You guys want to know why this team sucked? Go look at the turnover differential stat this team had.. Ill give u a hint.. -27... Thats MINUS 27. No coach that ever lived would have overcome that stat. Im guessing 90 percent of those were from the QB he got stuck with. Could he have protected his young QB more? Probably..but Crow running into to back of his OL or tripping on a blade of grass didnt help. Dropped passes by guys that looked like they were suprised the ball actually got to them within 5 yds didnt help either. I got no love for Hue..but if he gets a real QB and a decent corner..hes coaching will all of a sudden look much better.
Hue's the guy that pushed for starting a 21 year old kid that wasn't ready at QB. He also showed McCown the door shortly after week 17 last year and Bowles squeezed five times as many wins out of Josh in 1 year than Hue has in two.
Yea. Crow broke a couple . To pad the stats. Watching him is like watching Kiser , actually surprised when he does something average hes suppose to do. Like i said..Im not a huge HUE fan but you can only protect from stupid so much.
And u know Hue made those decisions himself ? Can u give me a link to that hidden mic in the front office conference room. You really think a head coach says..Hell yea.. I want these 3 guys to start for me? MCcown is brittle..Brock sucked for everyone. I blame Sashi for QB mess. No one else.
Once again, a HC is given a roster. What he does with that roster is completely upon his shoulders. Noone forced him to throw the ball so much, nor ignore the run game.
Mike Jurecki Verified account @mikejurecki #Browns GM John Dorsey will be making coaching decisions in Cleveland and they could let go of eight assistant coaches tomorrow. per source
This is a big deal....surprised not more conversation about this. If this is true then Dorsey is basically replacing the entire coaching staff, and Dorsey is doing the hiring of the new staff. They are daring Hue to quit imo.
Against logic, the most effective armor is willful ignorance.

I think they are trying to get Huebris to ask them to trade him to Cincinnati. I don't think Haslam wants to pay another coach to not work for him.
The thing is that, as we have learned, Huebris has no shame and will run the team into the ground before he gives any ground.
If Hue was smart he would go to Cincinnati and move on to a better opportunity. It would work out for everyone also.
1. Hue Jackson goes to an established team that knows his offensive schema. OMG, he has Andy Dalton and AJ! Giggles.
2. We let Dorsey pick the head coach like God intended because he is the GM. The GM is supposed to select the coach, not the owner. This means we would get to start over with a fresh offensive scheme, a new perspective. I just don't understand how you go into next year with a coach that went 0-16. If he goes 0-1, 0-2, 0-5, he better be on a short leash. It will be very interesting to see if people show up to the stadium. They really need to stop.
I am a die hard fan just like everyone else and love the Browns to death, but at some point people have to think about doing what is best for the team and city. Do not support a product if its bad. Haven't been to a game since 2008 and will not go until they start winning.

When head coach Hue Jackson took over earlier this year, he made it known that McCown did not have a long-term future with the organization as a player. He defeated all odds by being on the roster when the regular season opened.

Lima tweeted something similar to your suggestion last night and I just laughed it off. However if this is true (still a big if until we see it) then you guys might be right. There would be no other logical explanation for firing a HCs entire staff and then not letting him hire the new staff unless a) you want him to quit or b) your just lining everything up for his eventual firing. Haslem is a supreme idiot but I have a hard time believing he would allow option b to occur without just canning Hue now. Again if this is true you guys may be on to something

Lol. And does McCown have along term future anywhere. Come on.. u guys can twist words around anyway u want but McCown was never a long term answer. Would it have been nice to see him here and healty for mre than half a season.. ? Sure. but we decided to go with the future and after Kessler decided to hang on the ball like it was money and Hogan started air mailing balls.. someone decided to play the 2nd rd pick and see what they bought. They all sucked. I DONT GIVE A CRAP about his age or how many games he played in college...u either got it or u dont and not one of our QBs has IT.
And btw... Hue laughed at that report today in his presser. He asked the idiot reporter who he thought normally hired an assistant.. It aint the GM. Ever...

It's actually common sense. When you throw a QB in before he learns to make reads, he fails. Some of us said this was going to happen. Throwing Kizer out there to see what he has, equates to throwing your car keys to a 12 year old to see if he can drive. Kizer should have taken driver's ed before we gave him the keys.
DD, while I agree with you somewhat, I was in support of starting Kizer week one.
What I DIDNT expect was our RBs to not even get a combined 20 carries a game. Even teams with good experienced QBs give their starting running backs 15+ carries a game.
Hue was calling plays like Kizer was a 10 year vet, instead of calling plays to help the youngest QB in the league succeed.

