I saw the new front Office Thread was heading to page 10. We have read a lot of articles but this is the Dorsey Presser - hear it from the horses mouth not Mary Kay and others.

It also tells us a bit about our new guys, Haley (OC), Amos (Special Teams) and Kitchen (RB and asst head coach).

http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/arti...b7-1e959a1f66d1

This is the presser where Dorsey states he has not even talked with Rosen yet that people are putting out FAKE NEWS stating he has said to not draft Rosen. Of course this was asked by Mary Kay.
100 mil in cap space. He is also most PRUDENT in his choices we aren't just going to spend $$ for the sake of it being there...we are not Congress.

Can't wait for it to be a good thing to be a HOMER again...
wink

As I have said this is the best I have felt about the Browns in a long long time.

Dorsey and his group, meaning all those involved in the evaluation of players are all solid professionals.

The coaching staff; all these guys have the reputation within league circles as coaches who help players get better.

The experience level is outstanding.

Now begins the process of acquiring talent.

I am confident it will happen.

When OTA's begin this will be a different team. And for once I will be excited for the season to begin.

Feel great about this group of hires overall. Why the devil is MKC trying to stir up more garbage with the artificial news? So stupid and so bush league. I have pretty much tried to avoid reading her; not news, just her opinion and artificial controversy she wants to write. Beats covering a beat. And why toss mud and shade on a new hire with this crap.

Do your job. Better.

I agree. This is the best I felt about the Browns in a long time.

Getting rid of Sashi and Grigson and replacing them w/Dorsey, Highsmith, and Wolf was outstanding. I thought Haley was an odd fit, but it sounds like they have a mutual respect and having another successful voice in the building is a good thing.

We have a ton of money and picks.

Things are looking up for Brown's fans.

I know this is off topic but Pete Prisco is such a hack. He is on the Mike Florio, never played on any level, taking shots in the dark level hack. Chris Fedor is a never played hack but at least he has a brain.

Prisco LOVES Sashi and Mayfield. Two dudes I wouldn't touch!

I am pretty excited about who we have, I like analytics. I think it does matter when projecting players but "Money ball" is a disaster in the star driven NFL. I hope this FO keeps a balance.

I like the FO hires, I just am so beaten down by failure that I have to see it work before I believe it.

I mean, we are 1-31 ....

Do we have the assets? Surely. We'll see how it pans out

I think Jimmy Haslam deserves the world of credit.

To be honest, my only concern is how these men will work together. It really is an All-Star front office and coaching staff. They're all brilliant, but with that comes confidence in their perspective. Not saying it all happen, but I hope there isn't too many cooks in the kitchen.

With that out of the way, Haslam took a lot of heat for failing to assemble the talent required to put enough talent on the team. He's done an admirable job in the face of heavy adversity to bring this many people in to the organization who can make positive contributions. Of all the changes made to the organizations this year, I wouldn't trade what the Browns have done for any other team's respective vision.

Exciting times, indeed. Especially when this much talent has this much to work with. The picks and the money alike, but I also think this roster has much more talent than most give credit for. It's a lot to work with.

As Joe Thomas wrote, this is the fun part of the re-build, and there is no reason a playoff run going forward isn't possible.

Cleveland Browns Won’t Be Starting From Scratch in Evaluating the Draft’s Top Quarterbacks

MOBILE, Ala. — John Dorsey hit three or four milestones along last year's draft process with Patrick Mahomes, but the big one—the one that put Mahomes over the top—came April 5 in Kansas City.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid, offensive coordinator Matt Nagy and assistant quarterbacks coach Corey Matthaei met with Mahomes at the start of his six-hour pre-draft visit, and took him through elements of the team’s playbook. At the end of the day, the coaches summoned Mahomes back to see how much of what he learned in the morning he actually retained.

“He was pretty good. He was pretty good,” Dorsey said Wednesday, from the Ladd-Peebles Stadium concourse, as the North team practiced for Saturday’s Senior Bowl. “He could learn. He was really smart. And if you go back and look, he was Big 12 All-Academic three years in a row. It’s another piece of the whole puzzle you’re trying to put together. But I think that’s pretty important.”

