This is the first one I've heard (besides the Gruden stuff):

Quote:
Former Bears’ OC Dowell Loggains is being hired as Dolphins’ offensive coordinator, per source.

Dolphins’ former OC Clyde Christensen likely to remain with team, transitioning to another role.

Yeah baby! That's what I am waiting for. Mayfield to let go of his crotch long enough to text Haslem that he wants to "wreck the league." And then some homeless guy the day before the draft will beg Jimmy, not for a dollar or a smoke, but to draft Mayfield. Worked a few years ago, let's do it again. Let's trade up to spot 22 in the first round, and get this mother back on the rails!!!!

Interesting since more Star Wars movies have come out in the last 2 years than wins by the Browns.

Maybe you should enter film school?

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Jon Gruden will be announced as the new Raiders HC. I guess that means no more QB Camp shows.

He better get them to a couple SBs with that kind of money.

Rumor was that they were offering a stake in the Raiders ownerwhip, but an owner/owners pushed back stating it was a slippery slope. I'm not sure how true that is, but it makes the 100m/10y more "justified", as he wasn't leaving his cush talking head position for a relative pittance.

I may just head down to the Browns game in Oakland next season...a win would be extra nice

Why is that insane? Teams routinely pay players a lot more than that. Mediocre QB's that never win the big game make more than that. Finding and keeping the HC you covet seems like a prudent use of money. There is no salary cap on staff. I've thought for a long time we should go after a big name coach. People say they won't come here. 10 years 15 million a year they will. Haslam is a billionaire. He can well afford to spend whatever it takes to get his guy. If Hue gets fired after next season I say we go after Cowher in a BIG way.

I think this has something to do with the move to Las Vegas....Make a huge PR splash and get interest started with LV people before the move. Maybe even try to retain Oakland fans with such a signing.

What I mean by insane is that the figure is ridiculous. There could easily be an out for the franchise, although I haven't seen the figures/breakdown. I think Davis wanted to shock the world with a signing like this. Also, a Gruden signing is risky. He has been out of the league for awhile and I never thought he was a top HC.

We'll see.

I think you are onto something about retaining the Oakland fan base. The fans there have always loved Grudin from what I understand.

It's certainly is a big investment in a HC. Like you said, drive up the buzz around the franchise before the move to Las Vegas. The moment the team moves to Vegas the value of the team is going to increase significantly thereby offsetting the liability of Gruden's contract.

If nothing else, it was a hell of a marketing strategy. Spend $100M on a HC everyone knows, generate a buzz and watch the team increase in value by $300M - $500M when they move.

Agreed. That's an incredibly high value, long term commitment for a guy who has been out of the game for a decade.

I still maintain that he inherited an incredible Tampa team and thoroughly ran them in to the ground.

I like Gruden, I don't think he's a bad coach, but I don't think he's one of the elite coaches of the game.

I just think that's a price they HAD to pay him if they wanted him. Gruden had no need to go back into coaching. He's had a cushy job and has a SB ring.

Unless you made him Richy Rich, why would he wish to go back to the grind of coaching?

I do believe those posters who look at it from the business point of view are very close to the truth. It creates a buzz and will put people in the seats along with increasing the value of the franchise. To the owners, those in coaching and NFL FO's, this is a business, not a sport.

Patriots bracing for Matt Patricia to exit, likely for Detroit
Posted by Mike Florio on January 6, 2018, 8:03 PM EST

The band is going to be breaking up, but not in the way that some envisioned.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Patriots are bracing for defensive coordinator Matt Patricia to leave, most likely to become the next coach of the Detroit Lions.

Patricia, who has a degree in aeronautical engineering from Rennselaer Polytechnic, joined the Patriots in 2004. He became the defensive coordinator in 2012.

Regarded as brilliant in all matters, Patricia also is believed to be more than ready to take over a team of his own. He has, we’re told, a very good relationship with Lions G.M. Bob Quinn, who previously worked for the Patriots.

One knock on Patricia came from his decision to wear the distinctive Barstool Sports T-shirt with an image of Commissioner Roger Goodell in a clown nose while exiting the team plane after Super Bowl LI. Goodell, as PFT reported in July, was still miffed about the gesture. However, it’s currently not believed that 345 Park Avenue will in any way try to throw a wrench into the process of the Lions hiring Patricia.

Of course, the Lions will have to wait until the Patriots’ season ends before hiring Patricia. The longer the job remains open, the more obvious a candidate Patricia will become, like Kyle Shanahan last year in San Francisco and Dan Quinn three years ago in Atlanta.

No head coach has ever won a super bowl with 2 different teams. It will happen at some point. Interesting to see if this is the guy.
