Republicans control congress and executive. We have never had a shutdown in modern history where one party controlled both of those things. Why can't the republicans gather the votes necessary to get this done?

Today is the day where Democrats decide Last Thursday was the time for 45* to have signed the bipartisan bill that came to him. Money for border security (which he wanted). Protection for the Dreamers (which he promised). Instead, he allowed his last thought to be implanted by Steven Miller and Tom Cotton... and the very next thing from him is "s#hole countries." If this whole thing shuts down, there will blame enough to spread far and wide.

I wonder if we'll end up with some republicans voting against the CR. Republicans passed it in the house. But there aren't 60 Republicans in the Senate and 60 votes is required to pass this. Democrats must vote for it or shut America down. Thought you would have known this. We can of course fix this by electing more Republicans to the Senate in 2018.

I should point out, he said that on FOX and they agreed with him. It's also fair to note that several (3 I think) republican senators have said they would vote no on what's in front of them (as of a couple of hours ago, you know how fast things can change) So it doesn't matter what Democrats do. You should know that I just saw on TV that Shumer and Trump are meeting at the White House right now. You may also remember that Trump, in a very public meeting with both senators and Reps from both parties earlier this month said he'd sign whatever they brought him as long as it was Bi-Partisan. Durbin and Graham brought him a Bi-partisan solution. he blew it up.. Wouldn't sign it. And it's said that he made racial slurs during that meeting. I believe it. So this whole "blame the Democrats" thing is just smoke and mirrors. It's just Trump being Trump. Did you ever hear or see him take responsibility for ANYTHING that wasn't positive? Do you know of anyone who has Nothing but POSITIVES in their lives where nothing has ever gone wrong and they've never made a mistake? Neither have I!

Obama sat on his hands in 2013 and refused to negotiate to prevent the shutdown. He was happy to let the Republicans shut it down. Political Points scored.
