We're going to spend the offseason ripping him apart, so I'm going to start that offseason on a positive by saying that Kizer finishes with 3,313 total yards and 16 total touchdowns.
Kizer saved his best for last, throwing for 314 yards and 2 touchdowns, with an additional 61 yards rushing. He threw a pick, and had two dropped picks, but I find it hard to annihilate a kid for a 370 yard, multiple touchdown game.
The image at the end of the game, with Kizer consoling Coleman as he couldn't fight back the tears, was another example of the tremendous leadership the kid possesses. A guy just dropped your season, a real chance to finally get a win, and you're the first over there to make sure he's okay. That's class.
I'm excited about Kizer's future. His biggest issue is accuracy, but accuracy can absolutely be worked on and improved. He needs to speed things up, but I think he can, largely because things did speed up for him over the course of the year.
The Browns are going to draft a quarterback in the first round. Of that, I'm almost certain. I'm far less certain that the kid will walk in and smoke Kizer. I still think the young man could be a franchise quarterback moving forward.
The best thing to do after a game like this? Watch a comedy on TV, or something else that is good & engaging to take your mind off the game we just lost... and the other 15 too.

I didn't realize he had that good of a game!
Although I disagree with him ever being a franchise QB, your comments about his leadership qualities were admirable.
P.S. I'm glad this season is over. It was rough.... REALLY rough!
I don't want anything to do with Mayfield and his off the field issues. If you learn ONE thing from Paul Brown, it's that low character leads to bad teammates. Move it on down the line.
Mayfield doesn't have off field issues.
Your joking right?
"Less than a couple months earlier, starting quarterback Baker Mayfield was arrested in Fayetteville, Ark., on four charges, including public intoxication, disorderly conduct, fleeing and resisting arrest."
We don't need an idiot like this leading our team.
Amazing how Mayfield’s fan bois are quick to say he has no off field issues. To most people, an arrest on 4 charges is an issue. Serious set of blinders.
I dont know that i agree about hm becoming accurate or proccesing info fast enough ....
what i do know ...
- i’m not ready to give up on him ...
- i am impressed with his leadership and maturity ... that was a true leader at the end of the game ....
I’m for a vet like McCaron and a 1st rnd qb ....
I will say this about the kid.
He got spunk and fire to him for sure.
I read his lips when Coleman dropped the last pass, after Kizer's hella scramble to avoid a sack, broke free fired a bullseye and watched it get dropped.
"are you .......kidding me?"
kid has no quite in him for sure.
I bet you're wondering the samething I did, why O' why didn't I take the...blue pill
By the third game last year, Kessler was in complete shell shock. The moment he got the snap he was looking at the line. At least Kizer shows more life than that. The dude just has the worst footwork I've ever seen. You can always tell if he'll throw an ugly ball as he'll bring his back leg forward like he's mounting a horse. I've never seen a QB refuse to use the powers in his legs like him.
He also has a hop for no reason. Has that magical Anderson touch that Mr. Potato Cannon was noted for. When he winds it up to drill it, his toss can get short armed. Badly. Like we saw yards and yards short of receivers about five times this year.
Some good work today, some putrid as well. I do not see the draft as salvation. Some FA could have helped us.

don't be surprised if they roll the dice with Kizer and draft weapons on O
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
I hope we keep Kizer and give him a legit vet to lean on.
I have a feeling Rosen will not be a Brown, he is the best prospect in this draft at QB. Either he doesn’t come out or maybe we do a deal with the Giants for Rosen. Hmmm. Get the 2nd pick with a future 1st probably, get to pick a QB who wants to play here. Hmm
I don’t think Darnold comes out.
I do think some how Allen will be the QB pick for Dorsey, just a hunch, maybe not at 1 though.
And absolutely no to Baker Maziel. Everything about him reminds me of Masuro, antics, off field issues, even the way he plays.
We will bring in a vet, I like Smith the best but will be happy with anyone with experience.

Is he a drunk, someone who would rather party than win ? Does he care more about his next drink than his next game ? Is he an entitled kid whose daddy has footed the bill for a lavish lifestyle ? If not, he is nothing like Manzel...
I've heard of Mayfield working, training, watching film and playing with passion. Manzel did not deserve his Heisman, Mike Evans won it for him. Can you say that about Mayfield ? That someone else's excellence carried him...
The Cleveland Browns - WE KNOW QUARTERBACKS ( Look at how many we've had ... )
Kizer has been up and down this season. Today was one of his best "up" days
I still draft a QB, and sign a vet.

He's not Manziel...drunkard? When he turned 21 one night in February???
What do you really know about this kid? But you are sure to call him a drunkard.
He'll meet a girl and settle down.
Back to the thread.
So Kizer had two of his best games against the Steelers.
One thing I don't really get. Kizer is suppose to have this strong arm. Lately I've been seeing him wind up for a big throw and then it dies like a duck into the ground woefully short of the target...I mean he is putting the ultimate Ummmpfff into the throw and no where! Whats up with that.
Kizer threw a good long ball to Gordon finally...nice to see.
In the beginning of the game terrible then he settled down a bit. Bad Kizer...simple Hitch route on a 2nd down play near our goal line. 5 yards in front of him with no essential pressure on him....and he throws a fastball to the ankles.
good Kizer the bomb to Gordon and good 8 yard skinny post to Higgins who broke it up the middle for a TD.
Then it was Mediocre Kizer most of the way. Not bad, not good. He has gotten better without a doubt in his running and decisions on running. Also this was the first time I saw FIRE in the KID to lead us to a win!
Shame Coleman dropped that pass I was curious to what we whould have done from around the 10 yard line???

