The thing is that I don't see Barkley as a value pick at #1 or #4. I don't see him all that much better than guys we can draft at the top of the 2nd round. It's a deep RB class.
In a deep class, you can wait to gain better value for your pick.
Last year was a deep corner class. I wish we had drafted 1-2 more corners last year. Well lets look at last year. In a strong class of a position if you can get the Best of the bunch that is a homerun. So what if in that 2017 class we had a Standout HOF type of CB out there and being a strong class of 5-6 good CBs that could become Pro Boowlers.
Do you leave that HOFer and say...well its a strong class we can get One or Two more later on?
Well that is how I feel about the RBs. Definitely a strong class been saying it for a while now as during the season there has been discussion on Crowell and have said he is as good as gone as he will want to test the FA market and there is such a strong RB class we will take one instead.
Keep in mind we are talking about pick #4 not #1. #1 is going to be involved with a QB pick 99% sure. That is our priority. Only if we end up giving Cousins a long term contract...then I can see us trading #1 to the Bills for a Crap load of draft picks...jmho

Believe it or not it is possible the team will be worse in 2018 than in 2017.

It’s all gonna depend on how Dorsey sees the value at RB, so far in his career he hasn’t valued them that high, not having taken one in either the first or second round. Not saying it’s a given he wouldn’t but my thought would be, based on his tendencies so far, is that he would pass on a RB. But we’ll see. I personally think Barkley is special.

That's a weak ass stance. I'm not looking it up because I already know. When was the last time a Dorsey led team had an opportunity to take what one would consider a STUD at RB? I'm talking the Elliot and Fournette type. Top 5 caliber. Which is what Barkley is.

Believe it or not it is possible the team will be worse in 2018 than in 2017. Certainly not in W/L record. I'd be flabbergasted if we were not more competitive and grabbed a few (or more) wins...

Am I perfect? No Am I trying to be a better person? Also no

I wasn’t really taking a stance, just pointing out that Dorsey may or may not value the RB as much as some GMs. I don’t truly know the answer to that. I like Barkley, and while I’m not usually a proponent of taking a RB that high I would make an exception for Barkley, I think he is something special. He’s the first RB I’d like this high in the draft in some time and that’s including Fournette(who I liked), Gurly, and Elliot. I think Barkley could be a better prospect then any of those guys.

For those GMs that don’t value the RB as high as others I think it’s more so about how much more production do you get from a higher round pick then you would from a later round guy. Let me try to explain......
Leonard Fournette had 1040 yards on 268 carries and another 302 yards on 36 catches with 10 total TDs as a first round pick.
Kareem Hunt(I’ll use a Dorsey pick) had 1327 yards on 272 carries with another 455 yards on 53 catches as a third round pick
I’m not comparing them as a players or saying one is better then the other just pointing out that the thought process of some GMs in the nfl is that you can get the same type of production from a later round guy as you would from a high first round guy. Not saying I completely agree with that thought process, I think you could make an exception for someone you deemed to be special.
And I know you could say this about other positions as well it just seems that some guys think it’s an easier task to accomplish at the RB position, finding a guy who can produce at a later round pick that is. I guess they look at it like”do I want a RB who is gonna give me the same production as a third rounder, or do I want a safety(just an example) who’s gonna give me twice the production as a guy I take in the third”
I hope that come across the way I intend it to, I buy into it to a degree, but like I said, I’d make an exception for Barkley. Mostly cause I want to root for that guy as a brown and not done other team.
