It's a prequel, sequel, sidequel, with a twist and a 1 1/2 ganer.

I haven't read up on any behind-the-scenes info but feel strongly that in TLJ the close-up on the iron, where you think it's a ship for a second, was an homage to Hardware Wars.
Rogue One was prequels bad. Maybe worse. Literally awful.
It's all about opinions but that statement is crazy talk in my book. I would suggest you rewatch the prequels but I would never wish that upon anyone.
I usually go back and watch all 6 - 7 now, before the new movies come out - so I've seen the prequels quite a few times at this point.
Honestly, the acting was bad. The CGI was AWFUL. Unrealistic and cartoonish, like I'm watching a bad Saturday morning show for kids. BUT - the story isn't all that bad. If I put it on in the background and just listen but don't watch it - they're actually not half bad.
Rogue One on the other hand was 2 hours of minutiae to tell a 15 minute story. With lots of fake flashy explosions - and forced attempts at character development, when NOBODY CARED about any of the characters. It was literally impossible to form any type of bond to any of the characters, because from the minute go - you knew every one of them was going to die. To this day I couldn't tell you what any names of any of the characters in that movie were, nor do I care. Talk about anticlimactic. And it just drug on and on and on...
Anyway - back to TLJ talk - sorry for the detour.
Fear us, for we are the BROWNS, led by the mighty BM! Only in Cleveland.
I waited roughly two and a half weeks to see this; the wait paid off.
Rian Johnson, the director and writer of The Last Jedi, got some courage to pull off what he did.
Things that I truly appreciate about this film:
1. It’s finally not about the Skywalkers. Now it’s about how anyone, such as Rey, can channel the force to impact change.
2. I LOVE that Rey isn’t part of some bloodline. I feared they’d go the easy way out with her by making her a forgotten Skywalker, give some convoluted story about how she’s a Kenobi, or somehow some long lost daughter of Leia and Han.
3. The shades of grey motif won’t end how we think it will. I’m not convinced either wil turn, or that even there will be perfect harmony. Maybe Ben needs to drop the whole chosen idea, mich like we were told, and just accept he’s more adept than others. People just are who they are for no reason.
4. We needed the humor. This truly is a dark film.
5. I’m glad they let Leia use her force powers.
6. Rian Johnson will make his own trilogy, not using any Skywalker relatives, after this set of movies finally wraps up. I’m glad Disney gave him the keys to the galaxy.
7. I fail to understand the backlash I read about. It ain’t a perfect film, but the franchise needed a movie like this. We need fresh blood, and no reusing the same beats anymore. Johnson reused some similar ideas, but they worked as a great meta-commentary towards “you silly fans wanting the same things...now watch what I do!”
8. Snoke got treated like a David Lynch character. I appreciate that; many of you will miss Johnson’s point in treating Snoke like he did.
I have liked this franchise less and less after being delighted with the first three. Haven't seen this one yet, but wife and I hope to soon.
Neither of us cared for Rogue One. Did not hate it, just no connection to it. Two good things though: First, no Binks (never forgive them for that!); and, second, there was popcorn.

I went in with very low expectations, as I was extremely disappointed with 7.
While it's true that there are many similarities between 7 and 5/6, I didn't feel like I had watched the movie before like I did with 7.
Overall, I liked the movie. I felt that I got my money's worth seeing it in the theatre (and tickets are expensive out here in southern California). I very much enjoyed the lightsaber fight after Snoke died. I wish that Snoke's backstory would've been fleshed out, like others have said, but more than that... I'd like to know where the whole First Order came from and how they're so powerful. I mean, wasn't the Empire defeated and overthrown? I don't understand how a group can be defeated like they were in Return of the Jedi and then turn around and have all the armies, ships, etc. in Episode 7. I liked what they did with Luke. He's powerful and everything, but he was always mentally weak. It would be cool to make Rey into a badass female Jedi.... I feel like I don't really "get" her character. Why is she doing all this? Where did she come from? I get the impression that her character is kinda clueless and dumb... just kinda going with the flow. It would be great to turn her character into a badass, but they sure are taking their time.
The Leia Mary Poppins scene was brutal. Yeah, suspension of disbelief and everything... but come on. I can't help but think that that would've been a great way to kill off the character (Carrie Fischer passed away, and you don't have that awful scene in the movie anymore). I like what they're doing with Kylo Ren. I hated the character in 7, but I like how they're developing him in 8. He does kill Snoke, but that just seems to push him further to the dark side with the whole "I can do the same thing the evil guy did, but do it right"... kinda the same trap that Anakin fell into... sorta. Also, I did not see it coming when he killed Snoke. That was pretty cool.
Other stuff How did Rey get from the Dreadnaught after the saber battle onto the Falcon with Chewie in the battle on the salt planet? She just kinda pops up in the gunner seat with no explanation whatsoever. How did she get from the FO capital ship to the Falcon? I didn't have such a problem with the Finn/Rose casino planet stuff. It was way too long, but it sets up how the younger generation across the galaxy is going to support the rebellion.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

There was a huge sub-text about this in the movie; it's the same sub-text that talks abour the jedi, rey's parents, etc. None of that really matters, and that's what Johnson wanted everyone to know. It's not about some individual person. Rather the more important piece is that literally anyone can impact major change by using the Force. Heck, even Finn wielded a lightsaber quite well. Even Luke talked about this with the whole "what do you expect? Me come in with a laser sword and save the day?" when Rey first met him.

