Browns Alter Winslow's Roster Status By Site Staff Posted Jul 24, 2007 The move provides a possible indication that Winslow will not practice during the early days of training camp. League sources have informed The Orange and Brown Report that the team has officially changed Kellen Winslow's roster status to "Active/Physically Unable to Perform". According to Scout.com's Adam Caplan, Winslow can be removed from this status at any time up until the point that final rosters are set. At that point, the team would have to remove him from PUP status, or he would not be able to play for the first six weeks of the season. At present, though, the designation opens up an additional roster spot on the team. Speculating, the roster status change likely means that Winslow won't be used in the opening days of training camp, and the Browns wish to use another roster spot either to evaluate a player or bring in another tight end to run plays starting on Friday. The OBR's Lane Adkins comments that the status change "comes as no surprise, as Winslow was to be limited at best in the beginning stages of training camp". http://browns.scout.com/2/661186.html

Seems like a good move.
The coaches know what Winslow can do and that he's gonna be ready for week 1, no need to rush him back.
This gives another guy a shot.

I saw that somewhere else and posted in the TE thread 30 minutes ago.....but this is the official release.
Mostly a administrative move as I see it.
I think everything is on track and set for Winslow opening day.

LOL.....we can do much, but there isn't any hoping that guy will bust.
All one can hope is he gets hurt or suspended.....but who in their right mind is going to hope that??

Well if those both happen, then Phil Savage will be out of a job. Maybe then we can go after Matt Millen

I'll second that. ...and now my son wants one.
Although we're upset with 'motorcycles', it's actually the maturity of the individual that caused the problem. He wasn't hurt because someone didn't notice a motorcyle on the street. He was hurt because he was acting like an immature dope....and he's gotten a couple of penalties on the field because of immaturity. I guess I don't like him too much...because we needed him...we needed some success from a first round pick...and he cheated us out of a substantial amount of first round production.

You definitely have a point, Vette... and I totally understand your view. In order to get a handle on him, I tried to look at this kid in a different way- not from the point-of-view of a disappointed fan, but from the perspective of when I was his age. I was pretty brash and cocky when I was his age- some of it was what I believed to be self-deserved, and some was a reaction to being the very-public son of a very accomplished father... one who had the name first.
See- I was named after my father too, and that does something to a young man. (Everyone out there who shares his name with his Old Man knows exactly what I'm talking about.) Sometimes, it can motivate him to acheive beyond his normal potential. Sometimes, it has the opposite effect... and young men do stupid things when in that midset. Usually, both those aspects reside within the same individual, and come out at different times. (Confidence and bravado are kissing cousins on the human personality scale... flip sides of the same coin, if you ask me.)
I have scars on my body that remind me of the time in my life when I stayed out too late, drank too much, and drove my Triumph too hard. (I was lucky... in some ways luckier than K2... my career isn't isn't compromised by my injuries, and my job isn't nearly as high-profile to begin with.)
Long story short- the accident was the alarm clock, but it still took me a couple years to fully "wake up." When I did, I started making better choices, and getting better results. It was a nasty chapter to endure, but that experience, humbling as it was, made me a better person. I think I see the same process happening with young Kellen, as he gets farther beyond that nasty chapter in his book.
Even though he's pissed us off, disappointed us, and had us shaking our heads, there's something about the kid that makes me think he's gonna be alright. He'll grow, accept his gifts, and finally get over himself.
We all remember what a class act K1 was... and that influence is in there, somewhere. Sooner or later, it'll come out.
It worked for me. Just wish Pops was here to see it.

Good post clem, very heartfelt. I got two Browns jerseys TC and KJ....the next one I buy will be #80. I don't pimp him a lot on here, but KW2 is my favourite Brown right now. His two years out of football, with all he had to endure, humbled him a bit IMO (and I think a lot of people took his "I'm a soldier" comments after a tough loss in college, when he was 20! and ran with it). I wasn't that warm to him at first and like some was POed after the bike crash, but I remember in the spring of 2006, the Browns' main website posted a video of him being interviewed, and he talked about liking Metallica, and that he enjoyed singing, but when the interviewer asked him to sing, he got "stagefright"... seemed humble and shy. I don't think it was an act. I don't believe he's an "actor' as far as putting on airs, or trying to be nice, if you know what I mean. I think he lays himself on the line sometimes in interviews, just like when he's playing football. Wears his heart on his sleeve, in other words. I like KW2 a lot, never met him never been within 1,000 miles of him probably. I think he's got the heart of a lion, though, and from a distance Kellen seems like a good kid. No one probably remembers, but when he tied Ozzie's reception mark last year I started a "congrats" thread because I felt good for him. Besides, he "punked" Joey Porter, and that was sweet too.

K2 was the one I was praying we'd get in the 2004 draft, when we got him I was extremely happy, his jersey was my first Browns jersey, and he was my favorite player instantly when we drafted him, I took alot of from people for supporting him, so when he did amazing in 2006 I was verrrrrry happy, I know hes a good player he just needs to stay healthy.

I understand that. They're all just kids...and human beings...and all that tender caring stuff...(which is why I had/have such a tender spot for Courtney Brown...because he IS such a nice guy). But in the end, I am what I am...I'm a dissapointed fan. And at the risk of sounding like Ballpeen, the players are just commodities...and this commodity cheated me out of earnings.
...and God bless Pops. I'm certain he's proud.
