WTF? I like Shelton...he seems to be a force plugging up the middle.

They're saying flipping mid-round picks. I'm not seeing the value

I don't like it. The Browns created another hole needlessly. If he isn't in the plans next year let him walk, and take the comp pick that is likely the equivalent of what the Pats are giving you.

I know stuff like this is going to happen with regime change, but it just gets frustrating. Ugh.

He was a big reason the D stout against the run.

I'm not blaming this on Dorsey either. He wants rid of guys he didn't draft/doesn't like. Its what happens when regime change occurs, and this is a large part of why the Browns have and will continue to suck. We have an owner who has to fire someone every two years, and the process begins again. We never have a chance to build anything.

BB must have some kind of dirt on the NFL, his cupboards are never bare and stupid people give him good players for next to nothing.

Thats what I was thinking..lol. Bill feeds off the dumb every year. His run defense that got gashed in the SB last year just got a ton better for literally nothing..haha. Dude is a Jedi.

Yet, he as manager at the end of the season and has seen Shelton play.

This one I just don't get. I guess they must be high on Coley and Brantley. But Shelton is a great run-stopper. He was an asset

Trade compensation update: Browns get a mid-round 2019 pick from Patriots, and Patriots get DT Danny Shelton and a 2018 draft pick from Browns, per source.

Danny Shelton was ok but kind of a bust for a first rounder. So we free up a couple Mil in cap space after spending $32m yesterday. Maybe they are going to sign someone else in free agency who is better. I’m not going to cry over this. He wasn’t really a big impact player.

That sounds like Belichick has pictures on Dorsey.

Interesting. Not sure of the motivation behind this move.

So we gave them a pick this year and Shelton for a mid round pick next year that we probably could have gotten via comp pick??? No way to spin this....this was bad.

The browns are very deep at DT. Two young studs in ohunjobi and Brantley who both get up field and are disruptive penetrators. Meder and coley can plug vs the run.

Even so, couldn't we have done much better than a NE mid round pick AND having to throw in a pick of our own?

So we give away a former first round pick for next years mid rounder and we add a pick of our this year? Why not just keep our pick and cut the guy if you want rid of him?

The Browns did seem to have an access at DT. I would have hoped we would have received more back in return for Shelton.

Shelton is a below average DT who is only useful on 1st & 2nd down...the guy gets man-handled one-on-one. Meder is just as good a run-stopper and is remarkably cheaper.

Chalk it up as another 1st Rd, over-drafted bust. We basically gave him away and paid the Pats to take him.

Danny had to rub the coaching staff the wrong way.....the only way this deal makes since is if they just wanted him gone. Him and Hue/Williams had to butt heads for them to literally pay to get rid of him.

I dunno. I disagree. I think he's a good run stuffer

Dumb, Dumb, Dumb.... Improve the team yesterday and bring it back down the next. These are the same kinda decisions this team has made over the years that have made this team a laughing stock of the league. We do not keep our own home grown talent. Merry go round once again...

This is nuts. If they were gonna trade Shelton why not include him in the trade with Buffalo for Taylor as the Bills are hurting at DT and then maybe we would have only given up a later rnd pick instead of our 3rd rounder.

Good. So we got a 3rd rounder next year for this years 5th and an average player. Keep assets stocked while still deep at DT. Moving on...

Incredibly stupid trade on part of the Browns imho.

Horrible move.....one of the better run stuffers in the nfl.....we gave him away for what? A 3rd round pick? Are they nuts?

He had 33 tackles last year... this can’t be replaced, easily ? If he was drafted by us in the 4th round would you all feel better?

I think Shelton will be easily replaced. Roster space must be cleared for trade/ free agency acquisitions and draft picks. We have depth at the DT position particularly if indications were that he was looking to move on when his contract expired. The team may have already forecast other players as our starters and if Shelton was going to be a depth guy in the rotation why not move him for something? The inpatient side of me doesn't like the idea of waiting until 2019 to reap the benefit but I guess I have to.
