Corporations do it, calling it lobbying. According to the law corporations are people too. So why can’t Rosie? Or any other person do it? It’s obvious our government is open for business. Just look at the recent tax bill and who funded congress to pass it. Last I checked her twitter was not listed as a corporation, nor registered to abide by campaign finance laws. So your analogy is thin to say the least. If she would like to register as a lobbyist by all means, however she is not. So she is breaking laws. Next. Not only is that illegal but she will probably face charges from Trump's AG. Openly attempting to bribe a Senator, who does that... You have to whisper in their ear and send the money to there campaign via a super pac like normal people.

Wall Street falls slightly after Congress passes tax bill https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-s...l-idUSKBN1EE1JA Only 28 points but I expected a new all time high? Wonder what they are thinking on Wall Street? Maybe it's time to take the air out of the bubble and put the money on main street... lol, what am I smoking?

With Tax Reform, AT&T Plans to Increase U.S. Capital Spending $1 Billion and Provide $1,000 Special Bonus to more than 200,000 U.S. EmployeesToday, Congress approved legislation representing the first comprehensive tax reform in a generation. The President is expected to sign the bill in the coming days. Once tax reform is signed into law, AT&T* plans to invest an additional $1 billion in the United States in 2018 and pay a special $1,000 bonus to more than 200,000 AT&T U.S. employees — all union-represented, non-management and front-line managers. If the President signs the bill before Christmas, employees will receive the bonus over the holidays. http://about.att.com/story/att_tax_reform.htmlIt begins. FedEx to hire more employees due to tax reform - TRICKLE IT DOWN BABY You only posted part of the details. This is only IF the tax reform lifts the GDP materially. It is also likely that the majority of the jobs would be package reltatd and wages for these roles range from about $12/hr (most jobs) to $19/hr (approx $24k-$38k yearly). It'd be a nice start if the GDP lifts materially, but $24k is hardly middle class.

Health ins companies already have dropped selling individual insurance of any kind at all.
What is Trump gonna do about that?
I tried to buy ins there was literally only 2 companies left selling here.
And they both suck ass.

i dunno.
it's funny how they made sure to sneak their backdoor repeal of the ACA in there.
if they would've spent the last 6 years fixing and tweaking the plan like a good government would and should do, while the cost of healthcare would've still rose due to the fact that there's pretty much no regulations on drug prices and such, at least there would be plenty of places to purchase a plan from.
now, insurance companies are under zero pressure to lower cost, as well as add people with pre-existing conditions, unless those people are willing to pay out the ass for coverage.
but hey, at least corporations that make billons get....more billions?

I do not have a liberal bone in my body.
But I am voting Dem for the unforseen future.
Until this ish gets sorted.
If Dems won't fix it. Then I have no idea what happens.

if the dems take congress back in 2018, it's still gonna be painful.
the GOP rolled a tax bill and repeal of the ACA all in one. something tells me the Dems will be forced to make it two separate bills.
regardless on the fact that it should've been two separate bills to begin with.
honestly this situation is gonna be ugly until 2020, depending on how everything goes.
people like to say "well, once you give people entitlements and benefits, nobody wants to give it up".
the same works both ways. once you give rich dicks massive tax cuts, they don't wanna give it up.
so i dunno, eve. we will see what goes down. i'm not optimistic.

Yeah, it's gonna be really difficult. Considering the rich dicks have Congress as their pets.
I think bad days are coming for everyone.
It's gonna be the elite and big business keeping us all down.
For quite a while. And I don't know what the answer is.
It's all rather shocking for me. I'm the sort of person the GOP would want to appeal to, and they threw me right under the bus.
There isn't anyone that represents me in government anymore, and I don't know what to do about it.

I decided to sit back and learn in this thread.
Tax law isn't a central issue for me, so there was no reason to blast my (uninformed) opinion into a subject that matters more to others.
Eyes = opened.
This conversation of yours was a great 'ground level view' of how this tax overhaul is directly effecting people I know and care about. That insight is going to carry a shtlode more weight with me than any op-ed I read online or have shouted at me on TV.
Still in learn mode. Gonna start looking at how my crap changes when I get some time off.
Thanks for the ongoing back&forth.

hey man, with all the knowledge you've dropped on us, it's finally nice to pay it back!!
i'm not that much knowledgeable on taxes than anyone else, but when it comes to public policies, most of us aren't. we take the main topics, sprinkle in some "hey, this is interesting", and roll with it.

