Not really?

Where is your proof that Hue wanted Britt and the FO didn't. You just make things up and then bash mac for posting an actual article on the subject.

Then, you go around here acting like it was only Hue who didn't want Wentz. I think that you are the one who lacks credibility.

And where is the proof that Gregg Williams warned the front office? You're going to go by a report that says, "Williams was a coach on a team Britt played, so I'm certain Williams must have warned the front office about him." Really? C'mon man, you're better than that.

Do you think if Britt was lighting it up in Cleveland the article would be about "despite warning from Williams Britt is performing well." Or would it say, "per Williams recommendation, front office signed Britt and it's paying off."

I never said there was "proof." What I said was that mac's article has more "credibility" than your wild-ass claims.

I'm not worried about Kenny Britt anymore. The last three weeks, he's been what he's supposed to be. 6 receptions on 7 targets for 95 yards and 1 TD. In two of those games, he made a big play, and in one he did nothing. He's supposed to be a secondary possession receiver. Make some plays when the ball is thrown his way but won't be a superstar.

Credit to him, it's been a vast improvement over some of his previous games. Things might have been different without the COleman injury. I do wonder if Britt just got off to a bad start, and it hit his confidence more than he was willing to admit. He hasn't been our only bad receiver, but he has been the one with the weight of expectation on him.

At the end of the day, he's on a 2 year, $17M contract, and he can be cut next year because his 2018 salary doesn't become fully guaranteed until the 3rd league day. With Gordon and Coleman back, and some nice draft picks, we can move on. Swing and a miss.

So the thought of firing a head coach who is 0-11 and 1-26 overall is a wild ass claim?

I think what Jimmy Donovan says is very interesting... In his talk about how Treggs is awful in the locker room, he mentioned how Treggs was a Hue guy, Hue knew his father from Cal and now Hue is doing a "favor" of sorts giving Treggs a shot...

Do you think Treggs is here because of the FO? Or because of Hue?

Do all the "it's so important who has final say of the 53 man roster" people around here still really believe it's that important?

Now, do people still feel Hue has no say with who is on the roster? You're lying if you think he doesn't.

Oh, he definately has input. That's fine. I just can't fathom giving him final say.

Yes. You don't want him to have final say. The issue is a lot of posters claim he doesn't have input. I think it's clear he does. I think final say is fine in the hands of Sashi because like I've been trying to explain, it's not as important as many think. There are times it will come up, but the roster is and should be a collaborative effort.

A head coach is only as good as the talent the personnel department provides.

The Harvard Boys have been in charge of personnel since the owner hired them in Jan 2016.

Mac, I agree with you about the talent on hand. I would argue it is more of a youth issue than talent.

But, You can not say that Hue Jackson has no fault in these losses. I feel he is a solid NFL coordinator who gets the most out of his players. However, one can not dismiss some of his play calling, especially in the red zone as well as his clock management. In both categories has been questionable at best.

Now, this does not get us from zero wins to four wins, but I think this forum would be a heck of a lot friendlier if we had the 2 wins. But then as has been stated..... then we go from the #1 pick to 3-4. And you know many people on here would be upset we lost the #1 pick. Probably not what the Browns need.

BTW, I feel we still have a chance to pull out 2-3 games and lose the #1 pick. It will be much more difficult without JT, JC & EO.

On the other hand the Harvard Boys had nothing to do with the game plan that called 66% pass plays against the best pass D in the league....

the only thing Hue Jackson should get moving forward is the same thing Sashi Brown and Depodesta should get, and thats the boot out of the Cleveland.

These 3 morons have created the miserable experience in the history of the Cleveland Browns organization...there isn't even anything to cheer for...the team, the coaches, even the front office is complete and total trash.

All 3 of them need to go...wait till years end, but after that, gone.

We need to do whatever it takes to get Peyton Manning into the role of GM here, or we bring over Nick Caserio from the Patriots to be our GM either way one of those two guys runs the show, hires the coach, etc...atleast then we will have someone who actually has an idea of what the hell he is doing to use our draft picks...because Hue, Sashi, and Depodesta don't have a clue....

This tema is actually worse this year then they were last year...how is that even possible...being worse then a 1-15 team? we may actually go 0-16...thats just awful...no one should survive that in the NFL unless your ok with losing...anything less then 5 wins this year should mean we cut bait and move on.

Manning or Caserio will actually fix things here...we will at least be flipping competitive instead of the laughing stock of the league we are now..

I’m sure Hue was all for Haden and Grecco being cut ... rolleyes ...

And it sounded like he was real pleased with the outcome of the AJ trade attempt ...

I thought Haden would be our 3rd or 4th CB this year ... he STINKS IMO .... as bad as he is ... he’s better than Taylor or Booty has played and its NOT EVEN CLOSE ... those guys both SUCK ASS this year ....

He’d be our 2nd best corner this year ....

