That eliminates the ambiguity of Cousins not receiving a franchise tag and being available.

Unless he doesn't want to come to the Browns, pay Cousins. Then again, that makes too much sense, so it probably won't happen.

Good. I was tired of hearing about him and all other quality vets who do not want to come to Cleveland.

So this means:

Kirk Cousins is a free agent

Patrick Mahomes is the starting QB for the Chiefs

Pretty sure Cousins doesn't want to come here.

There will never be any quality vets who want to come here.

Let's keep it real.

Eve, Smith was not a free agent. He had a year left on his contract. He had to either be traded or released and he is too good to be released.

Cousins is a free agent for a reason. If Washington loved him they'd have found a way. (Jay Cutler was looking for a place to play, last time I checked.)

That doesn't make any sense. Why wouldn't KC shop around for the best offer? Why make a trade a month and a half before they can anounce it?

I just want a winner. We need players who can be part of the solution not part of the problem.

Yeah, but pretty sure if he got traded here against his will, ....he'd be BOING OUTTA HERE as soon as he could. Maybe even to the point of being sour about it like Osweiler was.

So what's the point.

I don't think he wanted to be traded here, Eve. However, the guy is a high character dude and I would think he would give it his all here, just like he did when he was traded from SF [who was a SB team] to KC [who sucked at the time] several years ago.

He might be a high character dude. But he is not gonna stick around.

I think we are gonna have to find our QB through the draft.

And develop him correctly.

AKA ...not throw them under the bus, like we did to Kizer.

We didn't help Kizer, putting him in when he wasn't ready, but he couldn't hit the BROAD SIDE of a bus if he were standing at the curb. smile

We will need to bring in a vet to work with any rookie and to bring experience into QB room. However, a play for Cousins may change who we take. No way we take Rosen if we have Cousins on the roster. Maybe, however, Allen/Mayfield/Rudolph/White/Lauletta. If we did go with Cousins and didn't use the 1 for a QB maybe we take JTs replacement? That said, are Orlando Brown or Conner Williams worth a #1?

Very interesting.

Um, he could and did when he had confidence. Which rarely happened. Most of the time he was flustered because opposing D was too tough, either pass rush or coverage. He wasn't prepared for that. Or many other things.

Not convinced of this either due to Bradford's injury history. But, not Chase Daniels! Hue knows McCarron better than anybody, but even he makes me nervous.

Disappointed. Smith was my fave to come in..

Now I guess I can hope for Nick Foles. I'm sure Foles would appreciate the opportunity to come to Cleveland.

Is this supposed to be funny?

Going from being starter in the Superbowl....to starting in Cleveland.

Come on man.

I know he is a backup. But even Dilfer was like oh hell no after a short period of time.

They didn't peruse him enough we had the most to offer them another bungle by a Browns FO. Hue really wanted him too.

Kirk Cousins is almost certainly going to be in Cleveland. Nobody else really stands a chance. Nobody else has the money. In terms of projected cap, Washington was one of the few actual suitors.

In the Cousins sweepstakes, it's down to Cleveland, the Jets and the Bills.

The Bills would have to use all their cap space on Cousins. The Jets have the same problem as the Vikings - a lot of young talent in need of re-signing. Half the Jets defense is coming off smaller contracts, and both centres, and 2019 isn't much better when some of their best players (Including all their receivers - Kearse, Enunwa, Anderson and Smith) all come off contract. He can sign with them, but they only have that money because it's needed to sign the young talent they do have.

The Browns only have Crowell and Johnson to worry about for the next few years, combined with a possible Joe Thomas retirement (Thomas has said his best case scenario is getting Cousins, so he'd absolutely play on if Cousins signed).

At the same time, the Browns have the most cap space (As soon as the 49ers sign/tag Jimmy G) and the most assets to build around the QB. That offers both youth, talent to build around the quarterback, and sustainability for years without having to worry about who is departing in free agency.

Another dark horse contender could be the Vikings, but they have the same problem as the Jets in terms of needing their space to re-sign their young talent - and it's only amplified - but they've got a much better track record with building. Cousins could be more willing to sign on, if they want him, knowing the Vikings are amongst the best team builders in the league.

The Browns offer a poor record, but the team with a great record just can't afford to sign Cousins and retain all the players who make them great. The difference between them and the Browns, is the Browns actually have the assets to set about a rebuild. The others teams have to draft at a high level with normal assets to avoid a rebuild.

The Smith trade, and rumoured 4/5 year deal, confirms that Kirk Cousins is going to hit free agency, and the Browns have the best chance to attract his attention.

There is rumors that Washington will slap the transition tag on Cousins, but that's ultimately meaningless. They can't afford to sign both Cousins and Smith. It's not like they're going to match.

Cousins was quoted as saying he would take less money to go to a winner. Money could talk, or we would need to convince him we're a winner, but it doesn't sound like Cousins is thinking Cleveland.

I don't see why the Eagles would trade Foles with Carson Wentz coming off a major injury.

This is not true. Unless we are going to pay him much more than any other team, then Kirk Cousins can go sign with other teams for the same money he would get with the Browns.

Talk like this only sets people up for disappointment and anger.

The word on the street is that the Broncos are the favorites to sign Kirk Cousins.
