1. This guy is really good. I would have preferred him over John Dorsey if not for his personal demons. 2. He said this about Kirk Cousins (he used to be Washington's GM): “He’s a good player,” McCloughan told Mike Pritchard and Cecil Lammey. “Is he special? I don’t see special. But also, we were still building a roster around him to make him special. Jay Gruden does a great job play-calling. [Former Redskins offensive coordinator-turned-Los Angeles Rams Coach] Sean McVay did a great job play-calling to put him in positions to be successful. He’s talented. Talent is good at quarterback in the NFL. He’s won games. I know his record overall is not over .500. I know he has not won a playoff game. But he’s competitive. He works his tail off. He’s so methodical. Every day he has planned out. He’s always in the building, he’s always watching tape, he’s always talking to coaches, he was talking to me. From the standpoint of the tangibles, they’re excellent. You just need to have some talent around him because you don’t want him to be throwing the ball 35 to 40 times to win the game. I really like this hire!
This FO lineup has a lot of big names. My only concern, and at this point it is very minor, is there are a lot of people at the table.
I know Scot is only a consultant but that's now two former GMs and two potential future GMs working in Berea. I'm guessing a lot of strong opinions will be had.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

so, it looks like we'll have Mayfield I don't think we should definitively say that. What we can say is that we know what someone inside the organization actually thinks, which is rare this time of year. My guess is that McCloughan has not even met any of the QBs in person yet.

More smart people is almost always better if they are willing to humble themselves. Many more things can be accomplished when qualified people are doing their jobs. The Dodgers front office is the perfect example of this, they had at least six former GMs working with the team at one time. They are able to come up with new ideas and accomplish many more things than normal teams during the off-season.

He's certainly a well-qualified talent evaluator.
It was Ron Wolf that gave McCloughan his first job as a scout in the NFL.

The context of the question was which QB would he take in the draft..... The radio host listed off a few of the notable names (Josh Allen, Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Luke Falk), and then asked McCloughan directly, “You gotta pick one quarterback to lead your franchise, Scott, who’s it gonna be?”
Without missing a beat, McCloughan said Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield. McCloughan had this to say about Mayfield.

Also, FWIW.... “Mayfield’s skills and on-field mentality left multiple evaluators believing Cleveland is heading into a debate between two players with the No. 1 pick in the draft: Mayfield and USC’s Sam Darnold,” Robinson wrote.
“A lot of what he is as a player fits with the mentality of [Cleveland Brown’s general manager] John Dorsey,” Robinson added, per a source. “Just his mental makeup as a player, John believes in building around those kinds of guys. I think he’s a strong candidate [for the top pick] after this week.”

This guy is a good talent evaluator. I am not putting much stock into his comments on Cousins or Mayfield. He's one guy and not the main guy. He is a consultant.
I like having all these established football guys in the building. We are certainly housing an impressive staff.
My only concern w/the guy is the accusations that he had an alcohol problem and even showed up drunk in the locker room after games.
It might be best to pick his brain and have him do reports rather than being in the room.

It's clear Scot likes Mayfield and Dorsey has spoken glowingly about him as well. I wonder if Dorsey hiring Scot is a way to add another voice in the room in favor of drafting Mayfield.

When did Rosen run from the cops? Rosen's a known party-boy. He's just smarter at it than was Mayfield and he has a lot more $$$ to stay "smart" about it. You can choose to believe me or not. Did you want the Browns to draft Dak? One drunken (alleged) run-in with the cops and he dropped to the 4th. Mayfield had one run-in with the cops and he's still talked about as a slam-dunk first rounder. A young 20 year old ish got in trouble with the cops while intoxicated...once. Oh my word...he probably hates puppies too. He's not a monster. It's not like he deferred after winning the coin toss in OT or declined a personal foul penalty with the opponent in filed goal range.

The group assembled by Dorsey is impressive.
However, at this time I would not draw any conclusions.
This is a process. All within know that.
What you can take to the bank is this group will leave no stone unturned. They will look at all the prospects involved under the same microscope.
We should be confident in their decision.

Good move. Scott joined the Washington staff and helped put the pieces together for an underrated defense and one of the better OL in the league when healthy. Washington being Washington got rid of him in a rather ugly fashion (as per their mo they dragged his name through the mud on his way out).

Baker is just a victim of being forgetful. Getting a bit tipsy he forgot he was in Arkansas and not in Norman. Had he been in Norman the cops would have jogged along side him to make sure he didn’t fall.

I don't think there should be much credence paid to an interview made back when the 49s and Browns were both still winless. The world has changed a lot since then. I bet the Browns do love the fact that the Mayfield quote can throw more shade toward who they're drafting. The more people have to guess about our two top picks, the more valuable they become in a bidding war, if we do happen to move down. That said, he clearly has Mayfield near the top of the chart.
My concern is as stated by others... I don't know how many mouths we want at the dinner table in this front office.