Leaving a lawyer with the final decision on PERSONAL ISSUES makes about as much sense as allowing your garbage man to do your taxes or letting your dog groomer pull a tooth ..

Its MORONIC at best ....

I would much rather get a FOOTBALL GUY in ... no need for it to be Hue ... but if my choices are HUE and SASHI ... its HUE EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK ...

Thanks for bringing some reasoning to the board ...

I disagree in that i believe its

- youth as u mentioned ...

- lack of talent in certain groups ... secondary and recievers jump right off the page ... i dont blame the FO for this ... theres only so much u can do ...

- to me .. if we had an AJ or any NOT HORRIBLE QB we’d all ready have 3 or 4 wins ... thats not a slam on Kizer ... he wasn’t ready and hes cost us some wins .. thats gonna happen with a rook that’s NO WHERE NEAR READY ...

Look at that group ... TODAY ... it pathetic ... Kizer has a shot .. the other two ... good god are they horrible ...

A few have said it over the last few days ... EVERYONE NEEDS TO IMPROVE .. i agree 100% .. i been saying the FO and Hue BOTH HAVE WARTS!!!!

well that's kind of false, we have actually pretty decent qb play the last few weeks, and still no wins. so its not the qb play.

That is 7 pretty good at minimum players.

2017 netted:

Garrett
Peppers
Njoku
Ogunjoby
Brantley
Gonzalez
There is also Dayes who hasn't played and Wilson and Johnson who are out with injury, so we won't know until next year. I didn't even mention Kizer who some of you think is going to become the next best thing.

Lets get off the notion that we have drafted poorly. No doubt some are up for debate, but they don't suck at this point.

If some of you are expecting perfection in the draft process, it isn't going to happen here, or anywhere else.

The only mistake I see that we have made is we put too much faith in the mid round receivers we drafted in 16 and not bring in a drafted receiver last year. That's it. I don't see the crime in that. Live and learn. They didn't develop the way we had hoped.

I just wish there was a way to see what would happen if everything stayed exactly the same, Except Hue, if they made no changes at all except Sit Hue for a while and get in a different head coach,

And see if things get worse, or if they get remarkably better.

This may be impossible to do.

Our defense has given up 30+ points in SIX different games this season, we lead the league (from the bottom) in Giveaways and are 26th worst in Takeaways.... I'm not really sure that Peyton Manning and Brett Favre in their primes combined could have gotten us 3 or 4 wins, lol!

It's not a cop out; it's truth and a fair bit of tongue-in-cheek.

As for Detroit? My guess is that they turn right around and ram it down our throats and score and we wouldn't be able to stop them.

The talent on this team is overall too young. And what I'm saying is that there is not enough veteran leadership in those older players...and that isn't just a blaming Farmer. Just we also decided to release some dead wood instead of keeping them.

Dansby, Haden, a few others.

We also stayed away from overpriced veteran FA's that would have helped this team.

But we have some of the best up and coming talent that I can remember on this team. 2018 will complete year 3 from the draft. We also will pick up some more FAs. We put our chips in this year and the guy turned us down for Safety. That hurt.
But we will try. One thing is for sure we got to start winning games. That has been a dilemma as the talent on the teams adds up to wins. Some amazing things happened again to put us in a loss instead of win.

Kizer's Red Zone record - Completion % 32.14 (48th in the NFL), Inside the 10 29.41%

btw Eli Manning the guy getting benched, 64.71% and inside the 10, 72.22% I wouldn't mind him on our team next year!

We definitely need to upgrade...DBs, WRs and some OL even...The rest needs some depth.

Get this QB thing done right...we got our Playoff Run for quite some time!

jmho

I think Schobert has done a very good job and will just get better. Can we upgrade? Sure we always should upgrade if the BPA is there, Go for it. We need depth I like our starting LB crew. I'm curious on the Iowa kid Jewell for MLB.
Tough to tell college if he has the speed to play in the NFL or not. If that kid has speed he's going to be great. thumbsup

I've been beating the MLB drum for ages, lol..... I've just gotten tired of it, and Collins has been good enough.

Actually, I think we may be Ok at MLB, but we need WILL & SAM that can run with TE's and still come up and be hitters in run support.

Hue Jackson needs to coach his team better

When a head coach is 1-26 in two seasons, I’m not exactly going out on a limb when I say “Hue Jackson needs to coach his team better.” As losses pile up, frustration tends to mount with each press conference that goes by. General statements that were fine when one first became a head coach now draw irritating feelings like, “Oh my god, say something with some substance already.”

Funny enough, Jackson did say something with a little substance in Monday’s press conference, and it ended up drawing even greater ire. If you recall, this past Sunday against the Bengals, Cleveland had the ball at the end of the first half, trailing 16-3. Considering Cincinnati was getting the ball to begin the second half, getting it down to a one-score game (with a touchdown) would have been very valuable.

