That's kind of a loaded question. lol

That's certainly not the road I would like to see us travel down. I do think Barkley is a high quality RB. However, I don't believe he is an Ezekiel Elliott. I'm certainly not a pro scout or expert talent evaluator but that's my opinion. I don't place that premium on him. There are a lot of very good RB's in this draft and I'm simply not sold on the value of Barkley that high in the draft.

I'm also of the opinion that we shouldn't settle for a single QB solution. I'm in favor of signing a FA QB combined with a first round QB pick. My preference is Josh Rosen in the draft. If we can land Minkah-Fitzpatrick at #4, or even if we feel we need to move up one spot to do it, I'd be thrilled.

Now that's my wish list. But bottom line is I'll be satisfied no matter what they do if it makes our team a winner. I'm not one of those posters that feels he knows everything that goes on behind the scenes and second guesses everything without knowing what really goes on in Berea.

So if the moves they make builds this team to being a playoff team in a couple of years, I'll be satisfied.

Tab, Eli would be a good mentor for a QB. But as a band aid to help us compete, I think that ship has sailed. His production is poor and his skills have diminished greatly. As the season has gone on, that's become painfully obvious.

It's not that I would really mind him coming here, but I don't think the name will match the production or the W's the fans expect.

I think this FO knows they need to win and they need to win now. I also think they know they need to get their QB of the future in the draft. With the football experience now in this FO, I expect them to go fast and furious in both directions to address the problem of the QB position. Both the FA market and the draft.

If they're strictly looking for a mentor, Eli is your guy. If they're actually looking for a bridge QB, I think that day has passed for Eli.

AJ McCarron has his grievance date set on Feb. 15th. It will determine if he's a free agent or a restricted free agent. If he's an RFA, he'll be tendered with a draft pick that a team will have to give up if they sign him. The Bengals also have the chance to match the contract.

Thanks for the good info CHS

The perfect bridge QB is probably Alex Smith. Sign him to 3 years, 50 million .. draft the QB of your choice

If you want a FA QB who you're looking at long term ... McCarron might be the only guy

Watched games on Barkley and IMO, which really means nothing, been right on players, been wrong on players, this kid looks like the real deal though. He’s better IMO then Elliot. He’s all the good Elliot is without any of the bad, off field stuff, he’s better in the pass game, more explosive, exceptional feet, the thing that sticks out to me about him and kind of reminds me of Barry Sanders is the kid just doesn’t take the big hits, always seems to just get the edge of the hard hits. This kid does look the best player in this draft to me. That being said, I’m not a big proponent on drafting a RB that high in the draft. Feel you can get as much production from a lesser drafted RB. This year has a lot of depth too. This kid looks like he could be special so it’s hard to choose.

I feel ya. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you when it comes to my opinion on Barley. I've had my share of hits on draft picks and my share of misses too.

If I saw Barkley the same way that you do, I would certainly share your opinion. And I do think he's a high quality RB. Our opinions just vary on his value.

I like Cousins. And I could live with the scenario you described.

No question Cousins, Fitzpatrick and Barkley would be a upgrade and help the team.

However, I am unsure that will be the course of action.

Washington and Cousins have options that the Browns can not control.

What I believe is Dorsey will trade for Alex Smith. Then he will draft Darnold who I believe will declare. Rosen will be a strong consideration but I believe Dorsey will lean toward Darnold.

The fourth pick will be up for grabs. Fitzpatrick, Barkley, OT, will all be under consideration.

Smith + Darnold (or Rosen) + Minkah
Smith + Darnold (or Rosen) + Barclay

Either or - looks pretty freaking good to me.

I know everyone is sick of trading - but if we landed Smith, I might be interested in Josh Allen. Smith easily has 3 years left in the tank.

Smith & Barclay & Minkah & Josh Allen .... I'd really be fine with that.

At this point we have to trust what Dorsey is doing.

The hiring of Highsmith appears to be a good hire.

Dorsey has had experience with Alex Smith. He will be available through trade. One of the second rounders should do the trick.

Smith + Darnold (or Rosen) + Minkah
Smith + Darnold (or Rosen) + Barclay

Any of these would work for me.

Alex Smith seems like a natural fit here. He can start and win games.

Kizer and Rosen or Darnold can be brought along at their own speed.

Barkley or Fitzpatrick would address immediate needs.

Dorsey in my opinion will be very logical in his approach to upgrade the talent of the team.

