“Pocahontas” Not a Racial Slur, Says Prominent White Expert

—Donald J. Trump’s use of the name “Pocahontas” at a White House event honoring Navajo veterans was not a racial slur, a prominent white expert said on Monday.
“If some Native Americans were offended by the use of this term, I’m sorry that they’re so wrong,” the expert said. “As a white person, I think I’m in a better position to know about this stuff.”
She also defended the decision to honor the Navajo veterans near a portrait of Andrew Jackson, who is widely reviled by Native Americans. “Before we held the ceremony, we consulted with a number of other white experts, and we all agreed that Andrew Jackson was great,” she said.
At times, the white expert seemed exasperated at having to explain to Native Americans what was a racial slur and what was not. “Look, I can explain it to them, but it’s real time-consuming, and I have a lot of other stuff to do,” she said.
In closing, the Caucasian said that accusing Trump of intentionally offending the Navajos was absurd. “No one knows more about offending people than Donald Trump,” she said.

lol what a horrible thing to say. American Indian boarding schools is a pretty horrific thing in US history. Forcibly removing children from their tribes, forbidding them to participate in their culture (Often times renaming the kids), and forced anglosaxon culture onto them. They're very rarely considered successful. But, if we insist that someone should go to this school, maybe that person should be Trump. The dude has never shown respect for the office and barely does now.

Here's the problem. Some far-left progressive views are indistinguishable from satire. Sometimes we come across material about smashing the white, cis, heteropatriarchy and various odd interpretations about safe spaces and microaggressions. I, Haus, do solemnly swear, that occasionally I literally do not know whether such a person is an honest progressive, or a sneaky right-wing prankster trying to make progressives look bad.

Granted, in this particular case, I sniffed out the satire as I read it. It was slightly over the top. The key word there is slightly-- it was not that far away from how some progressives actually talk. For example, I can't tell you how many times I've been told that because I am white, there is no way I can understand such and such minority issue. It is understandable how someone could have read that the wrong way, especially as satire is easily lost in writing.

I agree, just yesterday I saw a feminist post that if a innocent man lost his job to fake sexual harassment allegations, it would not be of any concern and would be deserving basically. So see and agree with what you said.

You all fired that white lady who identified as black while running the NAACP in the Northwest but you turn a blind eye to a white senator who identifies as Native American and rode that pony to Harvard and beyond.

I came across that as well. It is disturbing that some people think it is acceptable for somebody to be fired for fake harassment claims.

In the meantime, the Greg Schiano situation unfolded in Tennessee. That wasn't even a harassment claim. It was a claim that he knew about despicable things going on, and that was based on an unchallenged account of a second-hand conversation from a quarter century ago. Madness.

It was great to see Urban stand up for him. You are right, it is getting out of hand. Dang be the truth if optics are involved.

If you think about it, Warren is the actual racist here. She claimed to be something she wasn't, and took money and opportunity away from those it was meant for. She used an entire people to further her education and career, and has never been remorseful or apologetic for her lies.
