I haven't heard much about him. He had to step in to some pretty big shoes when Joe went down, and the kid has stepped up.

He may never be a all-pro, but he will be able to play as long as his body holds up and he has the desire to play.


We aren't getting killed out there because of his play. Spencer is doing a good job.

I agree. I thought he would get destroyed, but he is playing pretty good.

I must admit, I was dead wrong about him. When JT went down, I was convinced the season was doomed. I thought Drango was 100% a guard in the NFL. Didn't think he had a great body type for tackle, nor the athleticism. He's been fantastic, though, and he keeps getting better each week.

He struggled a little against Jacksonville in the face of their speed rushers, but overall, I haven't seen anything to suggest he doesn't have a bright future. Certainly could be the heir apparent to JT if he keeps playing at this level.

I like the position we're in. Drango, Coleman and Johnson are exciting young tackles who've flashed a lot of ability.

Glad you started this thread. I had a question about Drango and and was looking for a place to ask it.

Without question, Drango has played well. Before the season started, I anticipated wanting to draft a LT in round 2 as a future replacement for Joe Thomas. My question is: Has Drango played well enough that we can consider him to be JT's future replacement or do we still have to look for someone?

That is a very hard question and I have no idea what the answer is.

I am glad we have Dorsey to think through that decision, though.

Well the short answer is nobody can replace JT.

That said, I'm a little less worried going into next year than I have been the last few years where I thought "If Joe goes down we're screwed.

Talent aside, I’m sure he’s got the greatest lineman ever to take the field in his ear ona regular basis coaching him up.

Maybe someone else has watched the line play closer than I do; are we sacrificing the TE much more often than when Joe was playing to help out with the edge rush?

No, our TE's are still mostly lining up on the right side, just as most teams do............despite what some posters who hate Hue say.

Just poking fun. Our season was doomed from the start, but that is not on Drango. Pleased with his play.

It doesn't hurt that the rest of our offensive line is pretty good.

Good point. My question might be premature at the moment but it is a question that will need to be answered. And I think it needs to be answered leading into this draft.

Hahaha. Good point. I'll take the opportunity to rephrase, "I thought we'd be purchasing a burial plot for Deshone Kizer."

Surprisingly, he's been kept pretty damn clean. It's showed in the second half of the season, with Kizer's passer rating jumping 23.6, his completion percentage jumped 5.1%, his yards per attempt are up 1.56 yards per attempt, he's already got more touchdowns and half as many interceptions with three games left. That's a pretty incredible leap over the course of a season.

Not saying that's all on Drango/the OL, but this OL has held up well enough for his level of play to improve.

The running game has also enjoyed a healthy bump in the second half of the season.

First 8 games - 136 attempts, 527 yards, 3.8 average.
The 5 games since - 103 attempts, 474 yards, 4.6 average.

Again, not saying that's all on Drango/the OL, but they've undoubtedly contributed to that increased success.

It's a nice reminder that, in spite of our record, this is an unfathomably young team who is showing some signs of life in terms of their growth. Guys like Spencer Drango make it a little easier to stomach the now when the indications of the future remain bright.

Drango has been outstanding given the circumstances. He seems to be more nimble than I would have believed (looks more compact, like a guard) but he has usually given Kizer more than enough time. However he’s tall enough at 6-6 to be considered and I would now see him as heir apparent to JT. Hopefully in 5 years

Interesting, because no credit is given to this FO for fixing the mess they created in the OL.

Not that I am an FO fan, but what they did with the OL and DL was good work.

Also interesting to see how some fans who have always been vocal about the importance of the trenches are now using the no talent excuse for the teams performance...

I was waiting to see how long it would take before someone turned this into another FO vs Hue thread. We don't have enough of those.

I was waiting to see how long it would take Vers to jump on here and deflect any developing praise for a FO that plucked a guy from the 5th Rd out of Baylor who played very well for 3/4 of the season filling in at G as a rookie - after being a T throughout college - and is now playing quite well at T...no..make that LEFT T. All just in his second year in the league after taking over for a living legend.

I forgot who said it,, might have been someone on here. But if you don't hear an Olinemens name mentioned, he's probably doing a good job.

Yeah, it took you like 20 seconds. You'll get better with all the practice your getting though.

Drango is has rarely been noticed while stepping into Joe Thomas's shoes. Thats all that needs to be said.
