I believe some of the greatest football coaches grew up on the shores of Lake Erie, see Meyer, see Gruden. If Jon Gruden would ever come down from the booth, it would be to mold a cat from his homeland.
Wealth of draft picks, and no reason to not shoot for the stars. C'mon Jimmy, restore the balance by making him an offer he can't refuse.

When was the last time he coached? Don't think he's coaching anytime soon... he'd be nuts to give up his cushy job for the stress of coaching

No thanks. The only 'big name' retread I would be interested in would be Cower and I don't think he's giving up his cushy media gig.

Even if he was a good fit, which we don't actually know, he's not leaving MNF for Cleveland. If the Tampa Bay job opens up. . .

IMHO once you lose that passion that made you successful in football it's over. I don't know of many coaches who make a successful return after a long break from the game. Gruden might have a chance since he has been involved with players a lot and still has that high energy that is contagious.

I think it's more likely for us to convince John Madden to come back to coaching.

I think it's more likely for us to convince John Madden to come back to coaching. This is disappointing. I was really looking forward to your annual "I hate Jon Gruden" post.

Report: Jon Gruden contacting possible assistants Jay BusbeeShutdown CornerDec 24, 2017, 10:17 AM Earlier this month, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers inducted Super Bowl-winning former head coach Jon Gruden into the team’s ring of honor. Gruden clearly reveled in being back on the field again and out of the broadcast booth, and a new round of rumors suggests there could be another visor and headset in his future. The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Christmas Eve that Gruden is doing a bit of a personnel dance, contacting former assistants to see if they might be interested in a new gig. “Gruden right now is going through the process of reaching out to former assistants and friends in the coaching industry to see if they would potentially come with him if he were able to get a head coaching job,” Rapoport said. “Of course, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers do have Dirk Koetter on the hot seat. That would be his preferred destination.” It’s important to note a few points. First, this isn’t an indication that Gruden has a new job lined up, or that he’s even being considered. Plus, he’s been out of the coaching game since the end of the 2008 season. That’s two generations in NFL time. The players he’d be drafting next year were in elementary school the last time Gruden wore a headset. But the top quality NFL teams look for in a new coach is an old coach, and Gruden has spent the last decade at the top of every college and pro fan’s wish list for a new top dog. Plus, he’s got deep contacts across the league, and could assemble a strong roster of assistants that would, in theory, help him through the rough spots. It’ll make for a fascinating next few weeks of discussion, or a fatter ESPN paycheck for Gruden, one of the two. Could Jon Gruden return to the sideline? I'd love to have a fiery head coach like Gruden.

gruden will never be a coach here. if he wanted to, he has had chance after chance after chance to become a coach. Lets see, he has coached since 08, that's 10 years. Our track record dictates hes had about 8 opportunities to take over for us hahaha

Not only has his cushy, high-paying media job made him a celebrity, it has made casual fans think he's a genius. He's not coming here with such a high likelihood of it not working as usual and making him looking like a failure.

No one has called Gruden's phone in a minute. The way he tripped over himself and gushed about being at the Buc's practice during hard knocks was cringeworthy and hard to watch. I remember when he left the room, one of the coaches said, "You think he misses it?" and all the assistants laughed.

It boils down to who you want to fast talk you. He tosses a little pigskin jargon that is wasted on a lot of folks listening. Those who understand don't need his show of genius.
Not here. He found something easier to do. Couldn't afford the pay cut, I bet!

So much for that one ... *L* ...
Dirk Koetter - C - Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Times reports Bucs coach Dirk Koetter will return in 2018.
The Glazer family has told Koetter he won't be fired despite growing Jon Gruden rumors. Koetter had a highly dissapointing 2017 that included a pair of five-game losing streaks and concerning regression from Jameis Winston, but the Bucs plan to stick with him for at least another season. It won't be surprising if Koetter is forced to make some changes to his coaching staff.

Even if he does comeback to coach. Whoever is running this ship, secure The Ohio State University pipeline of talent. Even though I attended The, and there may be bias.
I would argue the state of Ohio, per capita, produces the greatest football talent on planet earth. Keep this talent in house, it's not fan boy rah rah.
I'd like to think it's genuine perspective. Ohio vs the NFL

looks like he might end up back in Raider land
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Wonder who their token minority interview was with?