Three weeks later, the Chiefs traded the 27th pick, their third-rounder and their 2018 first-round pick to move up 17 slots and draft Mahomes 10th overall.

A lot has changed since. That was nine months ago. Dorsey didn’t make it to summer in Kansas City, and has since taken over as general manager in Cleveland. But this remains the same: He’ll be spending the next few months looking for a similar moment of clarity on the draft-eligible quarterbacks.

In this week’s Game Plan, we’ll hit a little bit of everything. We’ll go to the Patriots’ division rivals to see what life in the NFL goliath’s shadow is like. We’ll check in on the Giants and Pat Shurmur. We’ll explain why the Eagles’ trade of Sam Bradford had a massive trickle down effect on the franchise. We’ll go to John Elway on Baker Mayfield. And we’ll look at the rich free-agent quarterback market.

We’re starting here in this Gulf Coast city, and with the guy who arrived holding all the cards. Dorsey goes into this draft season armed with two of the first four picks, five in the first two rounds, and 10 in the first five rounds, and that’s without even getting to the nine figures of cap space the Browns project to carry.

But chances are, Dorsey’s ability to make it work in Cleveland, a place so many others couldn’t, will ride largely on his ability to get the first one right. That’s because, while he won’t yet commit to taking a quarterback (“Best available player,” he said when I asked him about that), the assumption is the Browns will. And that means chances are Dorsey will be tying his professional future to that player.

“Stress is self-induced,” Dorsey said with a smile, when I asked if he’s feeling the pressure. “You can’t worry about it. Control what you can control.”

He’s comfortable, because he’s done the work. Without a job, the ex-Chiefs GM spent the fall studying about seven hours of film per day. Mondays and Tuesdays were for pro scouting; Wednesday, Thursday and Friday were for college scouting. Then, on plenty of Saturdays, he’d head out to live-scout a nearby college game.

• ALBERT BREER: Mayfield, Allen and the prospects to watch at the Senior Bowl

One of those was Oklahoma vs. Kansas in November, which happened to be the afternoon of Baker Mayfield’s infamous crotch grab. After Dorsey took the Browns job, he saw USC’s Sam Darnold live in the Cotton Bowl. And this week presents Dorsey’s first live exposure to Wyoming’s Josh Allen, leaving UCLA’s Josh Rosen as the only presumptive top four quarterback who Dorsey hasn’t yet seen in person.

Dorsey told me he’s also watched eight games of tape on each of the four, and when I asked if he believes they’re all high first-round picks, he didn’t stutter. “From a talent perspective, each in their different way, with what they bring?” he said. “Yeah, I do.”

So clearly, Dorsey and the Browns aren’t at square one with the quarterback prospects. But as Dorsey’s experience last year with Mahomes would indicate—we’re still more than two months away from where the Chiefs were when they brought him in last April—they’re not close to a conclusion yet either.

“We’re just in the beginning stages,” Dorsey said. “I don’t want to say it’s a five-phase, six-phase plan, but I think there are steps involved in this thing that lead you all the way up to the draft, to where hopefully, if we do this right, we get a good player and there’s unanimous consent and everyone’s on board. …

“It’s the same process (as it was with Mahomes). We all know the NFL is a quarterback-driven league nowadays, so you have to do the deepest research with regards to that position. We’ll have some plans in place to see if they fit what the Cleveland Browns want in that position. We’ll go about it that way. I’m too old now, I’m not going to change, I’m going to do it the way I know best.”

So after this week, that’ll likely mean meeting with the four quarterbacks privately at the combine, going to their campuses to work them out, and then bringing each in for a Top 30 visit.

At this point last year, Dorsey and Reid knew that Mahomes had rare tools, and a ways to go developmentally. Which made what they learned from this point forward—that he could absorb teaching, retain information and grow—just as important as the skills the Texas Tech junior brought to the table.

It makes sense, then, that the same will go for Darnold, Rosen, Allen and Mayfield this time around. Can Darnold, with his funky delivery, work as a cold weather quarterback? Can Rosen grow up personally and hold up physically? Can Allen learn at the rate Mahomes proved he could? Can Mayfield manage his outbursts? Can the Browns build an offense that works for him?