After already driving, the Browns caught a break after they completed a 24-yard pass to TE Seth DeValve to the 22 yard line. Cleveland had two timeouts, and likely would have burned one of them after the play had Bengals LB Nick Vigil not suffered an ankle injury (which forced Cincinnati to call timeout with 45 seconds to play). 22 yards away from the end zone with two timeouts, Jackson’s coaching mentality should have focused on, “If I call the right plays and use these timeouts effectively, I can maximize our opportunities to get a touchdown.”

It started off OK. Another completion to DeValve — this time for 9 yards — made it 2nd-and-1, and Jackson ran down to call timeout with 0:36 to go, now at the 13 yard line. The next play was an incompletion, lasting 3 seconds. Now it’s 3rd-and-1 with 0:33 to go. CBS cues up the video package to remind us about how QB DeShone Kizer’s quarterback sneak audible against the Lions a few weeks earlier was a disastrous end to the half.

Back to the live action, RB Duke Johnson gets the handoff. He’s hit at the line of scrimmage, but manages to fight his way forward for a first down. The earliest a timeout could’ve been called is with 0:28 left. Instead, the timeout is called with 0:20 left. Eight wasted seconds. That might not seem like a lot in the context of the game, but for anyone who watches the NFL regularly, you know that in two-minute situations, that can lead to two more shots at the end zone.

The argument one could make is that the officials did not signal “first down” until there were 0:22 left on the clock. If it had been fourth down, the right move would have been to let the clock run all the way down and then take a timeout before kicking the field goal. I can see where Jackson was caught in some indecision, but if you really want the touchdown, I say you call the timeout regardless and take your chances. Even if you give the Bengals 20 seconds to put a drive together, you take your chances.

With 0:22 left at the 11 yard line, Kizer threw a pass to WR Corey Coleman for 8 yards. All three receiving routes on the play were run short of the goal line. Cleveland did fine racing up to the line of scrimmage to clock it with 0:05 left. At that point, I agree that you kick the field goal, because it’s hard to know whether a quick pass will be clocked at four seconds or more. But if you think about those eight seconds wasted earlier, that could’ve left the team with 0:13 left. The spike (which may not have been necessary if the team was prepared) would’ve made it third down, so at the very least, you get one shot at the end zone.

Finally, let’s get to what Hue said on Monday about the way it all unfolded:

On if he was hoping to get one more play after WR Corey Coleman’s catch before a try at a field goal at the end of the first half: “No, I was not taking that chance no more (laugher). No, I have already been down that road. We were not. We threw one toward the end zone. I think the play earlier the ball went over (WR) Rashard (Higgins)’s head. We came back and we thought maybe we would get a catch-and-run situation but knew we had time to spike the ball and kick. That is what is was.”

On other NFL teams taking multiple attempts into the end zone in similar situations: “We are not equipped that way.”
If you have inferior talent at certain positions, then a good coach should be able to cover a lot of that up with good play calling and smart decisions. The six words that drew the ire I spoke of earlier were “we are not equipped that way,” in response to being asked about other teams taking multiple shots into the end zone. What is he referring to? Are they not equipped to trust their quarterback because of the gaffe he had against the Lions a few weeks earlier? Are they not equipped with enough red zone threats? Does he not trust his team enough?

I believe it comes down to a season’s worth of bad coaching. It may be true that Kizer made a dumb decision to audible to a quarterback sneak a few weeks ago, but that also tells me that Jackson never hammered the point home to the team that when you have no timeouts and “X” number of seconds left, any play you run has to be thrown in or out of the back of the end zone. That could have become a good teaching opportunity, but instead, the vibe that Jackson gives off is, “We failed once, so instead of coaching our guys up better, we’ll just take a field goal and lessen our chances of winning a game.”

I wouldn’t be writing this if this happened once or twice a season with Jackson, but questionable decisions have happened more times than I can count. It’s been two years, and it’s not getting any better. This is who he is. I’m not saying he can’t win in the NFL or script a good offense when he gets a better quarterback and wide receivers — but he is most certainly a terrible game manager, and if I’m thinking it, you can’t tell me some of the guys in the locker room aren’t thinking it either.

I'll go out on a limb and say the title.

Leaving a lawyer with the final decision on PERSONAL ISSUES makes about as much sense as allowing your garbage man to do your taxes or letting your dog groomer pull a tooth ..

Its MORONIC at best ....

The lawyer is the tie-breaker according to the official stance of the team. If Hue and the FO agree on a player, the lawyer makes it happen...he does not override the wishes of the football people involved...he does not acquire players that the football people do not want.

I know you don't want Sashi to be making final decisions - I don't either - and for the most part he does not make final decisions. If you think someone else should be the tie-breaker...ok...but you are presenting the position as if Sashi makes final decisions based on his evaluation...and that's simply not happening.
