Whatever gets you to stop mentioning Baker Mayfield in every post is what I'm in favor of.

LOL. I love being the Mayfield guy. Many mentions of Rosen, Darnold, or Allen throughout posts but no one ever knocks them. Hopefully come september we're all talking Mayfield.

So you want to repeat drafting the fourth QB in the draft in the late second round like we did last year? Didn't you learn anything?

The arrest video was enough to keep him from going #1but I really hated the eushy washy excuses last week of I can practice all week at the senior bowl but can't play because my mom is sick.

I'm home he has slid back down a bit on my board because of that immaturity.

I use it as part of my evaluation of his scrambling ability. Weak, very weak.

So he's immature because he chose not to play while his mom was in the hospital?

People stop at nothing to bash the guy. He's a dbag, I get it, but he's going to be very very good...

If he is all concerned about his mom, he could have skipped the senior bowl. No one would have blamed him.

Being there for practice all week and saying sorry can't make the game my mom is sick was just using his mom's illness to avoid playing in a game that could hurt his draft stock.

I no longer cared if he played or not, I got that glimpse of who he is and I didn't like it. Dorsey may feel different but the 6ft qb that was drunk and ran from the cops didn't do anything this week to make me think he has matured.

Sign and trades never happen in the NFL. They would have to tag him, let us negotiate a contract with him before the trade, and then trade him to us.

All of that could be set up .. Washington tags him.. Cousins signs the tag.. Trade happens and Browns/Cousins renegotiate a contract.. it would be sneaky.. but after what Belichek pulled with trading Garrapolo around us.. why not ?

We would have to be able to negotiate the contract before the trade.

That is how it would all work.

We'd make the call to Washington and say we are willing to trade and ask for permission to talk to his agent. It wouldn't take much of an offer because all the other teams are waiting for him to be cut.

We'd have to put a substantial offer on the table for Cousins, probably $30 mil plus a year. If he agrees with that, then Washington puts the tag on him to make the trade legitimate and keep the league happy.

Washington gets a pick for a player they were going to let walk and we use a pick to get to negotiate with him before other teams have a chance to.

If it's not a big offer, his agent is going to tell him to wait to see what he can get in FA.

Washington would have to have the cap space available for any tag in order to use it. Giving that huge extension to Smith is going to chew up a ton of cap space.

This is something I didn't think of. In the end I don't think it's realistic at all. Like basically a 0% chance of happening.

Smith isn't there yet... not on roster until after the 4th .. and I believe there is a time frame in which they would need to be under the cap, by the time that time is up, Cousins would be gone.

Alex Smith isn't on their cap until the trade is completed, they just make the trade to the Browns happen first.

I have to say that I agree. It's too bad really. It makes so much sense from the Browns' perspective-- sign Cousins, use all the draft ammunition to put a sweet young team around him, and the future would actually look pretty bright.

Unfortunately you have to be able to sell that to a player who is going to have many good options-- teams that have already proven they can win, with more stability in the front office and coaching staff, perhaps a more desirable location, and all that. He'll have some very lucrative contract offers.. I'm just not sure how much higher the Browns can reasonably go?

Not sure. Reading the comments, it would have to be a sign and trade but had to do so without direct conversation with Cousins to avoid tampering.

Technicality I guess they just did the same thing with Alex Smith.

Teams and agents talk all the time, even when they're not supposed to. The NFL rules on tampering are more like recommendations, as they aren't enforced except when teams are blatant about it.

How can you **sign/trade** a player you cant talk too to sign?

Here where I call bull on this report -

They cant trade cousins cause the trade deadline is over for the league year. (if I am not mistake, the smith trade is not official yet, they just agreed)

They cannot sign cousins as he is not a FA until the league year starts in March.

Contacting Cousins about signing him right now - would be tampering, as he is under contract with the redskins.

This is weird.

I'd expect the NFL to be pissed about this one. With ratings the way they are, they want free agency to be an offseason draw card. If teams are negotiating contracts during Superbowl week, the money makers aren't going to be pleased that the biggest free agent draw card isn't going to be drawing news in the downtime of the offseason.

