Yeah, drafting a great running back would be stupid. No one is really saying that. Our need at QB trumps the need at RB. We need a QB in the worst way. And have needed one for a long time. I cannot imagine that of all the QBs coming out, there is not one the team wants more than the others. Even a little bit. I find it hard to believe it is a dead nuts 3 or 4 way tie at the top of the heap. When you need a QB, you take your guy at #1. You do not wait and take an "acceptable" QB at #4. I know you did not say that, Spirit, but someone did. That reeks of settling for what is left. If we wait until #4 to take what QB others left for us, and one of the ones taken before #4 turns into a franchise, pro bowler while our leftover consolation prize does not, then that is one more stupid team move to add to the pile. Worse than taking your guy at one and having someone you passed on do much better. At least then you made your choice and did not let other teams decide for you. I think, more than a particular position or individual player, what we really need is an identity on both sides of the ball. I'd like to see an offense that can take what it wants rather than tries to do what it thinks the defense is giving it. An offense that knows it's strengths and uses them. I'd like to see a defense that challenges opponents rather than playing safeties 40 yards deep so as not to get beat. There are things I like about all the QBs, but there are things I dislike about them as well. And, I don't really see that tone setter at the position. The only one that I really see having something similar to that is Mayfield, and his "tone" is more "We're going streaking," than something I'd want us taking up. I think Fitzpatrick can be the tone setter on D. I haven't figured out who could be that guy on O. I'm coming around on Cousins as my QB choice.

Yes, Minkah is whom I'd want to snag with one of the top picks. Exactly what we need.
Cousins is my favorite free agent QB if we're to neglect going QB in the draft. I think Joe Thomas announces he's returning the minute after his agent would tell him that kirk inked up here.
Purple made a comment awhile ago in the AJ thread in the nature of having the salary cap to pay. I'm also more and more opening up to being okay to drop a blockbuster on Kirk and solidify the position, even if I don't feel he's elite status.

Think about this and our even RECENT past history. If we trade out of #1. Or take Barkley at #1. We will be the TALK of the Draft from the get go. ALL slamming negativity. Man, Dorsey WILL NOT LET THAT HAPPEN. He CAN'T. This ain't a Bortles, Ponder, Gabbert, Manuel type Draft. I am 300% CONFIDENT that these guys are pondering TWO QB'S for the #1 pick. Darnold Rosen

I have no problem taking a QB @ #1 if one is there they are confident about. I just think we should seriously consider trading up to #2 to take a RB to g with him. Recreate what happened in Dallas. Zeke and Dak had Dallas humming along pretty well. That's what a great line and a top back can do. His only weakness is a two cent head. Got himself in trouble. There is ZERO indication that Barkely gets in trouble. Everyone says his work ethic is impeccable. Be a nice little present for our new rookie QB whoever that may end up being. We have three 2nd round picks. Parting with one to move up two spots isn't horrible. If it costs us a third rounder next year, in addition, I could live with that. We NEED to run the ball and he is by far the best RB in the draft. I wanted us to draft one fairly high last year as it was a RB heavy draft but we didn't. He looks the part, the scouts seem to think he's one of the best players in the draft and it's a position of great need. Just my opinion. But man I'd love to see them show some balls and not only get us a QB but the best RB in the draft as well AND still, have two 2nd rounders and a high 3rd.

If it was Drew Brees of even two years ago I'd jump at it. But he isn't the same QB any longer. I was watching a replay of a game from last year and his arm strength has eroded. I'm not saying he can't play, but he'd be less than 100%. I wouldn't do more than a 1 or 2 year deal and it wouldn't be for top top dollar. I would rather have Cousins than Brees as it stands right now.

Sorry was a little late on this as I had to clean the drool...lol
Yes, he is my dream Bridge QB and I say Bridge cause I'm looking at a 2 year 80 million (60 million guaranteed) We still draft a Franchise QB prospect and to continue the perfect QB to emulate Brees, Is of course Mayfield. Brees also has been a QB that has taken the time to TEACH young players so he would be very valuable in our move to excellence.
Again, I never got my Sophia Loren and Ann Margeret dreams come true as a teenager...so I won't hold my breath

Tyrod Taylor doesn't throw a nice deep ball but he isn't bad. He also doesn't turn it over a lot which would be a welcome change.

I get that, but this thread is about which qb you want starting. Pick your guy and why. Ok. I'm trying to wrap my head around this one. Peter King's MMQB is speculation of who goes where in both FA and Draft. Cousins to Denver. Mason Rudolph to Jax. Hmmmmm. Mccarron to Zona. Makes sense. Starter. Sam & Sam to Cleveland. Bradford and Darnold. Interesting. I need to think about this one. 2 year deal? Hold the fort for Darnold. Hmmmmm.

