I am feeling much better about this season and the Browns. It has been shown over and over again that players that get into rookie camp on time do better as rookies and have better careers.

not only do they do better, but the feeling in the locker room is better, there is definitely a sense of respect when a rookie gets in on time, showing the commitment... i don't know from experience, but i've read things like this from several different places...
i mean, people understand that it's a business, and when you talk money, it's about your future, your family, and security, but i think it definitely sits well when a guy and his agent gets things done on time
i think that goes double for an offensive lineman, because of the chemistry factor, this guy wants to be there the minute his other guys are, and he wants to get the ball rolling...
i still don't understand the backlash towards quinn...
there are more first round guys not signed than there are signed (or at least it's close, because i know the signings are picking up)
i can just see it now, quinn gets in, his first throw is short and people will start calling him a bust...
he's our quarterback of the future and he needs to be with the team ASAP, regardless of whether or not he starts on the 9th, or whether or not you think he's going to start on the 9th... because pretty soon this will be his team...

Not sure where all the hate for Quinn is coming from. I don't like the kids attitude but I see nothing wrong in how he has conducted himself when it comes to his contract. All we hear is speculation from other people.
NFL network (sorry, can't exactly post a link to tv) said Thomas was a 5 year deal... did not catch the monetary value. Surprised it is just a five year deal, but maybe that was the sticking point- that much closer to FA.

i saw it coming the minute we drafted him... quinn taken at 22, we give up a 1&2, and he's obviously gonna want more money than your typical pick at 22, but hopefully both sides can meet halfway, the quicker he gets into camp the better, i think everyone is sold that he's not the starter, but i think the intensity gets brought a little more when the whole team is there, when the pads are on, and things are going a bit faster...
i actually thought thomas might hold out, but i'm glad i was wrong on that

On the eve of training camp 2007, the Browns have signed one their remaining unsigned draft picks, and are closing in on a deal with another, The OBR has learned.
Eric Wright’s father, Talim, has informed The OBR that the second-round cornerback reached an agreement on a contract a couple of hours ago and will be in Berea for the start of camp tomorrow.
The senior Wright said that his son was happy to be signed and is anxious to get to camp and get the football season started.
While the total value of the contract is not known, it’s believed that the corner received a signing bonus in the neighborhood of $1.5 million.
Additionally, Talim Wright tells The OBR that Joe Thomas, the third-overall pick who is represented by his son’s agent Peter Shaffer, is not yet signed but is expected to ink a deal before the start of camp tomorrow.
A Browns source has confirmed that Thomas is not yet under contract, but stated that the two sides “are extremely close to reaching a deal and it would be a huge surprise if (Thomas) were not in camp from the get-go. It would take something catastrophic for him not to be here.”
That would leave Brady Quinn as the only unsigned pick, and the same source says that the club is closing in on an agreement with the Notre Dame quarterback, but that “it’s not realistic to expect him to be in camp on time.”
Simmer down people...Quinn is the man of the future for our Browns. Hopefully he'll have a long and terrific career for us.
He has to take a certain amount of grief because of the expected holdout. I agree that as of now he is doing exactly what he has been told to do. His people state their desire to have BQ paid as a top ranked QB 1st round pick...even if he slid down to the latter half of the 1st round.
He'll be in soon as I mentioned above...if he is a good sport he needs to be the butt of a few veteran gags...and I believe he has the stuff to do it right!

Forgive me if I missed something, but wasn't the genesis of this argument (in this thread) a few commenting that Wright and Thomas were more important to have in camp than Quinn? I think I saw one or two posters call him an ass...but if I'm reading it right, I could care less about Notre Dame, and I don't really think all that highly of Frye...and I certainly think having Wright and Thomas in camp is much, much more important than Quinn. In fact, it might even be a blessing in disguise to have Quinn come in late, so that we don't have to see him until the season is already in the tank. Less pressure and strife while he takes his lumps and prepares himself for the NFL.
I am glad that Wright got inked because in all probability he will be a starter. I remain optimistic about Thomas but until I see an article that says Joe Thomas signed to 5 year deal I am going to remain pessimistic about the situation...

I think we should give Quinn bonus money on par with the deal Timmons signed with for the Steelers, and build in incentives to make it a $35 million deal overall.

Timmons signed a five-year contract that is worth slightly less than $12 million in base pay and up to $15 million, including incentives. He will receive various guaranteed bonuses of $8,053,000 that includes signing and roster bonuses.
Let Quinn sit until he realizes that he was chosen at the 22 slot. What we did to get him is our business. Otherwise, It was not really a good deal for us. Moss was taken in the twenties, although projected top ten. He got paid as a twenty something pick and proved he was worth it. Quinn should have to do the same.
I know what we believe he Might do for us, but he should have an incentive driven contract. He has done nothing as of yet and was not picked in the top three or ten. Also he would have probably slipped to the Ravens. Big payday difference!
Thomas and Wright are done deals. The Browns have been negotiating heavy with Condon today. I heard 3 weeks ago the deal was in place but the final 2 years are major sticking points as Condon was looking for an opt out clause if incentives were reached making it a 4 year deal instead of 5. It will be heating up tonight.
