Maybe they are just trying to make sure Eli doesn't waste his health on a garbage season so he has a better chance to be healthy and well rested for next season. Meanwhile it's time to let some of the benchwarmers get some playing time to improve them for next season.
I think people are making too much out of this.

You do realize that you're promoting an aging veteran who is losing his skills as nothing more than a temporary band aid as the answer to our QB needs, right?
Of course I do understand that Browns fans are desperate.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Sorry for Manning and losing his streak. But never was a McAdoo fan. What is a Reese?
Eli brings a bunch o'heart to the game table. But to put him on the pine for Geno? Somebody needs their head examined IMO. He starts. Is he trade bait? Going to be cut EOS?

Hey, if you think signing a band aid is the answer, you go boy! lol But you might want to look at how this team is being built before you actually believe there's a chance in hell that happens. We're the youngest team in the league that's being built in the draft. That doesn't bode well for signing an aging vet nearing the end of his career. That's not how any of this works.

... signing an aging vet nearing the end of his career. But, IMHO, that is exactly what we need. Give us 2 or 3 years of competent performance while Kizer (and the expected drafted QB) learn the ropes.

But at what cost? You see, there will be a team or two that believe signing Eli will be exactly what they need to put them over the top. To that or those teams, Eli is worth a fortune to them. We are nowhere close to being in that position.
Needing a mentor for young QB's is certainly a need. Needing to pay in excess of 12 to 15 million dollars a year to accomplish that isn't needed.

If Manning were inclined to come here and mentor Kizer and the drafted rook, I'd be onboard with that. I just don't see Manning seeing us as an option.
I hope, if McCown retires, we really make a push to bring him in here as a coach. That would also help us immensely and I have huge respect for him as a guy who puts the team above himself. I think any young QB would benefit from his influence.

If Manning didn't see San Diego as an option, I highly doubt that he'd see us as an option...even now.

One is a QB in his prime. The other is a QB in the twighlight of his career. HUGE difference.

One is a QB in his prime. The other is a QB in the twighlight of his career. HUGE difference. Of course there is. I only want 2 or 3 years of quality play, so I'll go with the vet. This is assuming we draft another QB and there would not be enough play for 3 QB's to further their development. Thus the vet...

I guess you just nailed the actual difference in our opinions. I don't believe Eli has two or three years of "quality play" left. Usually, when QB's drop off, they drop off fast. I think Eli dropped off this year in terms of quality play.
No big deal. We just see Eli differently as it pertains to the QB we see in him at this point.

Wasn't RGIII's contract worth 15mil?

Well that's not my fault. lol
And he certainly didn't have the experience to be a mentor for younger QB's.
