I think neither. We would have to trade for him.

Maybe KC will give us a 2nd and Smith like the Texans after all they are in cap trouble (-14, 168, 283 32nd in NFL) going into 2018 and they owe Smith approx. $18 Million ... hummmm

I don't know what Dorsey will do. I have been thinking about it quite a bit and I have come up w/several scenarios which at the end of the day, tells me that I have no idea what he will do. Hmmmmm. Former KC Executive and TB GM, Mark Dominik seems to think that Smith could be had for a Mid Rounder due to the amount of QB'S hitting the market and the Quality in the Draft. Along with his age. Hmmmmm. Smith for our 3rd Round Pick and Darnold or Rosen? Ink Jarvis Landry? Guice or Ronny Jones USC RB?

I'd have Kirk as our Top Priority but Smith would not be a bad pick up and would be my next choice. It's a tough call though. If we take Kirk then we are building to win NOW. If we take smith then we might just be biding time until the QB we take at #1 is ready and then going crazy in FA to win then instead of now.
I'd rather win now and have that be our focus so that is why I prefer Kirk...

I think he is saying that we end up with both. We get Smith for a 3rd, and we get either Darnold or Rosen. I do not think he meant we trade Darnold/Rosen and our 3rd round pick for Smith.

If you draft Smith (who is 33) you are hoping to improve your winning percentage immediately but realistically only expecting to get a few years out of him.. so you need to be taking a QB at 1. If you are willing to pay Cousins (who is 29), then you are expecting him to be the starter for the next 7-8 years.. so if you are going to do that, do you take a QB at 1? If you do then that doesn't say you have a lot of faith in taking Cousins..

It's so hard to get it right on QB's even for the best football people. Cousins is a PROVEN QB. He is no Tom Brady but then there isn't one in the draft either. If we sign Cousins then we don't draft a QB in the top 15. Someone will give us a ransom to move down from #1. I would hope we stay in the top 10. So many possiblities. If we cant sign Cousins THEN we move on to Smith. #1 pick will be our QB of the future. I am guessing it will be darnold or mason. I know everyone has their own opinion. I got it =) This move gains us the time to train that #1 pick properly but we lose out on a lot of draft capital. If we don't sign Cousins OR Smith then we are in for a world of sucky and I will leave it at that.

I trade for Smith and draft QB's at Number 1 and at Number 4. I mean if your going to do it may as well do it up big I wouldn't trade anything for Smith and his 1 year 17 million contract. KC can't afford to keep him as he's a 20 million cap hit on them in 2018. I'd wait for them to cut him. Then throw 17 million at him if you want to, but get to to sign something longer than his current contract.

And even if he did reach the open market, there is no guarantee he would sign.

I don't think it's a problem at all (contract-wise) to trade for Smith, as long as you've used #1 on your QB of the future. I have no problem pushing that headache to the next year when your future franchise guy has an NFL season under his belt.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

While I'm not against an Alex Smith signing, I would prefer to keep a 2nd round draft pick, and use our cap space to secure the QB position.
Burn the avalanche of cap space, not the multitude of draft picks. Mainly second round. If you hit on a second round pick, you get him for 5 years, not the 4 with a first round pick.

1st is 5 years, not 2nd round. 2nd is 4. Yup. It's what makes jumping to the end of the first such an advantage (as we did last year w Njoku) You get that extra fifth year option. I bet Njoku will be one of those candidates