Washington can tag Cousins and give Denver permission to negotiate with him in return for a trade.

Of course to do that, Denver would need $35 mil in cap space which I can't see them making and having a halfway decent team afterward.

I think it's BS as well.

I guess we'll see.

I was on the Cousins bandwagon. I didn't think we'd get him, but I was hopeful. Oh well.

I'm not exactly sure.

Maybe they can tell Washington what terms they want and then in turn the Redskins negotiate with Cousins. Denver would not actually be talking to Cousins. But the deal would be contingent on Washington trading Cousins.

But I agree I don't like it and sounds like a form of tampering.

After thinking about it, Denver could still be in play with a transition tag. Instead of about $35 mil, the price would be $29 mil, but even that would be hard for Denver without gutting the team.

Talib was offered to the chiefs for Smith, maybe they will offer him to the Redskins who just traded Fuller.

Denver can absolutely talk to Cousins with permission from the Redskins. The Redskins would be happy to give any team permission if they can wind up with an extra pick in the deal.

With the Washington Redskins trading for Alex Smith, the Kirk Cousins Era in Washington is over. Despite NFL free agency not set to start for several weeks, Colin Cowherd claims that the Denver Broncos and quarterback Kirk Cousins are close to a deal.

"This is singularly sourced from somebody I trust … It’s necessarily breaking," Cowherd said on The Herd with Colin Cowherd today. "It’s broken, not breaking. Kirk Cousins very likely signs with Denver. And they are very close to a deal. It’s fractured news, it’s not breaking news because I don’t have it confirmed. Is that fair to do? I’m telling everyone right now, I’m working big J journalism here. So if you hear it, I don’t want any credit if I’m right I’m not one of these beat reporters who gets all in a tizzy. I don’t want the blame if I’m wrong. Somebody else I trust said 'Kirk Cousins and Denver, they are working on a deal.'"

The ratings are extreme during Superbowl week. The NFL's core dates are spaced across the year to create interest periodically. Big news, like Cousins to Denver, is far more valuable a few weeks from now than it is this week.

A big name, like Cowherd, leaking that he's already hearing about a deal between Denver and Cousins, is going to raise tampering eyebrows.

That's if the key words are correct, if the rumour is correct at all. But it didn't say trade, it said signing. The NFL will want to crush it, if true. Not because they love fair and balanced negotiations, but because free agency creates offseason interest in the product, which creates website hits and viewership for NFL Network, etc.

It sounds like tampering, if true, and Cowherd isn't the most unreliable name.

Odds released for Kirk Cousins' destination
Kirk Cousins is officially set to hit the open market and Vegas has the suitors lining up.

Kirk Cousins all but officially became a free man on Tuesday night when the Washington Redskins agreed to a deal with the Kansas City Chiefs to trade for Alex Smith, leaving the signal-caller open to become a free agent.

Oddsmakers from Vegas have been quick to chime on on where he will end up playing next.

Here is a look at the current numbers set by Bovada and BetDSI:

Odds from Bovada:
Jets: 8/5

Broncos: 7/4

Cardinals: 4/1

Browns: 5/1

Bills: 9/1

Giants 14/1

Jags 14/1

Dolphins 20/1

Odds from BetDSI:
Cleveland Browns +175

New York Jets +230

Denver Broncos +300

Buffalo Bills +450

Miami Dolphins +750

Minnesota Vikings +800

Arizona Cardinals +1000

Jacksonville Jaguars +1500

Tampa Bay Buccaneers +1500

Cousins is expected to receive a multi-year deal that will likely surpass the most recent quarterback contract extension signed by Matthew Stafford of the Detroit Lions, which came in at five-years, $135 million with $92 million of that guaranteed.

I'd say we need to move from the A Smith and Cousins talk.

time to look else where. I still say Sam Bradford. for some reason he just keeps popping up in my head.

they will be getting teddy back and Case has proven his worth.

no way they keep 3 starting QB's

just a thought

All three should be available unless they tag one of them.

Min could also go after Cousins.

I think Cousins is a safer pick than all three of them.