• TIM ROHAN: How two friends in China are feeding the Eagles’ underdog craze

All those questions still need answers, and that’ll make the next few months interesting as he decides who the “best available player” is. As for the chance it’s a quarterback?

“That’s such a hypothetical, you’ll have to just say, ‘let’s wait til the day of the draft,’” Dorsey said. “You never know.”

The Browns new GM was laughing as those words came out, because, of course, he does know. And we all know how important it is for Cleveland to get this one right.

This stood out to me. Gotta respect the passion the man has for talent evaluation and watching film.

Yeah, it's starting to drain on me. Although I do like Dorsey and the staff how it's unfolding, it's hard to get excited. It's hard to get excited because we're the Browns, and we're exactly who we are, the Cleveland Browns... regardless of staff.

You have to feel good about the work Dorsey will put into finding our QB. I don't think there's any question anymore that he will draft one. And I feel fairly confident that he will make the right decision on who to take.

We have 3 or 4 guys in our front office that are very highly respected around the league. It's a bit of experience but also these guys are hungry. I love it.

Hue has sucked but he continues to add to his staff with veteran coaches that have a knack for getting everything out of the players they work with. Saunders, Haley, Williams, Wylie, zampese, Henry.

I will continue to rip the guy until he does something more than telling us how great he is. A stud receiver to go with Gordon and Duke would be huge. A QB that can hit guys in stride would make hue look genius.

A pair of physical corners and Williams can turn this front seven loose. Anyway sashi screwed up a ton but with damn near 120 mil in space and 4 of the top 35. We are in position if done right to go on a cowboys type run with Jimmy Johnson.

I think I’ll curb my enthusiasm until I see how this thing looks like moving forward, I’m not a Hue fan, or sold on Todd Haley just yet. Dorsey has had a good track record so far, but this is the Browns. Dorsey and the FO look good on paper but I’ll wait till some moves are made in free agency and how we look in the draft before I pass judgement. Wait and see mode......

Hey, 'Peen, we are undefeated at this point! Crow while the sun is up, my man!

Really, I hate when i have stirrings of optimism with new hires, the Combine coming up, FA talk, trades, the Draft and all. But I will enjoy it while it lasts. Here's to Dorsey!

As a Cleveland FAN, cam checking myself into about an eighteen-step Koolaid addiction intervention program. Some year it will help, I believe. But then again, there is little as sobering as being a die-hard Browns fan.

Go, Browns!

Agreed.

For the most part i've felt positive after every change since we came back in 1999. What sets this change apart from others?

Gotta love the $$$ situation and the picks we have.

One thing I do like is that Hue only has to wear 1 hat. Not 2 hats. Not 3 hats. Not 4 hats. Not X amount of hats. Just 1 hat. The one that says "Head Coach". He's got 2 toughguy coordinators in Williams and Haley to hammer it home on each side of the ball. Hue, whilst wearin the HC hat can play the middleman/peacekeeper. Perfect scenario imo. Kinda/sorta like playin good cop/bad cop with the players. Imo a perfect scenario.

It's been said on these boards that they need to win 7 games for Hue to keep his job. The way I see it 7 games is still a pipe dream but add 3-4 victories to the 3-4 victories they coulda won last year and.........voila.

True, winning is the key and the cure all.

Hue is doing it the right way. He got an accomplished DC who has experience and already did improve our Defense in year ONE under his leadership. Keep in mind Hue actually has/had an idea on what D and O he wants for us.

Now he has gone out and gotten an experienced and successful OC.
This is how it is suppose to be done. Hue will still involved in the game plans for both. The team is made in his image.

Also I know he got a lot of heat on his talk about not getting an OC for last season as we were not set up to win. I sort of understand what he meant.

It would have been a disservice to not give said OC last season the QB room that we did. Hue took the hit on that one. Now we are ready in year 3 to make the move.

Dorsey has built a good to great staff, proof will be in the pudding whatever that means to Brits...lol laugh

Hue has gotten the guys he wants and now can oversee the team knowing he has qualified Coordinators.

This is scary good. Scary as in, Can this be true.

Unfortunately I'm putting myself into the Hospital ER tomorrow as things have taken a turn for the worse.

Figures, I might miss this.
