone think he will be a legitimate starter next year? LMAO......

Sorry for laughing and I guess that is why some say I am arrogant. <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Back to Fraley. He will test FA if the Browns don't sign him before the end of the season. Other teams will see what I have seen. He will get an offer. I think Hank is a guy who really wants to win. Do you blame him? I think it would be a mistake for the lowly Brown's franchise to allow him to test free agency. I say......sign him now!

Did that answer your question satisfactorily? <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Call me crazy,(like that's something new to me) but this is the only FA who I feel has great upsides and won't break the bank to sign for the OL. I like this kid!

Asante Samuel UFA New England Patriots

And if we stand a shot at this kid? we gotta go for it. He shows maturity above his age and experience. That combined with his age,and it could be a key piece of our secondary for years to come.

Neither of these guys are old by NFL standards and have only gotten better. these two get my vote out of those coming out.

I think Asante Samuel will stay in New England. I have nothing to back that up......but I think they'd pay him to stay. I don't see them letting that guy in his prime to walk. Even if he's best friends with RAC.

Push hard for anything near the top of each list (OL, DL, and DB).

You could very well be right. But if there's one team that won't pay him big bucks,it's NE. Thay're notorious for making a "reasonable offer" and pretty much sticking to it.

And so usually,it's more a question of how badly he wants to stay in NE,not the money. In most cases,NE's players know they will fair much better on the open market than what NE offers. So I guess we'll see how this pans out. If he played for anyone other than NE,I'd side strongly with you on that opinion. But when you talk about NE and money,I'd say they're the one team that may not meet his expectations.

That's why I said in that it was a big IF in my earlier post with Sowells. I guess they could be grooming him slowly, but yeah I've had the same thoughts...........why no playing time with the crap we are seeing at OG now??? Oh and if he could play he would find the field..........hell Kam and DQ are starting, and the Williams kid is getting significant PT as well. He actually worries me more than Wilson not getting any PT, because the transition to the NFL at RG is one of easiest there is to make.........just man up and play. It makes me wonder if we didn't find another Perkins in round 4 again this year...lol. However, the fan in me wants to believe that it's just RAC wanting to keep the vets in this year and develop the rookie....lol.......hell I can hope can I...lol.

On Fraley, I agree we should resign him ASAP..........the only thing we are doing by delaying is at best driving up the price, or at worst giving him the oppurtunity like you said to let a better team come in with a good offer and steal him out right. Dumb move by Phil imo. It makes me wonder if we haven't approached HF already and he said no thanks let me test FA........that makes a heck of alot more since than just taking a wait and see approach, but as you know stupid things happen in Berea all the time so who knows. I'm worried about LB as well. I really hope he does an BE on us and the doom and gloom is BS made up by the media like last year. I actually think HF at C and then moving LB to LG is the biggest way we can improve this OL for next year without killing the ourselves with another big time FA contract..............and I said next year as you know I want a high pick rook as well, but they aren't going to improve the line like that would as a rookie........long term definitly, but as a rook nah.

maybe opie is waiting till the end of the season to make sure that he doesn't end up in IR with the other 1/2 of our team.

Savage is waiting until the end of the season, because he dosent wanna [censored] off the players who wont be offered contracts, If a players knows or see's he's not coming back, he's not gonna play hard, he's not wanted here anymore attitiude, so to stay away from this, Savage wont offer anybody a contact until it's over,

Yet Sowells and Wison haven't seen any action...I doubt if both are busts..Phil said they basically reshirted both this year ..we could look at it and say he hasn't shown anyhting in practice to garner playing time..but that would apply to Wilson also wouldn't it?
Yet Perkins got in a few reps but in reality didn't show anything period..I'm not ready to discard Sowells until they do because I haven't seen anything..and I really don't know why.
I have a feeling they're not going to negotiate yet with Hank until Phil knows more about Bentley who I think will be doubtful for 07.
But what we DON'T know is if Phil has maybe told Hanks agent the circumstances ..so it may not be a mystery to them..we aren't going to know all the conversations that take place.

On the flip side of things, it is to the point it really doesn't benefit Fraley to sign early. 3-4 weeks ago it might have provided comfort, but now I doubt it does.

If the Browns want him now, they will want him in a month or two. You add in the fog that lingers over the Bentley situation and Fraley is possibly looking a several hunderd thousand dollars difference in bonus if Bentley can go or if he can't.

If I was in his ear, I would tell him to not be in any real hurry to sign.

Unless something shocking takes place I'm not too concerned about Fraley..he was the first center Phil wanted and he waited and waited till he got him..I doubt if he lets him walk ..even should Bentley not require another surgery he won't be on the field come TC..

Which could be the case already, FO isnt gonna issue any statements saying thier currently negotiating with somebody, Browns might have already offered FH a contract and he's sitting on it

[color:"white"]NRTU.

Something to consider. I haven't bothered to see exactly where we're at with the '06 cap, but in order to sign people to extensions within the current season, a team must have sufficient space to do so. So while we could sign smaller contracts like what we gave to our kick returner (he's no receiver), we may not have the space to sign a larger contract.

Just a thought.

Derrick Dockery is someone nobody is talking about but I would be happy if we sign him as well. He has played pretty well the pas few seasons and he is only 27 next season.