Sam can’t stay on the field ... he’s a TERRIBLE BRIDGE qb for that reason alone ... it would basically mean Kizer is our bridge qb ...

Sam would be behind the best offensive line he's had .. I could be wrong, but I think he's been injured in practice without being touched.. not sure if it was this last time or previously ...

I still think McGown is a solid choice. Sure, he's a few big hits away from the DL, but as mentor for a rookie and presence in the QB room, he's solid gold.
McGown til he's hurt, Kizer til the rookie is ready, then the new era begins.

Who is McGown?
I'm fine with any of:
Brees (except there is no chance he leaves New Orleans) Cousins Keenum Bridgewater (if healthy) McCarron (if we cannot land one of the above)
There is a huge drop off from here, if not above here.

Bridgewater may be a crap shoot for injuries, past, present, and future. I do not think QB this year is "nab one and done." Vet AND best. That list is kind of scary.

McCown, ok? I'm pretty sure you've heard of a typo before. Here's a post of yours from 2/15 in the AJ McCarron Thread; "I'm not a huge McCarron thread, and I don't get where he'd be a veteran presence. Sure, he's been in the NFL for a while now, but he's played less than a handful of games." You're not a huge McCarron thread? I suppose you meant fan. You can do that with anybody on the board, a quick check of their posting history will find a typo. They happen.

Not sure where to put this ...
Kirk Cousins - QB - Redskins
ESPN's Rich Cimini reports the Jets are "willing to pay whatever it takes" to land Kirk Cousins. MMQB's Peter King "guesses" Cousins will end up in Denver, but the Jets are certainly going to make a strong run at him. Working against the Jets is Cousins' reported desire to play for a team "with a good defense" where "he can win," but New York can point to their surprising success last year as evidence they are headed in the right direction. The Jets are projected to have over $70 million in cap space and can easily create more.

At that time of my life I could hold my breath for 5 minutes...well worth it. She's from Italy she probably ate a lot of garlic.
Also a method for those European women were to protect themselves from aggressive men to purposely have bad breath. It might have been she had no desire for Brando's advancements...
btw why the heck are you trying to ruin a long time dream of mine...my goodness is nothing sacred. lol

Interesting. They are? I read an article today, somewhere, that he'd be able to beat that (in court) with no problems. The franchise tag, and even ........can't remember the other "tag" name. Something to do with the rule - along the lines of "tag means the team is doing all they can to develop/design a long term contract. If they tag him again, after reports of trading for Smith (which isn't done).....they obviously don't desire a long term contract with Cousins. Article also mentioned they may franchise him and then attempt to trade him. And that, also, goes against the spirit of the rule. Will be interesting to see how it all unfolds I guess. (I'll try to find the article)

Thanks. I don't know how a link can change, but yeah, that was the article I was talking about.
Kirk Cousins will reportedly file a grievance with the players' union against the Washington Redskins if they designate him as their franchise-tag player, according to the Washington Post's Kimberley A. Martin.
Teams will be able to designate franchise and transition tags beginning on Tuesday and will have until March 6 to make those decisions.
If the Redskins sign Cousins to the franchise tag for the third year in a row, he will be unable to become an unrestricted free agent when the new league year begins March 14.
According to Martin, "Cousins could argue that the organization is violating the terms of the collective bargaining agreement because the team has no intention of engaging in good-faith negotiations on a long-term deal, or having him play under the franchise tag amount of $34.5 million guaranteed in 2018." Cousins' contention would be backed by the team's recent agreement to trade a 2018 third-round pick and cornerback Kendall Fuller to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for quarterback Alex Smith, per the Kansas City Star's Terez A. Paylor.
Once the deal is made official, the Redskins are expected to sign Smith to a four-year, $94 million extension that includes $71 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
For Washington, tagging Cousins would be a move motivated by self-interest. Essentially, doing so would allow the team to pursue a trade in order to extract value for Cousins so he can't bolt at no cost in free agency.
However, the move would also be accompanied by tremendous risk.
First and foremost, there's no guarantee a trade partner would be willing to pay Cousins $34.5 million in 2018. On top of that, the Redskins would be sacrificing $34.5 million against the salary cap in order to pursue a trade—a move that would seriously limit their spending power on the open market.

That just seems crazy. What if he signs the tender and there are no trade partners. Do they eat the salary? Can they cut him? What are the ramifications besides arbitration?

I do not know. My very uneducated guess in this situation is it's a big gamble for the redskins.
Now, the trade with/for Smith may end up not happening I guess.
The gamble is some team being willing to trade for Cousins if he's under the franchise tag for some $34 million for 1 year, as well as giving up a first round pick. For 1 year.
I will gladly admit I am not schooled nor educated in all of the franchise tag, blah blah blah stuff.

Wow. I hadn't heard about the Smith trade possibly not happening either. Would seem to put them in a dicey situation.
