'Price is Right' for Drew Carey By DAVID BAUDER, AP Television Writer 6 minutes ago NEW YORK - Genial comic Drew Carey was tapped Monday to replace silver-haired legend Bob Barker on the CBS daytime game show "The Price is Right." The deal was set Monday afternoon shortly before a taping of CBS' "Late Show" with David Letterman, where he confirmed it. "I realize what a big responsibility this is," he said. "It's only a game show, but it's the longest-running game show in American television and I plan to keep it that way." The selection attracted more attention than usual for a daytime show because of the prospect of replacing Barker, 83. Barker retired after 35 years in the job last month following taping of his 6,586th episode. The opening attracted widespread interest, including from comic Rosie O'Donnell after she left "The View." Carey, 49, spent a decade on his own ABC sitcom and also was host of the improvisational game show "Whose Line is It Anyway?" He will also be host of a new CBS prime-time game show, "The Power of 10," that will air first next month. He told The Associated Press on Monday that CBS officials first contacted him about "The Price is Right" immediately after he completed a pilot of the other game show this spring. "My agent called me and said `I was talking to CBS casting today' and in my head I was thinking, `Oh, `CSI' guest star?' And he said what would you think about replacing Bob Barker on `The Price is Right?'" Asked if he found the prospect of replacing such a TV legend daunting, Carey recalled talking to a friend who knows the game show business who told him, "as long as Bob Barker is cool with it, the fans will be cool with it." While he doesn't know Barker, Carey said he's comfortable that his predecessor will be accepting. The negotiation process was nerve-racking. While he was talking with CBS about the job, Carey said he got a call from another lawyer in Hollywood who told him one of his clients was offered "The Price is Right" job. He figured CBS had lined up back-ups if the first choice did not come through. "If I was going after a second baseman, I wouldn't just talk to one second baseman," the Cleveland Indians fan said. "If I were the general manager, I would be talking to a few second basemen."

Well, if he's a success with the TPIR, he'll probably never get another big part in a movie/show. It's kind of thing you wish him luck with....but not too much.

Two words: "Ewwww-wwww"
Better than Rosie, but still. The show doesn't need stupid jokes and an accordian theme song. The Bob is like everybody's grandpa. This guy doesn't give me that vibe. JMHO.

NO, he's not everyone's grandpa. He's more like your drinking buddy.

I think it just might work out, hmmmm. Following Bob is tough, though. Bob let the contestants and the games be the centre of attention and I hope Drew doesn't get too carried away with the jokes and stuff. I work afternoon shifts now and watch Price is Right all the time, like I did growing up.

I think Drew will be good for this show...because he isn't the stereotypical stuck-up star. He has always been good with the people he works with spending ALOT of money for trips and stuff for his people...I agree that if he lets the contestants be the star...he will be just fine.
I thought I was wrong once....but I was mistaken...

Thank God my grandpa's were nothing like Bob Barker, otherwise I would have never spent much time with them.

Ack, I can't think of a worse person to host The Price Is Right. Drew Carey is horrible...he has no charm, no personality, and he's totally NOT funny (even though he thinks he is). Ick.

Well, loopy, a lot of people think Drew IS funny. No matter who the replacement was gonna be, they'd be scrutinized.

It's a good thing that Steeler fans don't make any of these decisions.
They're all mildly retarded.

Yeah....they should've picked this guy. Pittsburgh's funniest comedian ever! Says so right on his website.

I think that's great for Drew. Ain't nothin' wrong with a Kent State and Cleveland boy getting a gig like this.
Everyone's going to compare him to Bob Barker, but at least give him a fair shake. The show will probably be different, but that doesn't mean it can't be good.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

Congrats to Drew. I think he'll do a great job. CBS pursued him big time so they must think he'll be a good fit.

Drew and I have mutual friends...and I think this is a great move for Drew and The Price is Right.
David Kaye and I ARE good friends...and its Hilarious to me his pic ended up in the Browns Forum.
David Kaye and I bumped into each other just by random a few months ago during the Big Brother auditions at the House of Blues....David was over at Hilarities that week...and strangely enough...saw the audition was going on while he was watching "The Price is Right"...and just walked over to give it a try.

Is he related to Danny Kaye at all? Looks like a minor resemblance there.

My disdain for Drew Carey has nothing to do with the fact that he is from Cleveland. Why even bring it up?
Unless you only like him because he's from Cleveland...THAT would be understandable.

Couldn't be happier for Drew, he is a great guy, and a great supporter of Cleveland. I think he will do great on this show, he is very likable.
