Fox News is receiving backlash after its host Jesse Watters suggested on Saturday evening that the FBI and special counsel Robert Mueller are staging a “coup” against President Donald Trump. On his segment “Watters’ World,” Watters suggested that Mueller’s investigation into Trump’s campaign has been “crooked from the jump.” “We may now have proof the investigation was weaponized to destroy his presidency for partisan political purposes and to disenfranchise millions of American votes,” he said. “Now if that’s true, we have a coup on our hands in America.” A coup, by definition, is a "sudden, violent and illegal seizure of power from a government," which Watters believes is happening in the United States. Watters, who in the same segment likened FBI agents to Michael Moore, asked White House adviser Kellyanne Conway on the show whether a coup in America might occur. “The fix was in against Donald Trump from the beginning, and they were pro-Hillary,” Conway responded. “They can’t possibly be seen as objective or transparent or even-handed or fair.” The discussion on a coup against Trump comes after text messages from the phone of Peter Strzok, a former FBI investigator involved in the Russia probe, were released last Tuesday. The messages referred to Trump as a “douche,” an “utter idiot” and a “loathsome human.” Roughly 375 texts between Strzok and FBI lawyer Lisa Page are believed by conservatives to show partisan bias in the FBI. Watters is receiving negative feedback from his commentary. “Coup?! I cover wars. Militaries. Actual coups. Where citizens violently rise up and kill each other for power over each other. This is alarmingly irresponsible language, even for Fox. Inflammatory. Baseless. Dangerous," tweeted Kevin Baron, executive editor at Defense One. “A coup in America?” This is incredibly irresponsible rhetoric. It’s no surprise that the same network that still denies Russian interference for Trump also uses this kind of language to describe law enforcement efforts to uphold the law and our sovereignty," reacted Evan McMullin, co-founder of Stand Up Republic. "Use of the word coup by Fox News after Russia has deliberately worked to destabilize U.S. democracy is extremely irresponsible and should be roundly condemned," said Ron Nehring, former national spokesman for Ted Cruz during his presidential run. Republicans have expressed their distaste for the FBI in various ways. Fox News hosts recently compared the FBI to the Soviet-era KGB. Trump has frequently referred to the Russian investigations as a “witch hunt.” And in June, Fox host Sean Hannity claimed a “soft coup is underway" to overthrow the president. On Monday, MSNBC host Joe Scarborough responded to Watters’s weekend segment. “They are fomenting a constitutional crisis by suggesting to people watching Fox News in Middle America that somebody is attempting a coup, a coup against our government. “What they are doing could lead to violence, and what they are doing is about as deeply irresponsible than anything I’ve ever seen,” Scarborough added. http://www.newsweek.com/what-coup-fox-news-host-claims-we-have-coup-our-hands-america-751754

long post inc....
this is what happens when a "news organization" is nothing more than state-sponsored media pushing nonstop propaganda.
what's amazing is that there is a clear divide in Fox news as well. Anchors like Caputo, Baer, and Smith get demonized by the far righties for actually being critical of the president, while mouthpieces like Hannity, Watters, and Graham push conspiracies and other nonsense in support of Trump are praised by the pro-trump crowd.
I watch fox news sometimes because i feel it's important to see everything from multiple angles in order to have an educated opinion on a variety of topics. however, after 10 minutes, i find myself having to cleanse myself of the fallacies, blatant lies, and overall shadiness that is Fox news by changing to other networks who actually report the news, not whataboutism.
they claim that this investigation is a liberal/democrat hit job, yet:
Fox News and their viewers refuse to acknowledge that the original investigation started under Comey, a Republican.
Fox News and their viewers refuse to acknowledge that the special council was appointed by Rosenstein, a Republican.
Fox News and their viewers refuse to acknowledge that the current investigation is being ran by Mueller, a Republican.
and Pit, have you noticed how Fox news and other conservatives have changed their tune?
when Mueller first was appointed, every conservative and their momma was singing praises, saying how Mueller is the best guy to do this investigation, he will be fair and impartial and blah blah blah.
they were all aboard on Mueller.....right up until they realized he was actually doing his job and have:
27 charges.
4 indictments.
and 2 guilty pleas.
now all of a sudden, the investigation is corrupt and they need to fire him, or appoint a special council to investigate the special council?
oh, and this article you posted pit, comes during the same time the Feds confirmed that they actually WARNED Trump that the russians would try to influence the campaign.
that not only Obama, but Yates AND the Feds warned Trump about michael Flynn.
this comes at a time where Trump takes Putin's word over our own intelligence communities, and yet somehow Mueller is the problem?
there's a lot of crap being pushed by Fox news, the GOP, and their cult like followers, aka trump supporters.
from deflecting to Uranium one that actually was a big ass nothing burger, to trying to claim that the FBI is biased.
honestly, i view Trump, the administration, the GOP, and fox news in the same light as the current leadership in Turkey.
all corrupt, full of crap, and trying to power grab but shutting down the opposition.

Sheppard Smith is my favorite on air talent out of the big 3 networks and I constantly get crap about it. But people like Tucker Carlson and Jesse Watters make the network into Infowars lite.

but when the Five comes on......lololololol

I have no idea where the Mueller investigation will lead to in the end. I have a few thoughts on it, but who can prove it? Nobody yet. But it does seem to be worrying the FOX News team (or certain members of that team) and the President and his team.
I've said it before and I'll keep saying it, Donald, if you and your team are innocent, then shut up and let the investigation go on. Do no impede it, do not attempt to block it in anyway. Do not fire Mueller (I don't think he can, but he can ask or demand that Rosenstien fire him)

It just goes to show that what the right calls "fake news" is everywhere. Even on the network they seem to support.

however, for you posters trashing smith, we all know why. After decades of Michael Savage, Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck yelling at them that they need to take back their country, it's hard to accept an even-keeled person being rational. It's why Alex Jones and Steve Bannon have no following on the left. They want a head coach for a news anchor, not news.

NYT: Former Trump campaign adviser told Australian diplomat Russia had dirt on Clinton http://www.cnn.com/2017/12/30/politics/g...rump/index.htmlThe FBI isn’t the problem. Trump and his people’s lack of being able to keep their mouths shut is the problem. Manafort Sues Mueller Link Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his legal team are suing Special Counsel Robert Mueller and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, alleging the Russia probe has gone beyond the scope of the special counsel regulations, according to an 18-page civil complaint filed with the district court in Washington. "The investigation of Mr. Manafort is completely unmoored from the special counsel's original jurisdiction to investigate ‘any links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of President Donald Trump.’” In October, Manafort and his business partner Rick Gates pleaded not guilty to a 12-count indictment that included allegations of money laundering and making false statements in connection with their work in Ukraine. The complaint continued, "Those alleged dealings had no connection whatsoever to the 2016 presidential election or even to Donald Trump." Manafort's legal team is asking the court "to hold those actions unlawful and set them aside." As president's allies slam prosecutor. According to the complaint, Mueller was given additional authority to pursue "any matters that arose or may arise from that investigation." Manafort’s legal team alleges the deputy attorney general went beyond his "authority to appoint a special council as well as specific restrictions on the scope of such appointments." At the time of the May 2017 appointment of Mueller, Rosenstein said, "It is in the public interest for me to exercise my authorities and appoint a special counsel to assume responsibility for this matter." Manafort alleges he’s been "injured" by the investigation, causing him "significant reputational harm, has exposed him to invasions of his personal privacy, and has forced him to incur substantial costs and expenses to defend himself." Fox News asked the Justice Department and Special Counsel’s office for comment, but there was no immediate response.
