I saw this movie at 12:01 this morning at Valley View, and I have to say it was freaking fantastic!
I've been a huge Simpsons fan since it first came out. I went into the movie completely blind. I didn't watch a single preview or read a single review before I went in.
I laughed throughout the entire movie, as did my wife and best friend, and the entire theater, so this isn't just me justifying it because I'm a huge fan. It was a really funny movie.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

This movies is coming out way too late. The show peaked in it's 4th, 5th, & 6th seasons.
That said, as a die hard fan, it is still my duty to go see this movie.
And doesn't it bother any fans who've seen the trailers and TV spots, that they have President Swartzenegger instead of President Wolfcastle? Every true Simpsons fan knows that Renier Wolfcastle (McBain) is just a Swartzenegger parody. They didn't even alter the voice for it.
That's nit-picky me, for you.

So an entire theather full of people who camped out to be the first people to see the movie aren't really huge fans either?

lol, point taken. I know that when I saw Star Wars Episode I, the people there were extremely die-hard Star Wars fans, and you could tell they were disappointed in the movie.
This movie last night, though, people were really laughing. My wife is a fan, but not a die-hard, and she was doubled over laughing at points.
Yeah, there were slow points in the movie, but I haven't seen many movies that didn't have a slow point or two.
Overall, I thought it was a really funny movie, plain and simple.

I can see that... can you imagine how tired Homer's got just filming this spider pig scene? Must have taken DAYS to get it right. Then they have to clean the ceiling between shots, etc... very time consuming..... and I hear Maggie held out in contract talks for a while too (Condon is her agent).

I saw the movie and I thought the first 20 minutes or so were hilarious but the rest was pretty bad.

It was everything I thought it would be, it was great!
Still wish the movie was made about 10 years ago though. Then it would have been even better.

As I said earlier in this thread, I think the show peaked around seasons 4, 5, & 6 and started turning REALLY bad around season 9. These days I think the show is at its all time worst and there MIGHT be a strong show or two per season. All that said, I went into the movie w/ super low expectations and ended up LOVING it. It was so surprisingly good. There were some slow parts, but for the most part it was GOOD. There are two many good and funny parts to mention. The biggest negative for me was the horrible lack of screen time for Mr. Burns. He should have been featured MUCH more. They assembled writers from every era of the Simpsons for this movie. If they used this team for the actual show, it would be totally resurrected and I'd be very excited to watch new episodes again. If not, then I always have Seasons 1 through 8 on DVD.