<3 Thanks. I'm feeling a little raw, right now, because ground zero on a lot of these issues coming up. Healthcare, taxes, net neutrality are make or break time for me.

This is going to be unrelated, but related...
A long time ago, I used to be an internet radio broadcaster.
And had fun with that for a number of years.
Then big media stepped in, and paid off the CRB (govt judges), with the help of the RIAA, and SoundExchange... they squashed all of us internet radio broadcasters...the indie people...
Pretty much anymore you have to be a big company with super deep pockets to be able to stream tunes for the public, legally.
Because they decided internet radio broadcasters have to pay royalties for every song that is played and every person that listens to it.
Who on earth can track that, much less pay it? Not us indie people. Only the big guys.
And the sad part is, I had sooooooo many indie bands contacting me, wanting air time, which I gave them. And now they have no outlet. It's just all around dumb and wrong. Keep down the little guy.
We protested. But they destroyed us.
So this net neutrality is all of that, for me, all over again.
And the taxes, and the healthcare.
I just can't even....anymore...
If things work out for my business.....fine...
If not...I will hurl myself off a cliff. Or retire. And give the bird to the world. Because the govt deserves it.

Super cool post Clem. Something to consider, but it'll take up a ton of time, is to skim through the bill. Not necessarilty the legalese version, but the mostly English version if it at the link below. https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/4330089/Joint-Explanatory-Statement.pdfSkim the parts that says "Present Law" and determine if that is something of interest to you. If it is, scroll down in that section until you see the "Conference Agreement" area within that law and you can see what the change is to current law (if any, a surprising number of the things we've read about are not included). It may refer to the Senate or House Amendment, which will require a little more reading. BUT, this might help with understanding the bill more. I skipped almost all of the business items mainly because I wanted to know about the housing impacts, and the teacher deduction for a friend. This being said, I read most of the non business ones and it took me about 2 1/2 hours to get through it all on my phone, I'd bet I could do it in less than 2 on my computer. I recommend everyone do it, just because knowledge is a good thing and everyone is reading the same thing without left or right bias from their favorite news (or "news") sources.

J/C USA TODAY - Companies to give bonus' / raises Some of the cash windfall from corporate tax cuts is already trickling downto Main Street workers. Trickle Down never happens...... So we have Comcast going to invest 50 BILLION, as well as give 1,000 to their employees ATT investing 1 BILLION, giving employees 1,000 First Third Bank raising their min wage to 15/hour, as well as giving a 1,000 - Wells Fargo doing the same Boeing investing 300 million etc etc.

I'm asking my boss for a raise today to cover the cost of my tax increases in 2019. I implore every working class employee to do the same. I haven't had one since starting this job nearly 4 years ago. I'll let you know how it went.

“Last month a Wall Street Journal editor asked a room full of CEOs to raise their hands if the corporate tax cut being considered in Congress would lead them to invest more. Very few hands went up,” Bloomberg wrote in a Bloomberg op-ed. “Attending was Gary Cohn, President Donald Trump's economic adviser and a friend of mine. He asked: ‘Why aren't the other hands up?’ https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bloombe...-dollar-blunder

Laughing while reading all the tears of the Liberal Democrats who had zero input into this Bill as they decided not to participate.
Laughing while reading all the tears of those who have zero representation in Washington as they all have focused on hating Trump.
Happy with the fact that in spite of their childishness, America is once again open for business!

This is just the start of companies handing out bonuses, raising wages and increasing spending-Expect a stampede of companies handing out bonuses, raising pay, spending on capital projects and giving to charities, with the windfall from the newly passed corporate tax cuts. -AT&T, Comcast and a handful of companies said they would use tax reform to give money to their employees and increase capital spending. -Wells Fargo and Fifth Third said they would raise their minimum wage. Analysts expect other banks to follow, as well as other companies that will get a boost from the tax law changes. https://www.cnbc.com/2017/12/20/this-is-just-the-start-of-companies-increasing-spending.htmlMaking America Great Again

Congrats. Don't get all butt hurt when the Dems do the same to the current Dumass in the WH.

Unless you're in the top 1% it's not going to benefit you much. You will see some benefits in the beginning but over the next 10 years middle class and lower income taxes are going up to pay for the super wealthy's and coperate tax cut.
Also, millions of people are going to lose their health insurance because since they repealed the mandate, insurance companies don't have to cover high cost patients anymore.
