Wondering if anyone else has a home theater setup in their house. I'm sure we have some dawgs here who do. I'm almost wrapped up with mine. It's not terribly crazy (some folks will spend 15k+ on a dedicated room) but I'm enjoying it right now. Installing the projector required me adding a new outlet to the existing circuit, which is always fun to do.

Specs:
Epson 5040ub 4K (Faux K) projector
120" Projector Screen
Sony DTR 5.2 Surround Sound
Polk Bookshelf speakers for discrete channels
1 12" Polk Subwoofer
1 10" Polk Subwoofer
Logi Harmony Hub for system control
Wemo Smart Light Dimmer
Amazon Echo Dot for voice control of Harmony and Wemo
Xbox One S (Soon to be One X)
Nvidia Shield

The Echo is great because I can just say "Alexa turn off the media room lights" and the room goes dim without me having to get off the couch! Great little device. The speakers I've had for years, so I will likely upsize the front stage to add more depth in the future.

Does anyone else have a cool setup to share?

Some pictures:

Nice setup! Do you like your Onkyo? That looks like a killer receiver.

I love that receiver. It's built like a... Well it's solid! I do wish it would do a 5.2.4 setup as I'd love to have front heights in my atmos mix. At the time however, the move up to have those two extra speakers almost doubled the price.

This receiver really shines when I'm playing LP's.

Don't have a home theater, but I just purchased a Samsung 65in 8500 curved screen. 4K HDR.

I cant imagine having a better picture than is on there.

Good unit! My TV before going to the projector was a Samsung 8500 Plasma 64". Still a great TV to watch movies on, the black levels are crazy good.

Idon't get into all the techno crap. I got a 70 inch Vizio with surround sound in my bedroom and the screen is 9 feet away from my face. I have a 65 inch Vizio in my living room once again 9 feet from my face with surround sound and all the speakers. I have 50 inches in the basement to watch while doing laundry, 42 inches in my office, and 32 inches in our spare bedroom. All TV's have sound bars.

I AM ALWAYS RIGHT... except when I am wrong.

Nothing nearly as fancy here but it still sounds great.
55” Sony Bravia
Yamaha HTR-5830 5.1 (this is old equipment that I’d really like to replace, but I’m cheap)
Polk TSi300 Towers up front
Polk CS10 Center
Polk OWM3 rear speakers
Yamaha YST-SWO11 subwoofer (see above remark about my receiver/amp)

I used to have a big setup at my old house. Gave it all to my son (he's got it setup in his area of the house now) and went with a cleaner look in the new house and made the basement more of a game room. Was a Denon receiver, Polk Audio speakers/sub. Ditched the projector (left it at the old house).

My new setup is all Sonos and I love it. 2 Play 1's as surround, Sonos sub and a Playbar. Super clean installation. I've got 3 other play 1's around the house and a play 3. I'm a huge fan of Sonos now, especially since it is integrated into Alexa. The sub is behind the TV and I recessed the cable box into the wall above the TV. The Playbar is below it on the mantle.

Since you mentioned voice control, something else I'm really into now is home automation - it's become quite a hobby of mine. I'm using a VeraPlus (though if I was to do it again I'd get a Samsung SmartThings, but I was an early adaptor with home automation and I've had some form of Vera for over 4 years now so I stuck with it) and have about 40 light switches, all of the door locks, garage door, alarm, cameras, 4 ceiling fans, driveway sensor (my driveway is 1/8 mile long, it's nice to know when people pull in it), smoke/C02 alarms, water leak detection in the basement, 2 thermostats and my landscape lighting. It is completely integrated with Alexa (which I have a dot in just about every room) so I can say things like "Alexa turn on family room fan to 50%" or "Alexa turn on garage light". You can make scenes in it as well, so I've got it when I unlock a door using the keypad on the door it disarms the alarm. Landscape lights come on at sunset (a setting) and turn off at sunrise. It is incredibly cool and fun to tinker with, at least for me.

Game room at the new house, no home theater which I'm not minding:

Amazing work!

I would love to do smart switches. I'd just have to do some research because my house has low voltage relay switches, not line voltage toggle switches. I was able to put a smart dimmer in my basement because that renovation was done last year, so it was on a usual line/load dimmer.

Yeah, that would be a pain. My new house is wired to perfection for home automation. I can get a switch installed in about 5-10 minutes, maybe 20 minutes if it is a 3 way. I've got another 10 switches purchased, just need to find time to install - 20 more to go and I'll have the whole house done.

And thanks jay and 3rd, I'd like to say I did it myself, but it was finished when I bought the house. The really nice thing is that they dug the basement deeper so it has 9ft ceilings in the basement. It's roughed in for a bathroom that I may tackle this winter if I can find the time. Didn't have a pic of my Brown's wall, not much but I do love my WMMS Art Model middle finger smile

Big fan of Sonos as well.

I got the Playbase, the sub and two Play1's for my Samsung 65". Beautiful sound.

I also have two Play3's I've yet to setup (just bought on Black Friday - $50 off each!).

Wireless is the way to go (signal goes over the wi-fi, not Bluetooth).

Only a fist indentation/hole in the drywall could make it tie into your design aesthetic stronger.

WOW!

Thanks folks. Yeah, there have been a few beverages consumed down there...especially while watching our team stink it up. smile

If I only knew how to link FB pics, I could post them here but they don't seem to use the normal .jpg extensions.

Very nice! Is your wine room temperature controlled at all? I've just got a 250 bottle Eurocav wine refrigerator, but have thought about making a cellar in some of the extra storage area I have in my basement. Probably not as big as the wine bar you have, but something along those lines.

Thanks. The basement stays around 64 degrees year round naturally (so nice in the summer) but we do have a 30 bottle wine fridge for the sweet/white ones.

Ha Ha! My oldest son had his Boy Scout cross-over event a while back and the theme was old west/cowboy. Honestly, not my normal style but we are certainly a very American family!

I keep all of my wine at 52-55 and chill the whites when I drink them (very rarely, typically with seafood). My concern is more in the winter when I have the heat on, the basement gets pretty warm as the furnace is close and the heat doesn't have far to travel in the ductwork. Summer it is fairly cool in the basement, though I've got a few bottles I don't even want to get to the mid 60's.

Yeah, I hear ya. You don't want to let them get too warm. But for me, I like my dry reds at slightly lower than room temp so right around 63-64 is perfect. The whites I like chilled.

The beer kegs in the keezer are kept at 40 degrees with a freezer that has a temperature control system on it.