I think it comes down to semantics. I think typically the HC picks his assistant coaches but it is the GM that actually writes out and signs the contract so that technically it is the GM that hires the assistant coaches.
Am I perfect? No Am I trying to be a better person? Also no

Yeah, Hue did him no favors as well. The Air Coryell stuff in the playbook didn't help either. The first read in that system is usually deep and is backwards from the way QB's usually make reads. Slow opening plays for a QB slow on his reads. Not a great fit.

Hue also patted himself on the back for his fortitude in going 0-16.
2017 rankings 9th overall in pass attempts per game (average) 28th overall in rushing attempts per game (average)
5th overall in passing percentage at 62% passing plays 28th overall in rushing plays 38% rushing plays
Makes me sick to my stomach. 62% pass plays with a rookie quarterback. If I've ever seen a recipe for disaster this is it.
i agree.
man, i'm not trying to be on some conspiracy stuff, but it almost seems as if Hue was trying to have Kizer look as bad as possible sometimes. some of the playcalling just didn't make a lick of sense.

I still don't think Hue Jackson will be our coach next year...can't see it.
I think Dorsey has his eyes on someone from KC, but ins't going to make any moves until they are out of playoffs. In the meantime he will keep Jackson just in case he can't convince his choice to come here.
I think Nagy or Toub is who Dorsey is wanting, but he ins't allowed to talk to them. Since its unsure yet if Dorsey can convince one of them to sign on, we hold on to Jackson until we are sure Nagy/toub is willing to come here. If they are not willing to come here, then I Guess were stuck with Huey...just have to wait and see.

If a team is putting a lot of defensive players in the box, should they run into it or try to make them pay?
Not picking on you swish, but I see people saying this a lot. If Kizer can't make a defense pay for selling out against the run, then there's no hope to opening up the run.

We're trying to throw the ball downfield and he checked the ball down to Trent Richardson and the Indians on the choice.

When we are averaging 4.5 yards a play, you keep rushing it. Once we start getting less than 4 a carry is when you start asking your QB to hold them accountable. (Especially when you have a young rookie QB)

Thanks for the civil response, I appreciate it.
I think it's a little more complicated then that. If the play caller picks a run when there's 10 guys in the box, is that good play calling? I don't think it is. Getting the D to stop selling out against the run opens it up.
Hue isn't perfect (far from it!). I don't think his play calling is as bad as people say it is. I also don't think Sashi was all bad either.

Maybe a little more complicated, but Minn called run all day against 9 in the box when they didn't have a QB. Of course they had a RB that was nicknamed All Day, but 4.5 a carry times 3 carries is a first down every time and those passing plays become easier when the defense starts to sell out against the run. Teams knew we were going to abandon the run every week.
Pick Analysis: "In 23 starts, what I saw this year, was that when the game got into the fourth quarter and the pressure got on, I thought he played his worst football because I think he was trying to do much. What I'd like to see happen is no pressure. They're gonna expect him to come in and compete. ... But I'd love to see him have a chance to be in a really good quarterback room, take his time and learn how to play this game." -- Mike Mayock"
Played his worst football when the pressure was on? Check. Tried to do too much? Check. Be in a really good QB room? Well - we gave him a couple 2nd year guys with a total of 0 NFL wins. Sooooo....yeah. Take his time and learn to play this game? Thanks Hue.
Fear us, for we are the BROWNS, led by the mighty BM! Only in Cleveland.
name one coach who could win with Kizer year one?...don't worry I'll wait.
I think the list is long, and I think that if he couldn't use Kizer, he could have had a louder voice of opposition.
still waiting for that long list..
Shanahan. Becuase he would have RAN the damned football instead of asking a rookie to throw the ball virtually every down. I LIKE Hue Jackson. I want him to succeed. But it doesn't take a genius to know that if you have they youngest QB in the league you don't ask him to throw the ball more than 20 times a game his first year.
Deputy, you can drop that YPC to a very pedestrian 3.4 and still get a first down every three plays.
Sure you can, but it gets a lot harder to call that 3rd running play when you are averaging 3.4.
No one MADE Hue proclaim our running backs to be the best he's ever been around. Besides, we didn't even TRY to run the ball. You want a running game you start in the preseason and you pound the rock and you keep pounding the rock until you have a running game. It takes DEDICATION. Hue doesn't do that. ALL he wants from the RB position is a couple of big plays. His main objective is throwing the football with a couple runs thrown in here and there. It was that way last year and even more so this year. The few times we were running the ball successfully Hue immediately went away from the run.

There are some reports surfacing that M. Lewis may not actually leave the Bengals. Perhaps this mean he may take a FO role or it could be Mike Brown posturing through the media for a Hue trade.
