I wouldn't trade Shaffer, unless KC wants to trade Larry Johnson straight up for him.

I think it's safe to say that's not gonna happen

of course!...as soon as the patent on the original all-purpose stupid pills was set to expire, they had to come out with new and improved, decision-specific pills...keep the revenue coming in, you know?...

"The Colts drafted Tony Ugoh to replace Tarik in the draft. Only team out there open for a trade might be the Giants or Dolphins."

Just some food for thought:
1. No way the Colts drafted Ugoh to be the LT starter in 07 not even a thought. They expected 2 more years out of Glenn and Ugoh a VERY RAW TALENT to learn and maybe play some RT in 08 before taking over for Glenn.

2. Ugoh is one of 6 2nd round picks still unsigned....now that Glenn is out ya think Ugoh's agent is putting the screws to the Colts?

I think The Colts are an excellent candidate for a trade partner regarding Shaffer.

It would be nice to have him for depth but we will go with Butler and Dorsey as OT depth. If we can get a first day pick for Shaffer that would be fantastic possibly a 2nd rounder considering the Colts desparation.

Besides...Shaffer is white and will have an edge in abusing the system and beating suspensions over Ugoh so right there is an added edge for the trade
lol

Colts drafted tony ugoh for a reason. Your probabaly going to get teased at for wanting to trade shaffer since we finnaly have depth at O-Line.

I got your back Stabber

Joe Thomas T Cleveland Browns
Height: 6'6' Weight: 313 DOB: 12/4/1984 Age: 22
Jul. 26, 2007 - 7:19 p.m. ET
Browns agreed to terms with T Joe Thomas, the No. 3 pick overall, on a five-year, $43 million contract. The deal includes $23 million in bonuses.
With Eric Wright also agreeing to a deal, Brady Quinn is the lone Browns draft pick left unsigned. Thomas, a marvelous pass blocker, should be the team's starting left tackle right away. If he progresses quickly, the Browns may consider shopping incumbent LT Kevin Shaffer to the Colts, who recently lost Tarik Glenn to retirement, or re-opening trade talks with the Giants

j/k

After what happened last year I wouldn't trade any lineman.

Depth isn't a bad thing. you can never have too many good players.

No problem. That's why I never type in source or link. I use the actual url so people can see where it comes from before they even open it.

The problem with the Browns "depth" is that they have a second unit basically made of guys who want to be starters, and could be very pissed if they aren't.

That is a big part of building a team. You have to have enough separation between the first team guy and the second team guy to make it work.

It rarely lasts longer than a contract cycle.

I agree with what you are saying, I also think that is how you get better quality starters. The best man wins the job. Any good NFL backup knows that he could be called on to step in on the next play and it might be for a down or a game or a season. I'd perfer that the talent/abilty drop off from the starters to the backups be a small step down. In the past it has seemed a little steeper and we know the results all to well.

I myself would like keep Schaffer but I'd entertain more than reasonable offers if I felt it could helps us win now and in the long term.

As for guys getting pissed, winning games would cure that real quick.

I agree with you. I just think it's case of too many chiefs, not enough Indians. To have a guy like Tucker, Shaffer, Fraley, on the bench is a great luxury, if the guy buys into it, and accepts the role. I guess I just have my fears that there is not enough youth there. Of Sowells, Matua, and Smith, I think only one makes the team. I just wish we had some young ones in the waiting, esp at RT.

It is all going to shake out in TC and preseason. Sowells probaly has the best shot to make it out of the three.

It does feel good reading about depth on the O-line as opposed wondering if we have had enough. I just felt we have been going on the cheap for so long on the O-line that we are due for a little luxury there.

Not to mention McKinney, and Friedman have one year contracts, Butler has a two year deal and Tucker could be very near the end of his career. If Sowells can't step up ( I don't see Matua or Smith making the team) we can be in need for depth next year again.

I understand and saw your later comments.

This is a concept that escapes most. People just want to stock good players....we all do, but in building a team you have to have players who understand their role and buy into the team concept.
If a guy isn't willing to do that, you are better off letting him go one way or the other and keeping someone with a little less talent.

This attitude same take that the player will just have to get over it and be happy with a nice payday sounds great, but the reality is that it usually doesn't work.
