I know our best chance (so far) came against a Packers team sans Aaron Rodgers... but this Bears game is the one I had circled on my calendar as being our best chance to win. I think if our defense can have their best game of the season, they should be able to throttle the Bears O. A quick score for us MIGHT have Hue run the ball a bunch... which greatly increases our chances.

Anyone have the story on the Bears defense?

Hue Jackson's last two wins as a head coach have come on Christmas Eve.

Bears are 3-0 this years against the AFC North.

Trubisky dinks and dunks all day long against the Browns like Hundley did.

Bears defense frazzles Kizer.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Kizer benched at some point during this game if he continues to turn the ball over. This is really the only "winnable" game left and I'd suspect desperate measures may be taken to avoid 0-16.

If we go 0 - 16 ... the thief gets exactly what he deserves ... EXACTLY what he deserves .... instead of being THRILLED with a win ... i’d be like .. “well its about time” and not even care ...

I had high hopes when Jimmy bought the team, but no doubt this hasn't worked.
At this point it would be kind of cool to see Hue not win a game in his 2nd sesson. I don't care if we win or not.

Gregg Williams will cost us this game by playing his corners 7 yards back the entire game. Trubisky will beat us like Hundley did, by making very easy passes that shouldn't be allowed in the pro game.

Haslam is certainly the root cause for all of this.

I fear the Browns will never turn it around under his ownership.

They will throw the game, just so we can save face... That's the only way we win a game this season.

Every time there has been a press conference after Haslam just fired someone he always takes the blame and says it's his fault. And then he doesn't change the structure of the organization.

It's because he is a scam artist. He offers apologies in the hopes that sympathetic types will continue to throw away their hard earned money on his defective product. Big promises, little in return. Banks the cash. Rinse and repeat. The NFL needs to fire him for detrimental performance and the effect it has had on the NFL and the city of Cleveland. Hate is a strong word but I do detest this SOB. If he left town I wouldn't be sad at all.

A Bear's player promised a win so maybe that will motivate the Browns. This maybe the best change to avoid 0-16 and joining the Detroit Lions in disgrace.

Josh Sitton, LG, seems likely to miss the game with an ankle injury. He is the Bears best OL, with a PFF grade of 86, making him PFF's #4 guard. The Bears list their back-up LG as Cameron Lee, an UDFA on his 3rd team, who was recently promoted from the practice squad.

With any luck, the Bears will play him. At 6'6", he'll likely struggle with a smaller, stouter Danny Shelton. It will be hard for Cody Whitehair (C) to provide too much assistance, as Tom Compton (RG) is the Bears weakest member of the OL, with a PFF grade of just 43.8, ranking him in at #53 for guards. Compton has also been limited this week with a concussion, but being only limited suggests he may yet play.

Cody Whitehair is a talented C, #10 per PFF, can't double up both, so the interior should be a place of weakness, especially with Williams being such a proponent of calling blitzing.

Their tackles are scary. Bobby Massie has a PFF grade of 71.1, ranked him at #37. Charles Leno comes in at 82.0, the #11 tackle. Myles Garrett will have his work cut out for him, and we've not seen a whole lot of pressure coming from the LDE position to capitalize on Massie's lesser status than Leno.

Pressuring Trubisky will be key, as usual for any young quarterbacks. Speaking of which; PFF also makes an exciting point that should work in Kizer's favour.



Most important, in my opinion, will be to shut down the run. The Browns can't let the Bears excellent rushing offense. They average 118 yards per game, 10th in the NFL, on 26.9 attempts per game, which is only 17th. That 4.4 average is 8th in the NFL.

A lot of what they do on the ground is dependant on hitting the edge. Between Cohen and Howard, they like to stretch the field, so we're going to need our ends to set the edge better than they've done thus far. I don't think it's been a disaster, but it has been an issue in spots.

Forcing them to pass should be a blessing. Yes, the Browns have the worst pass defense in the NFL, but the Bears are 25th in passer rating, 28th in touchdowns, 25th in YPA, 31st in passing yards, tied 7th in most interceptions and 15th in times sacked.

Williams, for once, has to cover the short game. Trubisky will happily dink and dunk all day. Actually forcing him to hold the ball, go through progressions and make tight window throws downfield is where he struggles. For once, Williams has to stop playing 95% of the defense snaps at least 60 yards away from the line of scrimmage. Okay, hyperbole, but only a little bit.

Kizer, I have hopes he'll have a really good game.

Adrian Amos, PFF's #2 S, will be healthy but Will Fuller (PFF's #55 CB) and Prince Amukamara (PFF's #31 CB) are a step back from what Kizer has faced. Eddie Jackson (PFF's #55 S) is also a step back.

As mentioned earlier, the Bears defense doesn't have a ferocious pass rush, and their secondary is pretty average. Meanwhile, Kizer is getting to the stage where we can reasonably expect to see both him getting on the same page as Gordon and Coleman, and Gordon and Coleman getting back in to the swing of things.

Hue Jackson spoke during his press conference this week about Deshone's pendulum performances in the second half of the season. It's actually really interesting:

Lions - was described as his best game of the season.
Jaguars - he struggled.
Bengals - was described as his best game of the season.
Chargers - he struggled.
Packers - was described as his best game of the season.
Ravens - he struggled.

With any luck, this is going to continue his pattern. To Kizer's credit, if you don't have the Jaguars, Chargers and Ravens in your top against-pass defenses, you're just lying to yourself. Kizer has played significantly better when not facing the best against-pass teams the NFL has to offer.

The Bears aren't one of those teams, so hopefully Kizer can turn in a nice game.

The Bears are 11th against the run in YPG allowed, allowing 4 YPC (8th best). However, they've lost some key players in the front seven of the course of the season, and they've not been as good recently. They've allowed 92 yards on 19 carries (4.8 YPC) last week, 70 yards on 13 carries (5.3 YPC) the week before, 102 yards on 30 carries (3.4) the week before and 150 yards on 24 carries (6.2) the week before.

Hue has to get the ground game going. There really isn't any excuses this week. They've got a banged up DL that isn't great against the run, and I don't see them putting up a heap of point. There is zero reason to abandon the run.

Special teams will be a big deal, too. Can't allow Tarik Cohen to pop one.

This is a winnable game, but I've said that before too many times.

I think a win over the Bears is possible. Lets run the ball 40+ times, some play action passing and hope the Bears rookie QB will make enough mistakes to help us.

I play Kizer from the 20 to the 20, then bring Duke into hand off 3 times to Crowell or Dayes, either we run it in or kick the FG. That is the only way we win the game.

I know this makes me a bad fan, but the Bears beating the Browns helps the Houston pick.

This is probably our last chance. We played Pittsburgh pretty hard our last game last year but many of their ones were out.
