I've heard a rumor about a potential trade involving the Cavaliers that would send thier 2008 1st round pick to Sacramento.

My question is, can the Cavs trade a 1st rounder after trading away 07's 1st round pick? I know there's some stipulation in the CBA about trading picks in consecutive years, how and when does that rule apply?

Thanks.

i'm not sure, but i really doubt the cavs are sending a first round pick to sacto for, i'm guessing, mike bibby...

not unless there is another team involved and we're getting someone that was just drafted...

I figured it out, but thanks.

Under the CBA the Cavs can trade 08's 1st round pick, which would force them to keep 09's 1st round pick.

I was told there's a deal in the works that might send Bibby AND Marion to Cleveland via a three way deal with Phx. But, that's just speculation from some Cavs insider.

Ok....you know someone on the Browns and someone on the Cavs. Who are you? Mark Shapiro?

You cannot trade two consecutive future first round picks. You have to have a pick every other year. You can trade that pick, after you select a player, but you cannot trade two consecutive future picks.

What if you get a first round pick back in return?

It also seems like the Knicks have traded away their first round picks for years.

The team has to have a first round pick in one of the two years. It doesn't have to be their own, it can be any teams. Plus, you can make the pick for a team, then trade it under the CBA, you just have to make a pick in the first round.

Plus, even though the Cavs didn't have a pick in this past draft, they can trade the upcoming first rounder. You cannot trade back-to-back future first round picks.

So the answer then is "yes" we could trade next year's #1 for Mike Bibby?

Not sure that I would WANT to though.

Yeah, the Cavs could trade their first round pick for Bibby if they so desired.

I would give up our first rounder if we got Bibby and Marion out of the deal. I dont know about a first rounder for just Bibby.

yeah, bibby alone isn't worth a first round pick, not that he isn't a bad player, because i think he's a very good player, but the fact remains that sacramento wants to dump his contract, if the cavs want bibby, they shouldn't have to give up anything too good, not a first round pick, not a boobie gibson, nothing like that...

now if you throw in marion i can see that...

i don't see that though, that would be one hell of a team though, hughes would be out, i would imagine?

The problem with dealing Hughes is he has a huge contract. I think right now because of that you are not goojng to get fair value for him.

and that's why i can't see a trade like that going down...

if we were to pull in shawn marion and mike bibby, larry hughes would have to be out, and why would sacto want to dump a bad contract for another bad contract with more years?

No I think maybe it would be Hughes and our first for Bibby and Marion. The First pick going to Cowtown and San Antonio getting Hughes. You are xactly right that Sacramento doesnt want that huge contract. They are trying to rebuild and are trying to dump money not take more on.
