Hue Jackson says Josh Gordon has been a 'pleasure' to be around in Cleveland Browns' facility

Josh Gordon is still a little less than a week away from returning to practice and more than two weeks away from playing in a regular season game.

But according to Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson, so far, Gordon's return to the team facility in Berea has been so good.

"He's doing well. He's here in the building every day. On time for everything. Involved. A big smile on his face,' Jackson said. "He's a pleasure to be around."

The former All-Pro wide receiver will be eligible to return to practice with the Browns on Nov. 20 and Cleveland's lineup for its Dec. 3 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. Gordon, who hasn't appeared in an NFL game since the 2014 season, is currently in the midst of serving a four-game suspension after repeated violations of the league's substance abuse policy.

His progress since being conditionally reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell last month, however, appears to be another step in the right direction for a player who will have been suspended for 54 of the Browns' previous 59 games by the time he is eligible to return next month.

Gordon's nearing return hasn't been the only encouraging sign for the Cleveland wide receivers room as of late. On Thursday, Jackson revealed he expects Corey Coleman to handle a full workload against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday as the former first-round pick returns from a broken hand that prevented him from appearing in the Browns' last seven games.

Second-year player Ricardo Louis currently leads Cleveland's wideouts with 25 catches and 307 yards on the season.

Wish him well (here or elsewhere). I'm sure just being back "around the guys" is awesome.

Chief Njoku may get a little jealous...

Just seeing his name makes me want to throw on his highlights and sit there drooling. I hope more than anything that he really is back. There are few people with his natural talent.

Maybe Gordon can teach Njoku how to catch the ball? . . . that's a little unkind because Njoku has had good games with impressive catches .... but man he stunk it up a couple times too.

The better the WR's on the team the better for everyone. Even at 50% of what he was, Gordon would still probably instantly become our best WR... I have high hopes for Coleman - but he needs to show me/everyone (and stay healthy) before he can be relied on.

I hope it lasts. Good to hear. Hue should praise him; JG will need some encouragement and strokes for being in the right mode. Positive LR and team rapport can be vital.

I hope he comes back ready to play this time.

Get him to block AND catch. When he stinks, it is a stench. Focus, dude! Just needs reps and something else. The light is not on yet IMO.

I can't wait to see a picture of him. I think it was cfrs that made a post saying he's like, 9% body fat now and dropped a bunch.

It'll be fun - and something interesting to look forward to - when he steps on the field. I'd love to see him kick some ass when he gets back, beast out.

Here's what I want to see, even more than a DK2JG bombazz 40-yard 6-pt hookup:

I want to see how a regular season Browns game changes with just the presence of JG on the field.

The 'game student' in me wants to dive into this particular rabbit hole.

*How do the short/intermediate routes open up with a true 'deep threat' on the field?

*Does this translate into better YPC from Duke and Crow, since 'box stuffing' is no longer a viable full-game strategy?


Can we use JG smartly? Not only as a weapon, but also as a useful game-day chess piece to enhance other players' productivity?


Because THIS is the level at which this current admin/coaching team is required to operate.

MY BIGGEST FEAR is that this bunch won't know how to handle this fragile new wrinkle in the story... and will botch its potential because of unfamiliarity with positivity.

Because I'm a Browns fan.
I'm accustomed to seeing My Bunch mess up a one car parade in a one traffic light town.

Clem, I think that Gordon might play well and be a dynamic player.

However, if he doesn't perform at a high level, I would venture to say that it would be more about him being away from the game for so long and us not having many other weapons and an experienced qb than it would have to do w/any coaching blunders.

My problem with JG is Hue .

especially when Hue is known for a downfield passing offense, which would play into a strength of JG

Coleman should be on the field too, and maybe a Britt who wants to play. The question now becomes, how quickly can Kizer develop chemistry with two "new" receivers, and how quickly can he improve his accuracy to the point where he's delivering it to his two "new" playmakers accurately and consistently while placing the ball where they can catch it in stride and do what they do best: run. So much of the success for JG & Coleman lays with Kizer's ability to deliver the ball well. That's where we have to start. Then all your questions can come into play.

