Trump issues orders for a grand military parade in Washington DC

President Trump has issued marching orders to the military: throw me a big, beautiful parade.
The Pentagon and White House officials are in discussions to plan a grand military parade this year with soldiers marching, and tanks rolling, through the streets of the nation’s capital to highlight the strength of the nation’s armed forces, the Washington Post reported Tuesday.
The commander-in-chief has been pushing for an American military parade after being wowed at France’s Bastille Day celebration last summer in Paris with French President Emmanuel Macron.
Trump admitted being dazzled by an array of crisply-dressed French troops marching down Avenue des Champs-Elysees accompanied by tanks and other armored vehicles with F-16 fighter jets providing air power above and blowing streaks of blue, white and red smoke to represent the French flag.
Fulfilling the president’s wish became more of a priority when Trump personally discussed the matter during a Jan. 18 meeting with top generals at the Pentagon.
The attendees, who included Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Joe Dunford, took Trump’s wish as an order, officials told the Washington Post.
“The president wants to do something that highlights the service and sacrifice of the military and have a unifying moment for the country,” one official said.
No date has been set for the celebration.
The Pentagon reportedly prefers Veterans Day on Nov. 11 — which would coincide with the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.
You are right comrade 40! Because we don't have Veterans Day or Memorial Day, tons of monuments, yellow ribbons, blue stars, VFWs in every town... You are right we never think of our soldiers! How delightfully insightful from someone other than the commander-in-chief who also did not serve.
funny that the draft dodger wants a military parade, and the typical conservatives who support draft dodging are once again ridiculously far up Trumps ass on this.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
It also bothers me that according to the story it is for no other reason than the President wants his country to show it's adoration of him ....except they don't . Smacks of some tinpot nationalistic despot . I keep trying to look on the bright side and think that he is just another in a long line of leaders that have made choices I don't particularly care for but then crap like this pops off and I am back to wondering if the man truely is addled .
So, I'm confused. We're constantly being told by some on here how awesome the European countries are and how great their gov't. systems are, and how awesome their trains are and how we should be more like the Europeans.
So, we try to be like the French and have a parade, and it's a bad thing?
(I do agree this is an odd thing. But, I had to say what I said if for no other reason than to poke certain posters)

OCD with the backhand ! Lol
I also laughed at the congresswoman who lost her legs in Iraq calling him Cadet bone spur when he hinted that what not applauding him at the SOTU was akin to treason. I have ALWAYS had a problem with those who didn't serve brining into question the loyalty of those who did.
Sounds like a very patriotic way to appreciate all our Military personnel and show the American people what their tax dollars buy.
France does this and it is impressive.
There will be patriotic songs and planes trailing red, white and blue smoke. Flags everywhere.
You must hate it.
A better use of those funds and time would be to house and feed all homeless veterans, rather than wasting it on an elaborate parade whose sole purpose is to get Veruca Salt to stop whining.
Not only does the optics bring us down to the NK level, in these times when spending needlessly should be considered gross incompetence, this sounds like a ridiculous waste of money to me. Like that little Christmas Elf, put this idea back on the shelf.

I agree. I don't like the optics of it at all nor do I like the many millions it would cost to pull it off.
If I could make an analogy, we have the strongest military in the world by a fairly wide margin... doing a parade like this would be like doing an elaborate TD celebration when you have a 30 point lead.

Yea, jeez, what a bad look. Whatever is he thinking!
I remember. He loves to flex muscles he doesn't have. He found ways to get multiple deferments to avoid serving in the military and now he wants to act like he's supportive. If he was so supportive, why didn't he serve?
I can tell you exactly why....... #richlivesmatter
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
He wants to emulate his hero, Vladimir Fidel Benito Kim Putin
What an arse. That's pretty bad, what's worse is the folks that fall for his garbage.
All you have to do is say something is "to honor the troops" and some will just jump for joy without ever thinking about it and paint anybody who is opposed to it as unamerican and disrespectful of the military.. .
Pretty much all of us want to recognize the troops for what they do.. that doesn't make every idea a good idea... and this is a bad idea.
If he wants to honor the troops give em a three day weekend pass to be used when duty allows . Yeah, let's make them spend weeks preparing equipment , shinning parade boots and brass only to then have them March for miles all so Trump can " honor " the troops .
Man , had you ever served you would know just how hated parades really are . Had he ever served he would know that using the military to stroke your ego is a bad thing . Honor the troops my ass !
I love how the libs make such a big deal about TRUMP never serving in the military.....but I never heard of their pres. breaking down any recruitment doors and they treat him like the most patriotic president that ever lived LMAO
