I'm thinking our Offer to Mccarron is going to be 3 Years MAX.
If Mccarron goes elsewhere for 5 Years as rumored, we'll turn to Bradford for 2 or 3 Years. As if the years matter. It's called more years, more guaranteed moolah's.

Well from I have been reading in the paper McCarron is expecting starter money and according to Spotrac the lowest paid starting QB not still under a rookie contract is Tyrod Taylor at over $15 mill a year and that seems an awful lot for a guy with 3 career starts. It is what it is. Be it him or someone else, unless we want Kizer back under center to mentor a newly drafted player, we are going to have to pay up. It's not like we don't have the money. We can structure things to take our hits this year and keep future years fairly clean. A bit off topic, but I hope Dorsey gets busy extending a few players. Duke and Josh are two who come to mind.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

I am not a T. Taylor fan, but I prefer him over AJ. Glad we didn't go the AJ route.

Yes! No more AJ.
For those who think that a 3rd was too much for Taylor, it just emphasizes the idiocy of a 2nd and a 3rd for McCarron. At least we know what Taylor is. McCarron was more of a hope what he is.

I think the key to AJ getting his payday is interest from multiple teams. Jinny G was able to show something - won every game once he got the start and looked good doing it. AJ has only shown the inability to challenge Dalton for the job.
We were always tagged as the team most interested in AJ. IMO we were the key to him getting serious money. we are out of the picture, so we'll see how that plays out for AJ.

I posted this in the TT thread .. but it is also relevant here ... https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/report-hue-jackson-ken-zampese-lobbied-for-aj-mccarron/Report: Hue Jackson, Ken Zampese lobbied for AJ McCarron Not everyone may have been on board with Friday's trades. by Josh Edwards The Cleveland Browns were the long-assumed leader for free agent quarterback AJ McCarron before they traded for Buffalo Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor. For the second time in less than a year, head coach Hue Jackson has been denied his former quarterback with the Cincinnati Bengals. According to ESPN's Dan Graziano, quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese and Jackson were both lobbying for the team to sign McCarron in free agency. "There’s been a widespread expectation that the Bengals' free-agent backup would join up with former Bengals coaches Hue Jackson and Ken Zampese in Cleveland. Jackson and Zampese had lobbied for McCarron, according to sources familiar with the Browns’ plans, but the front office obviously wasn’t sold and instead acquired Taylor. This doesn’t kill McCarron’s chances of signing somewhere with a chance to be a starter; it just means that place probably won’t be Cleveland," Graziano said. In a separate report from NFL Network's Aditi Kinkhabwala, it was stated that offensive coordinator Todd Haley was more sold on Taylor. It is certainly interesting that General Manager John Dorsey clearly took the recommendation of Assistant General Manager Eliot Wolf and Vice President of Player Personnel Alonzo Highsmith before trading for cornerback Damarious Randall because of their experience with him in Green Bay. At the same time, it does not sound like Zampese and Jackson's recommendations were taken as seriously. Winning will cure all but this report is not going to silence the belief that Dorsey wants to bring in his own head coach.

I can't imagine hue being here past this season. It's obvious Dorsey doesn't even take the guy very serious.

No. It's not obvious.
Just because Jackson was still interested in Mccarron, doesn't mean he wasn't ON BOARD with another option in Taylor.

That's what I call WEAK ASS Reporting half the truth. You can't handle the truth! Couldn't resist. You don't know it's half the truth. I am sure Hue had a voice, Dorsey listened, then decided it was a bad idea. Hue just needs to coach the team to wins, and he needs a lot of them. His leash is short. He doesn't have much say in things because there is a good chance he gets fired before the season ends. Why would Dprsey listen to him when Dorsey is itching to get rid of him? If it's not one of our coordinators, look to KC or GB for our next head coach.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

Dorsey probably listened to Hue for a solid ten seconds and went on and got Taylor. He's probably looked at Hue's recent QB antics and figured he'd do it his way.
I really don't think Hue is going to linger around after this season, so quite frankly it doesn't matter Hue didn't get "his" guy.

That's what I call WEAK ASS Reporting half the truth. You're right....it doesn't mean Hue wasn't ON BOARD with Taylor. But the report doesn't say that. It says Hue has been lobbying for AJ, which we all know is true but Haley wanted Taylor. Dorsey went with Taylor. Nothing in the report says Hue didn't want Taylor. I do think it is relevant to note that this is the second time Hue wanted AJ and didn't get him.

I'm not reading too much into this pickup and a second re-buff of Hue's AJ advances, HOWEVER, if Evil Sashi did this move and re-buffed Hue a second time...I think there would be a meltdown on this board. We were assumed to like AJ because Hue knew him. Enter Dorsey and things change. Why is it so hard for these so called reporters to see that?! You can stir the pot media but there's not much in that pot.
A different dynamic in Cleveland boys...

It's funny how some wish to make it sound like it's news that the HC doesn't have the control over personnel moves. Dorsey somehow gets credit when he makes personnel calls as having final say. When Sashi made the same decisions, people blamed Hue for them. Funny how that works.

I don't see the narrative you are trying to create about it being "news" that Hue doesn't have control over peronnel moves and absolving Sashi of certain decicion making.

He's trying to blame Sashi for listening to his head coach's opinion on Wentz without making the HC look stupid in the process. PitDawg works best on your ignore list. There is a never ending circular logic that listens to neither rhyme nor reason.

I don't understand the narrative of Dorsey getting someone other than the one guy Hue has reported liking is akin to a declaration of war on the HC.

No one is gonig to that extreme. This is why things get out of hand on this board sometimes. Because of wild hyperbole to opinions/statements.

That's pretty much where the issue is between may posters. Some feel the person in charge of player personnel is actually in charge of player personnel. Others seem to blame the HC for the decisions the head of player personnel makes.