Nobody should expect immediate success right out of the gate. It will likely be a rocky start that will get better in the waning weeks of the season. Josh is only going to get five games and it will be on only like two weeks of real practice with the team.

That said - Josh's afterburners plus Kizer's arm should make for some fun things to watch up the sidelines or up the deep seam.

I do not trust Hue utilizing players .. Hue almost never uses the middle of the field because he doesn't trust his QB ( MY OPINION ) JG coming across the middle is deadly ! I don't think he has used Nujoku properly ( limited ) from the very beginning in his first year .. Putting players and plays in the right position is the name of the Game .. Hue may be a nice guy and an OK head Coach , but not my cup of tea for an OC ..

I started questioning some of the things he does as far as utilization goes last year ...

The big one to me last year was Pryors use in the RED ZONE ... last week the fade we threw to Njoku either equaled or was 1/2 of the fades we threw to TP from inside the 10 last year ... I beatch about it every week in chat ... especially when he was lined up 1 on 1 with no safety help in site ...

This year its his usage of duke up til the last 2 or 3 games ...

Same with the running game abondenment last year and this year up til the last 2 or 3 games ...

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but Greg Little is no Johnny Football... he didn't cause any real trouble apart from not catching the football. His off the field persona wasn't interesting.

This is going to be the press for the rest of the year. They are going to hound Gordon everywhere he goes.

While I still have to see for myself if this kid stays clean. I've been thru it and succeeded, but I've seem many go for a couple years then ,bam, right back at it.

Gordon has to make football his whole life. Except for his family, he should live in the facility. He has the tools to become great. Let's hope that becomes his new addiction.

I skimmed the article....does it mention the name of the place? I live a minute from W. 25th (Ohio City) and there aren't really clubs, in the truest sense of the word. More restaurants/bars. Maybe I'm forgetting a place or two.

Still, I'd be lying if, even at 11PM, that Gordon out on that stretch isn't concerning. Thursday is better than Friday or Saturday, however.

Josh Gordon has been hanging out with former Browns receiver Greg Little, and the two were seen together at a popular night spot on W. 25th Street at 11 p.m. Thursday night, a source told cleveland.com.

Gordon has posted several Snapchat stories of himself in the Cleveland area recently with Little, his good friend from their days together with the Browns. It's believed that Little is staying with Gordon and Gordon's business manager Michael Johnson.

Gordon's Snapchat from Thursday night showed him and Little riding around in a car and then working out at Rise Nation on Euclid. They later headed to the restaurant on W. 25th Street, which is more bar than restaurant after 11 p.m.

The site of Gordon in a club at that hour of night is of concern because he's only been out of his three-month stint in rehab for about six weeks, and was conditionally reinstated by Roger Goodell on Nov. 1 from his indefinite suspension for violating the substance abuse policy multiple times.

Right. So "more bar than restaurant". Got it. Then "nightspot" is mentioned. And then "club". Gotta love consistency. I'd say "more restaurant than bar" for the places I'm thinking of, especially during the week. Those places turn into bars as the night goes on and people have no longer reserved tables for dinner. But that's a personal opinion.

That's why I wondered if the name of the venue was mentioned. That would give me a better idea of the aforementioned terms. But again, it is concerning.

Oh stop it. Gordon's a big boy. He'll either make it or not on his own. Its more likely that Little is there as a friend for support and encouragement, than to be an inducement to party.

I tend to agree. Even though he was a bust as a player, I don't remember Little being an issue outside the locker room. I wonder if Little lives in Cleveland? As much as this town gets an unwarranted rap, people who visit tend to change their tune pretty quickly. I think Mangini moved back into the home they rented out to Mo Williams once his short lived stint in SF was over. I'm sure that'll give a select few a chubby.