I seriously doubt that he will leave it up to a rookie quarterback to lead the team.

This is based on personal intuition or a source not named MKC? Not sure I would want McCarron to be my Mentor/"instruction" vet. We traded a guy who could have done that.
His season was not 0-16. So this is based on what? I am intrigued.

Finally we'll have our QB.

I was surprised to see them as the #3 D in the NFL...I thought they are aging a bit but good point about the D.

Wonder how much of that is Home games with the altitude???

Colin Cowherd had a piece that implored us to take Darnold

I didn't see this posted anywhere.

REPORT | Cleveland Browns GM John Dorsey has said to 'stay away' from UCLA QB Josh Rosen
ESPN had previously reported the UCLA quarterback would prefer not to play for the Browns.

On Sunday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen would prefer to be drafted by the New York Giants rather than the Cleveland Browns and could return to school in order to avoid the latter -- a claim Rosen didn't dispute when asked about it two days later.

As it turns out, however, Rosen may not need to fear a potential future in Cleveland. That's because according to Tony Pauline of DraftAnalyst.com, Browns GM John Dorsey might not even be a fan of the Bruins signal-caller.

Upon seeing Schefter's initial report, Pauline recalled a column he wrote in November -- two weeks before the Browns hired Dorsey to replace vice president of football operations Sashi Brown. In regards to Rosen, Pauline noted that two general managers had said to "stay away" from the former 5-star prospect.

When speaking about the signal caller, at least two general managers have said “stay away.” One general manager, whose team will likely end up with a top-12 selection and needs a quarterback, said he would not select him from his early off-the-field evaluations.
According to Pauline, one of those general managers was Dorsey, who spent four years manning the post for the Kansas City Chiefs from 2013-16.

Tony Pauline
@TonyPauline
I don't think Jon Dorsey cares- he was the one we mentioned as saying "stay away" from Rosen before getting the job in Cleveland http://draftanalyst.com/tuesday-draft-notes-110https://twitter.com/Rotoworld_Draft/status/944977356925661185
2:55 PM - Dec 24, 2017

Asked by WKYC for clarification on his tweet, Pauline confirmed that he was referencing Dorsey in his original story -- but also admitted he had not heard the comment firsthand from Cleveland's new general manager.

Tony Pauline
@TonyPauline
Replying to @BenAxelrod
Exactly. Did not say it directly to me but to a group of people including source who gave me Atlanta/Seattle trade week before draft.
4:37 PM - Dec 27, 2017

It's important to note Dorsey's comment appears to have been made off-the-record -- and was likely intended to be kept that way. Nevertheless, Pauline's revelation provides some potential insight into the Browns' early thoughts on the 2018 quarterback class, with Cleveland having already locked up the draft's No. 1 pick.

There is a reason why the period of time that leads up to the draft is known as 'lying season'

Team's guard their draft grades as if they were high level top secret classified documents.

GM, scouts and teams agents are only giving information to the media that suits their purposes.

Not sure where to put this ... there’s 8 QB threads on the board right now ...

Eli Manning - QB - Giants

Eli Manning confirmed he'll be back with the Giants in 2018.

"Yeah, obviously knowing I will be a New York Giant, that helped. Been told that, so that’s a starting point," said Manning. The Giants are committed to Manning for next season, though the veteran said he'd understand if the team selected a quarterback early in the upcoming draft. "Hey, whatever they draft I’m fine with," said the 37-year-old. "It’s about me doing my job and that’s playing quarterback." USC's Sam Darnold and UCLA's Josh Rosen could be in play for the Giants at No. 2 overall.

Yup, I watched some tape of him thanks to your suggestion.

I came away impressed. I dont think there is as large a delta between him and the "top" prospects. Quick impression reminds me of Goff/Webb. He and Laulleta really helped themselves with their play side by side with the top prospects at the Senior Bowl.

He's not my top prospect but would be happy with him as developmental QB.

Lol, okay.

Tyrod is the Rodney Dangerfield of QBs.
He's a lot like Alex Smith.

Are you serious or just being? Dude. If your QB evaluation leads you to that? You're seriously questioned now.

What the flick?

it's great you play the Evaluation Game. It's nice. But Gosh Damn Man. Pop the bubble.

Yep, he sucks.

While he may not be Brady, he's significantly better than what we've had. As a bridge QB, he'd be a nice addition.
