Maybe a "trying to improve the culture" type trade? Reid decided to bench Peters at one point last year. I believe the final straw may have been when Peters chucked the penalty flag in the stands.

I remember Brian Baldinger mentioning it on BaldyBreakdowns.

Here's the link and I believe Peters was benched the next game...

Some reports of Browns being in on Marcus Peters. Not true. They did not explore this (even with John Dorsey ties). He's going to Rams

I know we all hate Jason La Canfora, but he seems to have a pretty good source with the Browns. He was first on both Eliot Wolf and Todd Haley and now this.

I think Peppers will look a lot better with a true FS, another year under his belt, and a top-tier CB

It'd be a nice signing in the fact we could move Taylor back inside, where he earned his extension. Even if Haden had an average year in Pittsburgh, it would have been nice having Haden, McCourty on the outside, Taylor inside.

At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

Taylor needs another job. I have seen punters tackle better than Taylor.

Maybe because of contracts not sure but trades straight up (Not draft) don't happen to much in football.

Minkah would be a really welcome addition. No Taylor, please! I would spend some stuff to get back into top half of round one. mainly want solid talent. Some fine players; cannot wait to see them at the combine.

Punters tackle more often. He needs to purchase a PSL for watching so many plays up close. Loss leader. No corner support.

Could we get anything in a trade for him? Maybe Trent Richardson . . . ? nanner

With the Rams acquiring Peters, a two-time Pro Bowl selection who has 19 interceptions in the past three seasons, they may be signaling that they are ready to move on from cornerback Trumaine Johnson, who was already going to be a hot commodity in free agency.

Enter the Browns, who have money to spend, a need at cornerback, and a familiarity with Johnson as current defensive coordinator Gregg Williams coached Johnson with the Rams from 2014 through 2016.

There is a lot to like about the 28-year-old Johnson. While not as proficient at interceptions as Peters, Johnson has picked off 10 passes over the past three years to go along with 41 pass breakups.

Johnson had his best season in 2015, when he intercepted seven passes, but his game has slipped a bit the past two seasons. That is always a concern, although a reunion with Williams could reinvigorate Johnson’s game.

The other concern is how much of a contract that Johnson will command in free agency after playing the past two seasons with the Rams under the franchise tag. According to spotrac.com, Johnson could be inline for a five-year deal worth around $68 million.

Of course, with more than $100 million in available cap space, that would be a drop in the bucket for general manager John Dorsey to spend.

Adding Johnson would certainly make the Browns secondary much better, especially if cornerback Jason McCourty can have another solid season and cornerback Briean Boddy-Calhoun continues to be one of the game’s best slot corners.

Signing Johnson in free agency and the selecting a safety in the 2018 NFL Draft to pair with Jabrill Peppers, and suddenly the Browns secondary is on par with the front seven and puts the pieces in place for a defense that can get fans excited.

The Browns were going to be in the running to sign Johnson because of his familiarity and success in Williams’ defensive scheme

J/C - I don’t know why folk automatically assume Peppers usurps the SS spot from Kindred. Kindred played well IMHO.

Kindred played well, but I thought Currie was our best SS when he played.
I would give serious consideration to putting Peppers at WOLB

Yeah, it would be no shock Peppers sees the bench IMO. He did more in the return game than anything and quite frankly, I didn't like the pick then and still don't. Hopefully he has a better second year and maybe we can find a position more suited for him. I really don't want to see him in a single, super deep safety spot again, ever.

I hope so. It would be really nice to see us securing Johnson. Would make out for a great signing IMO.

And do what with Collins and/or Kirksey?

(I'd trade probably trade one of our three starting linebackers.)

I'd probably put Kirksey in the Middle and Collins SOLB
Schobert moves to backup - I know he made the pro bowl but I saw more missed plays from him than made plays

We probably shouldn't be playing three linebackers as much as we did last year anyway. It's one of the reasons we got torched by tight ends and running backs last year.

It's actually a good problem to have, we have too many good linebackers. We just have to trust Gregg Williams to deploy them correctly.

What was the opinion of Kindred last year?

What was the opinion of Schobert prior to this season?

What was the opinion of Ogunjobi at the start of the season?

What was the opinion of Ogbah at the start of last season?

I think its too early to write Peppers off.

Peppers started making plays at the end of the season. I think Gregg had him playing closer to the line and it seemed he was settling into the position, reacting more quickly.

Personally, I think it is much too early to act like Peppers should beat anyone out.

I haven't given up on him. He was a rookie. However, I said it often before the draft that he was a guy w/out a true position that would translate to the NFL. He isn't good in coverage and his open field tackling is poor.

He gets way too much love and excuses on here. He was awful last year and I don't think it was a good pick.

I hope he improves and he can, but he has earned nothing yet.

Peppers was not my favorite draft pick ... just didn't know if he was rangy enough to play safety.

Early returns were not good, but let's hope with some experience, an offseason, and some better secondary-mates he improves

Good post. And I want to clarify before certain posters put words in my mouth. I am not saying Peppers will never be good or that he can't improve. Many guys make huge jumps when they switch positions and/or gain experience.

I haven't given up on him. I just didn't like him before the draft and he was awful last year. I just think a lot of people are making excuses for him and ignoring some of his flaws.

Yeah, I think that you and I both really disliked the pick of Peppers. I hope that he takes about 30 steps forward this year .... but man, the guy didn't even give us much in the return game, which was supposed to be a major selling point. Hopefully he turns it on this year, but I'm not counting on it.

This is a point that I have not seen mentioned, though maybe it has.

I didn't like the Peppers pick either, but I was just a hater.

I get he was a rookie and was played out of position. But we should have seen something in the return game. You're right, that was a selling point. And rookie or not, we should have seen something there.
