Best TV sports time of the year (outside of Cleveland or Ohio State vying for a championship)

I’m a little disappointed with the December 29th Cotton Bowl date for Ohio State vs. USC.

But not the opponent.

This Saturday

The New Orleans Bowl
The Cure Bowl
Las Vegas Bowl
New Mexico Bowl
Camellia Bowl

Bowl games nonstop from 1 pm EST to midnight.

During my two-weeks-vacation-a-year jobs, I always took the week between Christmas and New Years off. (usually only 4 vacation days for 10 consecutive days off)

I'm always amused at the bowl names each year ... they seem to get longer, more random each season

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Just wait two months if you want to see amateur athletics degrade itself with a full tournament. Enjoy the bowl match ups, even if OSU won't be able to have another shot at the title.

Besides, it'll be bad for the sport if it expands much more.

Why? Not being sarcastic here but why? If you look at D2 and D3 they hold a 32 team tourney every year, the NCAA says expanding the CFP will put a strain on the student athletes, but yet the other divisions do not seem to be bothered by it? I feel that it has to expand to at least a 6 team field if not 8, I truly feel that the NCAA is more concerned about $$$$ than the student athlete anyways, they believe bowl games will bring more revenue when an expanded playoff will bring much more interest than a "scrimmage" that leads to nothing + more fan interest brings more revenue ... JMHO

I didn't want to say it.

I probably didn't want to think it.

But I agree.

Especially once players started sitting out their school's games for purely economic reasons.

To me, this shows a contempt of the sport.

Forty years ago, players would have never ever stayed out a game they could play in.

They loved to play. (even the annual NFL All-Star game)

Of course now college football is just one or two more years of preparation for pro football.

Do they even pretend they're "going to college" for an education anymore?

I really feel that American football has peaked and is going to continue to decline.

We the fans are to blame. College football is just a stepping stone to the NFL now because of the Millions to be made and because us idiot fans are willing to pay the high prices the NFL charges we've helped make it that way. Used to be an NFL player had to get a job during the off-season to make ends meet now they are multi-millionaires.

Most of the bowls in the pre-BCS and BCS eras were exhibitions too. Maybe you'd have the traditional Big10-Pac10 matchup in the Rose Bowl, but it would be #5 vs. #9. The outcome meant nothing then and it means nothing now too, there's just more of those meaningless bowls today.

Maybe it's not that the bowl games are less important, there's just too many of them, so it's a perceived dilution of importance.

I would say, we now have three MEANINGFUL bowls and the others have the same importance as ever, bumpkis (means everything to the university revenue stream, marketing, the coaches, ESPN, the players and their familes...but not to the title).

As for expansion, I hoping it doesn't happen. I like the mix we're at now. Each week has tension. If you're #5 and you lose on the road in week 4, you may not get back in, especially if you lose badly (cough-OSU-cough). If you expand to 8, 12 or 16 teams, a bad loss means nothing. As long as you lose 2 or less at the end of the season, you're in. And having three losses will still get you in if you're a big program. That makes the regular season games as important as college basketball regular season games. They're playoff positional/bracket setup games. You'd know OSU is getting in to a 16-team playoff, but where? No drama.

Keep it at 4. A loss doesn't kill you, unless it's a bad loss. A 2nd loss may doom you, unless your resume balances it out. Teams still have to try every week now.

Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl just ended.

Great game.

Army down 35-28 scores a touchdown with 18 seconds left in game.

Army down 35-34.

Army goes for and converts a two point conversion.

Wins 36-35.

Actually 42-35 on a final desperation pass play pick 6.

SD.State coaches blew that game. SD got the ball after an INT in the red zone in the 4th quarter with a chance to go up two touchdowns. Instead of giving the ball to Perry and let him run, they throw the ball which Army intercepted and drove down the field for a TD. That is when the game turned.

How did Perry look? I think he's an interesting RB prospect for the late rounds.

LOL, my kid is in the band at Akron and they just got back from the Boca Raton Bowl. After the MAC Championship game they were celebrating not having to go to Alabama

Toledo should be embarrassed the way they played tonight.
You would think they would be motivated after losing to App. St. last year but they looked like they didn't care and just wanted to get the heck out of Alabama.

Akron didn't do that great in their Bowl either losing 50-3. At least Ohio showed up for their Bowl. Overall it seems like MAC teams don't do well in bowls. Having your champion get blown out really makes the MAC look bad.

The MAC was pretty bad this year, I have been gone from the athletic dept at Kent for a couple years now so I am not really sure why. We usually have at least one team that makes a little noise on the national stage, but not this season for sure

He had a great game. He ran all over Army.

Which is why I don't under stand why SD.ST threw the ball instead of running it when they had the chance to go up by two TDs late. Sometimes coaches outsmart themselves.

The college football season is winding down fast.

West Virginia lost to Utah today in the Dallas Bowl (Heart of Dallas Bowl)

Wasn't a particularly good game. The stadium (The Cotton Bowl) looked like there were 100 people there.

Of course I was rooting for The Mountaineers.

This Bowl started in 2011,

So far the B10 has respresented well. 2-0 in their bowl games. Purdue got a win last night over Arizona and Iowa took care of BC on a frozen field in NYC.

Sparty battles Wazzu tonight.

Quinn Blanding showed that he couldn't defend the run against Navy, which is an uphill battle, but does show how exploitable his run defense is.

Virginia Tech vs OK State next.

We got Mason Rudolph vs. the Edmund Brothers. Tremaine is a linebacker who wears #49. Terrell Edmunds is a safety and wears #22.

Other players to note for the next game:
Adonis Alexander, CB, VT #36
Greg Stronman, CB, VT #3

James Washington, WR, OK St. #28

I am a Big Ten fan, and a big OSU fan, but let's not get too high and mighty. Many, many years our conference has laid turds during bowl season. Let's just take the good fortunes we've had so far with some grace and class. Pride goeth before the fall, and all that.

Yes the SEC has been better BUT not this year Bama got in the playoffs by reputation alone ... I know about pride and what it can do to a man but God has humbled me, I'm just tired of hearing how great the SEC is when in reality they have fallen from the best conference status ... thumbsup