He played his ass off and did some really good things but it doesn't change a thing. Hopefully we keep him and allow him to develop. Kessler & Hogan should be gone and hopefully the QB room includes Vet, #1 pick & Kizer.

Kizer will make a lot of progress this offseason. Kizer will be able to start in January with Tom House to get a lot of his messy mechanics under control. The season is not a time where players are going to make most of their progress, it's the offseason. Kizer will have a full 6 months to work on his craft before OTAs. Let's hope he uses that time well, as does every player.
That all sounds good, but you can't gamble the future of your team on Kizer.
I would never suggest such a thing. I'm just trying to correct this notion that Kizer's career is over and that Kizer should've been exponentially better during the season.
We all knew before the draft that Kizer would not be ready day one. Sashi didn't get that memo though and that is why he went bye bye. While it was very painful to watch the year of NFL experience was a good thing for Kizer. He will have a lot to process and recover from this offseason.
NO ONE KNOWS if he will make the adjustments and progress to the next level or not. If he will fix the issues with seeing the field that he has atm. We all know he has some great physical skills. Mental skill always take longer to develop and improve so only time will tell. I think it is way too early to toss him aside. I'm not endorsing him or anything but just saying we need to be patient while bringing in the best players we can to compete against him and to help him out.
You can't fix stupid but you can destroy ignorance. When you destroy ignorance you remove the justifications for evil. If you want to destroy evil then educate our people. Hate is a tool of the stupid to deal with what they can't understand.
He played his ass off and did some really good things but it doesn't change a thing.
Which is sad, in my opinion.
Kid puts up 375 yards on the divisional champions in their own home during a frozen game, almost singlehandedly carrying the worst team in the NFL to victory, but for some inexplicable reason it means nothing and won't change anything.
The guy improved in every capacity over the second half of the season. Scored at a higher rate, turned the ball over at a lesser rate in spite of consistently facing some of the best teams in the NFL, completed his passes at a higher percentage, his yards per increased, and his rushing was phenomenal as he rushed over 6 yards per carry.
Yet, we're going to bury him on the depth chart behind a #1 pick and a stopgap veteran quarterback like Alex Smith who isn't even wanted by his own team while our team signed the GM who just replaced Smith.
And that's assuming a half decent team can actually be assembled around the quarterback.
Ain't hard to see why the top quarterbacks are questioning if they want to come to Cleveland.

I put full blame on Hue for that fiasco. Hue did everything he could to position Kizer as the guy and barely played BO. Both Kessler and Hogan looked better than Kizer in the preseason as well.
There were a few of us saying starting Kizer week 1 would be a huge mistake and it was. Any of the other QB's on the roster would have been a better option while we focused on getting Kizer ready to play in the NFL. That being said, I'm not giving up on Kizer and there is a lot he can improve if he works hard in the off season.
And I understand why you see it that way. But that's not the only scenario in play here. Did you ever stop to think that starting Kizer this season and not keeping or signing a veteran was an organizational decision and not just a Hue decision? When you draft the fourth QB at #52 in the draft, that's not necessarily seen as an answer but more like a question mark.
At that point, do you wait three years and put that much time and team development into the question mark or do you play him and see if the light comes on? Now your answer may be different than what this teams decision was, but that's obviously the approach that the organization took.
I'm not saying that Kizer should be given up on. I'm not saying the team shouldn't continue to develop him. What I'm saying is that after starting a season the question is answered that we need to invest much higher at the QB position.
Fans complain that we don't win and then complain because we're going to make every attempt to greatly improve the QB position.
You may wish to blame this failed experiment on Hue if you wish. However, keep in mind that the two people that both answer to Haslam about their wishes and decisions reported to Haslam. Haslam knows who is responsible for those decisions. One of those men is still here while one is now gone.
Maybe there are reasons for that.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
Nah even I wish to keep him and develop him. I still know the main thing is his accuracy that will keep him from being a successful QB.
I like his running ability and he hit on a couple of open WRs the Fictional story you stated about him single handed keeping us in the game. The only thing I feel bad about was his last throw was a good one (although he had the first via run) but good decision and good throw to have Coleman miss that one to end the game. I feel bad for both, Coleman and Kizer.
I'm prove his Completion pct. dumping the ball for no gain too often is not improving his accuracy just the STAT. And I thought it was his best game but 53% in your best is not an improvement.
Hey he finally made an accurate long pass to Gordon for the almost TD...but also in the 1st quarter we got a WR doing a simple hitch route wide open for 5 yards plus YAC and you got Kizer with no duress throwing a fastball at his ankles.
Too much of the later and not enough of the former - can he improve. I think so I want him here as our #3 behind a Vet starter and Franchise first round pick QB. Improve but not enough to be successful. The kid is a good kid so I hope he sticks here a long time.

Patrick Mahomes - 22/35 for 284 yards, 1 INT, 7 rushing for 10 yards: Against the 5-11 Denver Broncos who clearly quit on the season.
Deshone Kizer - 16/30 for 314 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, 6 rushing for 61 yards: Against the 13-3 division champion Pittsburgh Steelers.
Take a guess at who is up for the NFL's rookie of the week?
That's why I feel bad for Deshone Kizer. Even when he's lights out, he's not allowed to get any praise or recognition for his efforts.
Lights out? ... come on bro ....
Honestly, I just think you're against it because it's Kizer, and nothing more.
To each his own.
Personally, there is no reality in which 375 yards and multiple touchdowns on our division rival, from a rookie quarterback, is something I will be disappointed with. Doesn't matter who the quarterback is: If he produces like that, I'll be damn proud of the kid.