I hear you on this. It's nothing too spectacular, though. The books explain it. Basically it's a rag tag group of Imperial remnants that the Emperor had ready incase he fell. Snoke just came along in proxy to find General Hux and Ben.
Once again, it's the whole sub-text of "does the past or reasons really matter?".

That's the point. She's not part of the Skywalkers or whatever. She's some random person who is making huge change in the galaxy. That's also the point of the kid with the broom in the end, too.

These are most likely all deleted scenes. The original cut of the movie was over 3 hours.

When Ren was coming to Hux told him that she made off in Snokes shuttle. How she ended up on the Falcon after that...I dunno.
WE DON'T NEED A QB BEFORE WE GET A LINE THAT CAN PROTECT HIM my two cents...
Maybe we just disagree, but the past and reasons DO matter (to me, and it sounds like quite a few).
For me, one of the few downsides to franchises like this is that I'm into it, but not so into it that I read the books and stuff.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.
Still... when it cut to Chewie and Rey in the Falcon I was like, "Oh, hello there!"

I went to the late afternoon showing today. The best thing about it was the Warren theater I was in. Balcony seating for adults only, serving adult beverages and a 91 speaker dolby atmos setup. Very nice, very comfortable.
The movie, it’s a Star Wars movie, mostly predictable. Talking to my wife on the way home we both agreed the first one was the best one. Though we also agreed we’d never stand in lines like that to see another movie.
I saw it last night. I liked it, even if they just repeat the same plot details as the other films. I don't get all the political talk that people have been extrapolating into real life. I think people should just chill and enjoy the movie as a space opera, whose universe is in large, very unclear. For example, Luke's spent a lot of his time bringing together some sort of codex or history of the Jedis, but then Yoda destroys it saying Rey knows everything in the books. But how though? Also, what the hell was in that cave that Rey entered?
Some things that I have questions about. Why did we not get more fish nuns or those milking creatures? I don't know about you guys, but my American dream is to look like this every Browns game. The Porgs are actually migrant birds that were on the island they were filming. It was cheaper to make them look like aliens than it was to remove them via CGI. The Crystal Critter was super cool to see. What was the red mineral on the salt planet? It looked great, but why didn't the trench soldier taste that? What's going to happen to the Princess if she can survive space exposure due to the Force? I heard that they would not be CGIing her into the newest movie. Also, I hope Benicio Del Toro returns in the next movie. It's always great to see him in anything and the stutter was a great addition to the universe. I just hope Finn and Poe are used more in the next movie. They felt so useless in this movie.
My favorite Star Wars movie is still Rogue One. imho you just can't beat the casting on it. It had all my favorite real life actors and I think Donnie Yen (blind guy) would give Yoda and Liam Neeson a run for their money in any duel. But I understand why people wouldn't like it since it's hard to care about their characters as you only see them in that movie.
Did anyone else think that they were watching the red queen's army from Alice in Wonderland without their playing cards on during that fight scene after Ren killed Snoke?
Did someone say off with their heads?

You do realize that George sold the franchise to Disney a few years back don't you?
The only thing I liked about the end was when Hux asked Ren 'You think you got him'? When Ren ordered everyone to fire on Luke, and then Luke comes out of all that and dusts his robe off.
Other than that, looked just like The Empire Strikes Back.

I get this. But he still gets credit in the movie, and it is his baby.
This was totally not the empire strikes back.
Sorry.
You realize that was just an image of Luke right? Not the real Luke. Obviously.

This was totally a combination of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. The whole good guy bad guy elevator ride, the 'conflict within you' thing, the ATAT on the white terrain. I know it was salt, but c'mon. Come up with something else.
Of course I know it was a 'projection' of Luke, was actually a little disappointed in that. Thought that would've been really cool if it were really him.
All this coming from a 40 year Star Wars fan too. I even liked the prequels the first time I saw them. Still had my Star Wars colored 'blast shield' over my eyes then. Only when watching them back on rerun stations did I see the flaws.
This time, had my eyes open a little wider.
Rogue One ranks as my favorite. Seemed grittier, more like the first three than any of the others.

Didn't want to start a new thread for a trailer. The new Han Solo movie trailer looks like it could be a fun movie. Has a grittier look. Hard to say if the entire movie will play that way. Guess we’ll find out in May.
