This is kind of a spin-off of the Vet QB thread in Pure Football.

If we landed a free agent vet who would expect to be "the guy" (Cousin's, etc...) and not a stop-gap for a highly-touted, top of the draft, "franchise" QB, what QBs, if any, would you consider in rounds 2 and later ?

Please note, this discussion has nothing to do with Hue Jackson's coaching ability, Sashi Brown, or Jimmy Garoppolo. wink

Luke Faulk.

However, we already have Kizer - he may well develop if sat.

Kizer blows. Who honestly thinks he is part of our future as a starting QB?

I am really only wanting to see names of the lower tier QBs everyone is intrigued or impressed by.

How “late” are you talking about? I like Rudolph in the second or third, and another guy who could move up a bit, possibly even as high as a second but probably later then that is Mike White from western Kentucky.

You got that right Pastor. Quit screwing around and get us a good QB. Preferably a young Francise QB. Look how other teams have got their young QB and turned it around. Rams, Dallas, Huston, Philly, Oakland, SF and probably Chicago.

I think the question comes into play if we sign Cousins. In that scenario, I could see not taking a Qb #1. If we don't take a Qb #1 then I would definitely want to draft another developmental Qb in the mid rounds.

Kizer was and still is a developmental quarterback.

I would still take a shot at Rudolph.

He has many characteristics that you look for in a quarterback. And under the circumstances you stated he would be a strong consideration.

* There is so much we have zero control over in regards to Cousins that I doubt the question will be raised.

I like the spirit of your thread, but frankly, I really don't hope we utilize this strategy. I want the Browns to draft a qb w/their first overall pick. I think it would be a huge mistake to not do so.

The second and third year are the years that QBs will make the biggest improvements of their game. They now have a full off season, 5 months to dedicate fully to their craft. Kizer can sit down and study the playbook more, meet with Tom House again, and continue offseason workouts with the WRs. I think he'll be better than any late round QB in the draft. I think we should cut Kessler and sign a vet QB.

We landed Cousins, correct?

Then NOONE.

There's not another QB in this draft that has the positive things that Kizer has.

You groom Kizer and make him your #2 QB.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Mid to late Round QB'S are a WASTE of a Pick.

Been told Riley Ferguson weighed in under 200. Slim frame for a 6-4 QB

A QB room with Cousins, Mason, and Kizer would be a great situation to me. Mason and Kizer can take their time to develop and push Cousins to perform or be replaced at the end of his new contract. Plus our draft picks can be used on immediate impact players at #1 and #4. Although I would try to trade down from #1 if we sign Cousins, although not out of the top 10.

Agreed. I'd prefer signing a veteran. Drafting a QB at 1. And keeping Kizer.

We've done the mid-first round QB a few times (the dreaded 22 pick).

Time to do some heavy scouting (and we have the guys to do it) and find the best for us and get them. Rosen or Darnold it is

Only way I wait to a later pick is if Cousins signs a 3-4 year deal.
( Ain't happening ) I would probably take Allen if he was still there AFTER our first two picks. If its any other Vet out there I take my guy at ONE.

Can we move up in the first to get a dropping Mayfield (still say that height thing will have him drop)

Again only if we sign Cousins do we not take a QB in the top 5 probably top 1.

If we sign Kirk I am all for taking a QB after moving back up into the first so we can have that 5 year rookie deal. I mean you never know what will happen with Kirk. Not all QBs have such long careers like Tom Brady. This is a great year to draft a guy and let him sit for 4 years behind Kirk. After all if Kirk ever gets injured and we are making a post season push then we want a great guy behind him.

Just MHO.

SLEEPER (Grain of salt) ALERT wink

Report: WKU's Mike White 'a favorite' of John Dorsey

A sleeper quarterback has emerged for the Browns.
Josh Edwards - 54 minutes ago

Western Kentucky quarterback Mike White (6-foot-4, 225) is a favorite of Cleveland Browns General Manager John Dorsey according to DraftAnalyst.com.

"After breaking down the WKU film this past weekend, I was incredibly impressed by White’s poise, patience, accuracy and overall awareness. I’m told he’s a favorite of Cleveland Browns general manager John Dorsey," Tony Pauline said.

White is one of eight quarterbacks participating in the Reese's Senior Bowl next weekend.

The Florida native completed 368-of-560 passes for 4,177 yards, 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions as a senior.

The Browns have twelve draft choices in the 2018 NFL Draft including the No. 1 and No. 4 overall selections. The team is expected to add at least one and, more likely, two quarterbacks this off-season. A veteran quarterback is expected to come via free agency or a trade. Cleveland selected Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer with the No. 52 overall selection in last year's NFL Draft. However, he had an inconsistent rookie season.

Cody Kessler and Kevin Hogan are the other two quarterbacks on the roster.

I guess a possible pick if we sign Cousins.

Cousins, Barkley and then Fitzpatrick is a real possibility.

Kid sure has an arm in this highlight video. You might want to mute it though before you watch it.

Here are some others I found

He looks interesting. He might hold the ball for too long though.

That’s actually music to my ears, I really like what I’ve seen from this kid and have been kinda pimping him. I liken him to a David Carr type of situation, he more then likely won’t go in the first round but could be a very good pick. That’s assuming a vet like Smith or McCarron(probably not Cousins though), is brought in to hold the reins till he is ready, cause it will take at least a year.

I would not be surprised to see us get a FA Veteran QB, Draft 1 at 1/4 and then draft another in rds. 5-7 ... JMHO

Why do we 'need' to draft a later round QB? We've already got Hogan (whose potential we don't really know) as a 3rd stringer. Seems to me that we would be wasting a pick, although admittedly, one of low value...

Agree on Hogan considering Dorsey is the one who drafted him. But even then we'd still have 4 QBs after Kessler is released who I don't really think has a chance to remain.

Kizer most likely the 3rd stringer in that scenario, not Hogan

Allen had a good 3rd quarter. Both his TDs were beautifully thrown balls. The first, in tight coverage was picture perfect.

However, beyond the big names...I was really impressed with Lauletta and White. Of the two, I like Lauletta.
