That isn't what I asked. I think I asked what did his defenses look like at his other stops.
For example............did he play 3 linebackers on almost every single play of the year or did he go w/a nickle defense around 91% of the time?
Did he play his safeties as deep as he did this year or did he play more Cover 2 and Cover 3?
Btw--------I already know the answers. I am just trying to point out in a nice way that it's not very intelligent to ignore the talent one has on defense and put all of the blame--or success--on the coaching staff.
Bottom line is this year's GW's defense was run far differently than he ran in the past. I don't think he took a college class and learned new schemes. I think his personnel dictated how he aligned his defenses. And heck, I don't even like Gregg Williams. LOL
Actually that's the part of it that I have no explanation for. lol
You see, I can't and won't uphold Hue or Williams for the things they did wrong. And your description certainly shows something I can't and won't uphold.
I will however debate anyone who wishes to try to fault Williams for not playing this secondary tight. He simply didn't have the personnel to do that.
U wont need to have that debate with me ... i agree the personal wasn’t there, their or they’re ... the spelling/grammar police been out in full force lately ... i figure one of them is right spelling and grammatically wise ... ...
Both McCourty and BBC can play press coverage. Taylor was better last year in press than this year in zone. I don't fault GW for the scheme. I fault him for the same scheme on every stinkin play to the point teams knew exactly what was going to work on 3rd down every week.
Saying that we can't play a scheme we never try is a cop-out at best and a Yogi Berra-ism at worst. "Nobody goes there, it's too crowded!"
It's always funny that the first guy that claims that it isn't rocket science is never the rocket scientist in the room.

I've seen Yogi play along with Whity,Roger, and Micky in person. My favorite Yogi ism was him telling an umpire ( if you didn't hear that ball scoreboard then your blind)
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.
Yeah, a few highlight reels tell the story. Maybe you could come up with a few stat sheets too? lmao
Believe it or not football existed before 2017 and quite a bit of that film is those players you say can't play press coverage in press coverage.
McCourty didn't make the NFL top 100 because he didn't know how to play press coverage.
Do I think Kindred could play press? No. Peppers I have no idea on because he spent the season covering from the 12th row of the Dawg Pound.
So let me get this straight...
You don't believe in stats when they disagree... You don't believe what your own eyes see on film when it disagrees... You aren't able to back up all of this common sense that you have with links.
Why am I wasting my time with this discussion again?
How often did Williams play this type of defense w/the Rams? The Saints? The Redskins? Jacksonville? Buffalo? Titans?
I don't recall his defenses looking like this year's version. In fact, before the season cfrs was posting stats about how we would line up based on what GW did w/the Rams. Those looks were almost completely opposite of what Williams did this year.
This leads me to conclude that the talent on this year's D greatly influenced how GW ran his defense.
I get that the above doesn't fit the narrative of how we should fire our coaching staff, but I'm glad that Haslam is finally ignoring the fans who are wanting him to blow things up every two years.
I agree. IMO he played it that way to try to prevent the quick, over the top Td. Keep everything in front.
Cutting Haden when we did changed everything. I couldn't see any of the preseason games. Did we play that alignment in any of the preseason games? If not, this was a late adjustment to cover for that move. Who was playting FS in the preseason....I don't recall Peppers doing so....am i wrong?
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
If not, I don't think that was a secret weapon we were hiding. I think we wanted Joe to play corner....maybe McCourty to play FS and Peppers to play strong.
I just see that alignment as something Williams felt we were forced to do rather than something he wanted to do.
I remember something he said early on....don't let the ball get over your head fast. Once he saw that was likely to happen often, the plan changed. Keep it in front of you and make 'em play another play
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
I don't think I've seen a safety that deep in the NFL prior to this year except for end of game scenarios trying to stop Hail Mary's.
I don't hate the scheme. I understand that we had a lack of corner talent. What I hate was that it was the only scheme and we gave away easy first downs because of that.
Against a big armed QB it makes a lot of sense. Against Brett Hundley it makes no sense at all. When I saw it in the Steelers game I thought it was a brilliant gimmick. Little did I know it was our base defense.
We don't have the best corners, but they actually do know how to play press coverage. All we needed to do was to mix in a little press coverage once in a blue moon to keep everybody honest.

Gregg Williams said this on 12/15/17.....
Daryl Ruiter Verified account @RuiterWrongFAN Gregg Williams mentions that he's been forced to play zone this year more than ever - "you can figure out the reasons for that." #Browns
We stopped the run. Think about that for a minute before you knock Greg Williams. I can't remember the last time that was true. It was before the move I know that. I think all things considered our defense played pretty well. It was, after all, the very first year in this defense and we aren't ranked anywhere NEAR the bottom of the league as we have been in years past. Imagine these guys playing in the same system a second year... Imagine how good this D could be if our offense actually ran the ball once in a while. Actually gave the D a lead so they could T off on QB's once in a while...
Browns are ranked 14th overall on defense. Now THAT is an improvement! Passing we were 19th and run defense we were 7th in the league.TOP TEN against the run! 2016 we were right at the bottom 31st overall. Seems like Greg Williams improved this defense one hell of a lot in just one season.
You don't need a big armed QB to hit guys over the top for big gains if they are getting open 4-5 steps in to a go route.
OK...the receiver catches it 30 yards down field and then runs 50 for a TD. I don't see how that is different from catching it 50 yards down field and running it 30 yards for a TD.
Both are 80 yard TD passes.

That's not why you keep that safety back though. You keep the safety back so they don't throw it over your heads. You want that WR catching the ball in front of your safety. On the 30 yard catch where he runs another 50 the safety is just that much farther away to make the tackle.
Well didn't you know that an aging veteran can still play like he did in the past? That's what a highlight reel says. But we have posters that are smarter than Gregg Williams! Don't you read this board?
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
Both Dorsey and now Hightower are very good at evaluating and finding press style corners, they get it fixed. I’ll give Williams a pass on the defense cause he’s been successful at it for a very long time. And we did improve.
